Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Spare Change

Unfortunately, some of the specials are very good and importent to the series (such as Kasumi's Togepi evolving into Togetic and the two of them parting so Togetic can protect the Mirage Island). It's a shame that we'll never see these in English..or maybe not, depending on what would be done to them if they were translated. :\

hmm so gary's gone? i used to read spoilers but stopped since they, well, spoil!

I actually wanted to talk about Gary...if u watch his earlier eps u'll notice he is a bit more sinister. I really didnt like how they made these rivals go down as friends...it seemed to abrupt. Plus, all thruout Johto he started getting nice. Not very "Gary was here, Ash is a loser" (member that ep?) anymore. What made gary gary was that he was pretty cut throat. They need some real bad bad guys. While gary isnt and never be evil, he should convey the message that he is...not a total good guy. He had an edge to him that showed he was serious. He was bent on keeping ahead of ash and reminding him of it.

They ended up with a more positive relationship...while that made for an interesting backstory ep, it didnt seem fulfilling...what do u guys think?

As for the Pika vs Vigoroth thing...if we were to be realistic...Pika would NUKE vigor hands down...regardless of the foriegnity of vogor...i know im not alone in just going for the throat in a battle with ur strongest dude...
I really hope they make the new teams seriously bad news for the crew. Rockets are for fun, but the others should be a little more serious...i mean if u really think about their goals, you have the makings of a seriously evil plot. Like how a mad man justifies his evil. So far the teams look like they are racking up points in the watch-out-for-me score.

And seviper over arbok...arbok. However, cacnea rules! Well, weezing was cool too...but seviper and wobbo got to go!

Oh, yeah, what was that stuff about Koga being a Rocket? Please share with the class!!!

PS. I WON!!! WOOOOOOOOOO!

Seviper, IMO, is funnier and better than Arbok. His "bloop bloop" is hilarious, especially when Jesse was trying to get it to do all those attacks.

yeah, but it just doesnt have that classical flare of the dearly departed arbok...

With all the drama developed behind the origins of the Rocket's starters, you'd think they would be a great deal more reluctant to give em up.

Seviper, I'm afraid will be like the Rockets themselves; he'll start out strong, tough, and sinister, but stop trying after a while and become purely comic relief or some kind of vehicle to advance the plot by murking up a situation.

Plus, seviper just doesnt have the look! Which is more bad guy-esque? Just look at em! I'd pick Arbok over Seviper for intimidation any day.

PS. :D :D :D

Bloop Bloop!

Seviper is mad at you because you are being mean to him.

Bloo Bloo Bloop!

He says that he is much better than Arbok in every way

Bloop Bloop Bloo Bloop Bloo!

He says that his poison tail attack is way better than Arbok's and that he once defeated a Sharpedo with it.

Bloo

He says "Boo ya!"

Wow! Compelling arguments! lol

Seriously though, folks, Seviper is better???

Oh, i was watching the ep this morning and i noticed Brock's hairstyle changed. Did anyone else notice that? His hair kinda points in the direction of his face. It isnt as spiky-gonna-stab-you any more. There's a slight tilt to it. Minor change, but interesting to me.

Any oppinions on the crew's new clothes? I think Ash's clothes are iffy---why would you give up your hard earned official hat?!!---but Brock's clothes are dead on! It makes him look dignified, older, wiser, AND rocky. If he doesnt spew rock-type signals, then you're headed down the wrong path. His new clothes definately convey his rock alliance, so kudos to his disigners.

I like Ash's outfit, but leave the hat behind. The old hat was his one trademark, and they should've never let him leave that behind.

Brock now looks a little fatter, but much older, although he doesn't have his old "Zen" moments anymore.

"As for the Pika vs Vigoroth thing...if we were to be realistic...Pika would NUKE vigor hands down...regardless of the foriegnity of vogor"

If it were like the game, yes. Pikachu would destroy all of the Hoenn leaders. But as you can see, such is not the case. The anime is among more real terms in the sense that no matter what, there is always someone out there who is stronger. Vigoroth is a Pokémon Satoshi and Pikachu have never seen before and had no idea on what types of attacks to go with. Using Thunderbolt and Quick Attack barely worked considering Norman's Vigoroth is really fast and managed to avoid the attacks. An example that training is the best method to beating a leader instead of just having Satoshi waltz in there and fight and win is the episode with Roxanne. I liked seeing how Pikachu had to train to learn Iron Tail to take care of its weakness to Rock types (I say weakness to Rock because most of the Rock types available are part Ground type).

Concerning Satoshi's hat, I wondered what the whole deal with the change of hats was about. I mean, he made a fuss about how hard he had to work to get it (and I mean by sending in tons of entry forms :p) when Mankey stole it back in the early Kanto series, yet he had no problem switching it for a different hat. Speaking of which, take notice at the Pokébal emblem on his hat, and Haruka's bandana. Now look at Satoshi's new badge case. The emblem should be the same Pokéball one, yet 4Kids changed it into a rectangle on the case for some reason. Odd, huh?

4Kids probably, once again like many times in the past, changed it because people might have thought the symbol meant something else.

I also liked how they are showing Pikachu learn Iron Tail. I think it may be the first time in the whole show that they have actually shown a human and their Pokemon training.

That would actually be the third time. :p The first was abit before the Kanto Pokémon League when Atoshi's Marowak left him, you see trainers actually training with their Pokémon. The second time was when Satoshi tries to get Cyndaquil's fire lit up in order to beat the girl with a Skarmory that seemed resistant to fire attacks.

yeah i really liked that real training stuff.

