Spiritomb EX (weird idea)

My form is probably sloppy. It's been a while since I've made one of these.

Spiritomb-EX :: :psychic: 100 HP

Ability: Negative Feedback
Whenever you attach an energy from your hand to Spiritomb-EX, put 1 damage counter on 1 of your Pokemon. Your opponent puts 2 damage counters on one of their Pokemon.

:psychic::psychic::colorless: Vengeful Spirits
If any of your Pokemon were Knocked Out by damage from an opponent's attack during his or her last turn, you may search your Discard Pile for those Pokemon. This attack does damage equal to the total amount of HP of the Pokemon you find.

RC :colorless::colorless:
Weakness:
Resistance:

Yeah, I don't know.

negative feedback seems a little weak, 2 damage counters or 1 on your opponent's but not on yours could work. 120 feels a little too low for Spiritomb, maybe 150-160 because of its lack of damaging attacks? I love the idea of Vengeful Spirits, but maybe -1 [P] energy would work maybe a bit better? I don't know. The attack is very potent, but psychic is just so difficult to play. Maybe make it say a non-EX Pokemon for [P][P][C] and shuffle the card into your deck? I don't know. I love the idea, doing damage equal to HP is a concept I've always loved, but never been able to fit together without making something useless or broken. This Spiritomb does it quite nicely, and with a neat ability too. Also Spiritomb EX art would be amazing, so yeah, nice card :thumb:

The idea was centered around me thinking about prize trades with stuff like Terrakion - about how you can sometimes put your opponent in a situation where, if they KO something, they lose something valuable (i.e. Darkrai EX), but they HAVE to take the KO eventually or just outright lose. And I wondered if there was a way to make a card that forced the prize exchange favorably, and imagined how broken it would be if you could spam it.

PPC isn't spammable, and I could see bumping the HP up a little bit - maybe 140, to OHKO standard Stage 2s? Negative Feedback was actually supposed to be a detrimental ability but I gave it the damage-to-opponent for good measure. I like that the opponent has to choose where to put the damage... makes it kind of weak, but interesting.

I do dislike a 140 HP Basic with no weakness, but im willing to overlook that i spose xD But defiantely dont make it higher...

Interesting idea, i do think its a bit too cost enduced. Having to attach energy to Spiritomb and damage your own Pokemon wont be used int he way you are hoping. This would just turn him into a new Crobat G with Emboar or soon Feraligatr, where SSU decides most games. I'd remove the energy attach cost and just make it a Once during your turn, put 2 damage on 1 of your Pokemon, 2 damage on an opponents and can only use 1 per turn. This would make it combo well with Outragers, but still be playable.

As for the attack, i think it needs to be more specific. Consider knocking out a Stage 2 Pokemon. Rescue Energy/Scarf shows us the game understands knocking out a stack of Pokemon, so Spiritomb may hit for something like 300 damage for koing that Emboar i talked about earlier. Id make it say "choose 1 of those Pokemon and put damage counters equal to its HP". Then its less ambiguos and really supports his fellow exs.

I also hate that Pokemon have had less resistances lately. Spiritomb should have a Colorless resistance. It just should.

Just food for thought. An interesting card to be sure.

hmm, hadn't thought about the issue of finding a whole evolution line. I had intended it to be for situations involving darkrai (you KO two Terrakion at once... well, take 260) or kyurem, and other such Pokemon.

I can see the potential for 'misuse' of Negative Feedback, with Emboar and Blastoise/Feraligatr, but Crobat G put the damage where its owner wanted - Spiritomb lets the opponent choose. Not much of a helpful distinction when we're talking about the potential to play 4 energy, SSU, and play 4 more (doing 160 in total without attacking).

But let's face it, that would be an AWESOME deck.

In light of your suggestions I'm lowering its HP again, though. I'll think about the wording of the attack...

100 is a bit low though haha. I was just thinking 120 like Shaymin/Mew or maybe the magic 130. WHile i dont like things with insanely high HP and no weakness, the new exs do force at least a certain amount og HP anymore/
.

And yes, it would be a pretty awesome deck.

I really like it. I agree with Shino Bug Master that it should have Colorless resistance. I think its attack is balanced considering it takes 3 Energy in a format where Psychic Energy doesn't have many acceleration options.