As for the vigor/Pika...in a storyteller's eyes i could take the battle as it was, but as a skeptic i wouldn't buy it. In other words: it makes a good story but if you were to sit down and think about it it just wouldnt make sense. Cuz if there was always someone stronger, those poor people in Hoenn facing their fifth gym would be insanely overwhelmed if they had to face a trainer of Norman's calibur so (reletively) soon...

Doesn't that stink? We can never just accept a story...we need a why behind everything...Kinda funny how that works out. So on two levels: i liked the battle (as a story reciever) but i didnt like the battle (as a realist).

On another note: Brock on Jenny Craig? What show have u been watching? He does definately look older, tho. I was just thinking, man he could be just about 20ish the way he looks now...

BTW Time passes in the show, but no one seems to acknowledge that they are older, notice that? After returning from Indigo, Ash (i believe) remarks that it has been a whole year since he was last in Pallet...that would mean everyones a year older...so is Ash approx. 15 by now? Misty 16, Brock...22ish?!

You are right PLX. There have been so many topics on how old the characters are, but to tell you the truth, no one knows. In the cartoon world, no one ages. If they were to have an age, I would predict Ash as 14, Misty as 15, and Brock as 18.

I don't know what you guys are talking about, but the characters look exactly the same to me. Maybe its because they are wearing new clothes that they appear to be older.

well heres my logic, feel free to give some debate for this. To be a trainer u gotsta be 10.

Ash is 10

He makes the "been a year" comment

Ash is 11

It took him a year to get to indigo, so lets assume it takes him a year to johto

Ash is 12

Hmm...how'd i get 15? well there.

Now, Misty is approx a year older than Ash; she makes a mental comment in the Eevee Evo ep about "having a thing for younger men."

Misty is 11

Ash's 1 year comment

Misty is 12

Johto rolls around

Misty's 13

Now, B. Rock (his rap name lol) has to be a good 3 years older than Ash AT LEAST! so....

Brock is 13

Ash/1 yr

Brock is 14

Johto

Brock is 15

Now for a challenge...Tracey anyone?

8. I dunno, he juse never really seemed to have a great level of maturity.

Also, you forgot about the year that they all spent in the Orange Islands. So, by Psycho Lugia's estimate, that would put Ash at about 13, Misty at about 14, and Brock at about 16. I disagree on Brock's age when he joined Ash tho. He seemed much too responsible to be 13. I'd place him at about 16 or 17 at the beginning, making him about 19 or 20 now.

Actually, none of the main characters are ever given an official age. Nintendo and 4Kids decided to just throw the "age requirement" to be 10 years old in order to handle Pokémon (which has been smashed in their faces several times in the anime and in the games, the twins in Ru/Sa look younger than 10). All we know is that the kids went through an aging process.

And actually, the Pikachu vs Vigaroth battle does make sense. Sure, it may look like those who just started in Hoenn are gonna have a bad time battling Norman, but no one ever said that once you beat one gym, you had to go directly to the next. It's not exactly like the game. The thing is, Satoshi never really put the time into actually training his Pokémon personally. His way of training them was putting them up into battle, and that was it. If he had done what he did with Cyndaquil to get its fire lit up and getting Pikachu to learn Iron Tail, he wouldn't have had such a rough time against Vigoroth.

well the one thing about the show that is extremely annoying to me is how everyone lets go of their pokemon

WHY do this??????

i wouldn't care if someone else needs it, i'd be like "NO THAT'S MINE!!!"

the mankey episode was brought up which ash cathes it as a primape............

a few episodes later, primape wins that P-1 tourney and that trainer told ash "how about you leave primeape with me.....???" ................... why??? the dude already has a hitmonchan, the greedy punk!!!!!

and ash lets butterfree go cuz butterfree wants to get freaky with a freak butterfree that's pink!!!! just catch the stupid thing....... the original trainer apparently didn't care about it since she let it go

do they really think that people would actually do that??????? how gullible do they think we are?????

they make the trainers too soft.........

arrrrgggg!!!!!!!!

well back to the age thing

ash was 10

+1 kanto
+1.5 orange
+1 johto
+.5 for movies and things not shown
+1 cartoon aging
=15=

misty = ash + 1 = 16

Brock i'd say 17 since he was a gym leader and had to care for his 432143298743298 younger siblings

+ 5

=22=

which kinda makes sense since he's been trying to get with every girl on earth!!!!!

arrrrrgggg giving away????????????/ ARRRGGG

lol

...I do believe you'd be a terrible trainer if Pokémon ever did exist. >_>

Satoshi didn't give Primeape to him as a gift. He left Primeape in his care as a sparring trainer. Same effect with Charizard. They still belong to Satoshi. But they're currently training under the care of someone else. They're only theirs if they put into a Pokéball that belongs to them.

Butterfree had to be let go of. If Satoshi didn't let Butterfree go on to have a family, he would have hated Satoshi forever. You make it sound like you would have said "No! You're mine and I'm not letting you fall in love with anyone! No one but I can have you!"

If you bring up Beedrill, I'd have to smack you considering Satoshi and gang have constantly ran into a horde of Beedrill. Squirtle's gang was ruined without their leader. Squirtle had to do what it had to do.

Try and keep them coming. The ONLY Pokémon Satoshi ever really gave away was Beedrill.

i'm guessing my sarcasm didn't reach you, but that's ok

ash did give that guy primeape........... the guy said that he'd keep him and make him a true p-1 champ, if he didn't, why after 4 years hasn't he been returned or mentioned??? there are numerous times that ash could use a fighting type

releasing and presents are the exact same to me.............

lapras, squirtle, (charizard doesn't count, he is just training, never released), buttrefree, larvitar (shoulda caught it) and togepi (his egg, his victory)......... all have been released.... just as they became useful and decent

also why is it that they pass up so many pokemon???????

is it just me or do they only capture those that literally beg to be caught????

AARRGG

LOL
