So I spend a week away from the internet to focus on playing Ruby, and a new forum gets added. Might as well participate. Here's something I wrote for Halloween (yeah, it's kinda late).

Stop Cursing Already!

Ash and Co. were once again wondering around in the middle of nowhere. Soon, they happened upon a carnival. “Hey!” Brock exclaimed. “Let’s go have a look!” Misty and Ash nodded in agreement.

So then they began to wander the carnival, looking at the rides, eyeing the food, and contemplating the games. Then, they found the haunted house. “Hey! Let’s go in there!” Misty said.

“I dunno,” Ash replied. “I never really liked these things.”

“Aw, come on! It’ll be fun, right Brock?”

“Actually, I was thinking about looking for a kissing booth.”

Misty sighed. She spent a few more minutes goading them on, until Ash consented. She then turned to see if Brock would also consent, only to find him missing, and no doubt looking for that kissing booth. She sighed, but then walked up to the entrance with Ash and Pikachu. They bought tickets, and then walked up to the entrance. Misty put Togepi into her backpack, and they walked inside.

They took their first steps through the place, the ground covered in fog. Ash noticed the fog machine hiding in the corner. They walked along, and a Ghastly appeared from nowhere and flew past their heads. “Ah! A ghost!” Misty shrieked.

“That’s not even a real Ghastly,” Ash sarcastically remarked. “You can see the wires.”

“You’re no fun,” Misty retorted.

They continued along, looking at witty gravestones, “blood”-splattered walls, and the occasional paper mache Ghost Pokemon that would spring out of nowhere. Then they walked by what seemed to be some sort of non-descript large rock. Then, a hand suddenly reached out and grabbed Ash’s ankle. Surprised, Ash looked down to see someone “trapped” under the rock. The person moaned, and then said, “Please... you have to help me...” Ash kicked his hand away, and continued on. “Please?”

“Maybe we should help him,” Misty quietly said.

“It’s just an act,” Ash replied.

“Or can you at least loan me some Tylenol?”

“Sounded like he was really in pain, though...” Misty said.

“A Band-Aid?”

“Trust me, it’s supposed to. It’s an act,” Ash again replied.

“Maybe some WD-40?” the guy asked again. Misty gave up arguing, and they walked off. “Hey! Don’t ignore me!” No reply. “That’s it! I curse you! Both of you! And your Pikachu! And your children! They’re cursed too! All of them! And... and...” They rounded a corner. “Hey! Get back here! I’m... not done... cur... sing... you...” The person collapsed.

Ash and Misty exited. They wondered around until they found Brock. He had a disappointed look on his face. “No kissing booth?” Misty asked. Brock shook his head. They then grabbed a bite to eat and went on their merry way.

They sat at the fire that night. Misty had a worried look on her face. “What’s wrong, Misty?” Ash asked.

“Oh, it’s just that haunted house. That guy really seemed like he needed help.”

“It was nothing. Now get some rest.” They went to their sleeping bags, but it was a while before Misty fell asleep, thinking the curse might cause her to wake up surrounded by bugs or something.

Morning came uneventfully. They got up, ate breakfast, packed their things, and were on their way. After a while, they found a carnival. “Hey!” Brock exclaimed. “Let’s go have a look!”

“Nah,” Ash said. “I had enough fun at the one we went to yesterday.”

“What are you talking about, Ash?” Brock asked. “We didn’t see any carnival yesterday.” Ash, Misty, and Pikachu were puzzled. “Come on. I want to see if there’s a kissing booth!”

Brock wandered off and left Ash and Misty to do whatever. “Misty?” Ash asked. “We did go to a carnival yesterday, didn’t we?”

“Yeah, I thought we did.”

“Well, at least I’m not crazy.”

“Pika pikachu.”

“You remember it, too, Pikachu?” Ash asked.

“Pika!” Pikachu nodded.

“So then why didn’t Brock remember?” Misty wondered aloud.

“Maybe he just wanted an excuse to look for another kissing booth,” Ash mused.

“Yeah, probably.”

So they wandered around a little while, and found a haunted house. “Does that look familiar to you?” Misty asked.

“Yeah, but there’s no way it could be the same one.”

“Wanna go in?” Ash shook his head, but with a little cajoling Misty got him to go in. They went and bought their tickets, and walked in, after Misty put Togepi in her backpack.

“You can... see the... wires.” He paused for a moment. “Nah, couldn’t be.”

They continued along, looking at witty gravestones, “blood”-splattered walls, and the occasional paper mache Ghost Pokemon that would spring out of nowhere. Then they walked by what seemed to be some sort of large, non-descript rock. Then, a hand suddenly reached out and grabbed Ash’s ankle. Ash jumped back, surprised.

He looked, and saw someone “trapped” underneath the rock. The person moaned, and then said, “Please... you have to help me...” Ash was dumbfounded. “Please?”

“It’s... it’s just an act,” Ash stuttered.

“Or can you at least loan me some Tylenol?”

“Let’s get out of here...” Misty said.

“A Band-Aid?”

“Y-y-yeah. L-let’s get out of here,” Ash replied.

“Maybe some WD-40?” the guy asked again. Ash and Misty slowly walked away, pretending to ignore him. “Hey! Don’t ignore me!” No reply. “That’s it! I curse you! Both of you! And your Pikachu! And your children! They’re cursed too! All of them! And... and...” They rounded a corner. “Hey! Get back here! I’m... not done... cur... sing... you...” The person collapsed.

Ash, Misty, and Pikachu collapsed on the ground outside. “That... was freaky,” Ash said.

They sat there for a while, until Brock walked up, a disappointed look on his face. “No kissing booth.”
That night, at the campfire, Brock ate his food like normal, but Ash and Misty mostly stared into space, totally creeped out by the day’s events. They both had difficulty getting to sleep that night.

Morning came, and while Brock acted normal, Ash and Misty went about their routines with the same blank looks as the previous night. Pikachu had a worried look on its face. “What’s wrong with you guys?” Brock asked. “You were just fine last night?”

“Huh?” Misty asked. “Oh, nothing.”

After walking a while, they found the carnival again. “Hey!” Brock exclaimed. “Lets go have a look!”

Ash and Misty looked at each other for a second, and then answered. “NO!”

Brock was taken aback, but it didn’t stop him. “You guys sure are acting weird today, but suit yourselves. I’m gunna go look for a kissing booth.” He wandered off into the carnival. Ash, Misty, and Pikachu fell backwards.

“What should we do?” Misty asked.

“I think we should see if we really need to help him,” Ash answered.

So they went to the haunted house, paid admission, and packed Togepi. They walked inside, through the fog covering the floor. Ash ignored the fog machine hiding in the corner. They hurried along, and Ash punched the Ghastly out of the way when it popped out. They passed the witty gravestones, “blood”-splattered walls, and occasional paper mache Ghost Pokemon that would spring out of nowhere.

Then the found the rock. The hand suddenly reached out and grabbed Ash’s ankle. Ash looked down at the person “trapped” under the rock. The person moaned, and then said, “Please... you have to help me...”

“Uh...” Ash started. “Do you really need help, or is this a part of the act?”

“YOU THINK THIS IS A JOKE? Get me outta here!” They tried to move the rock, but it wouldn’t budge. They tried using their Pokemon, but they accidentally budged the rock in the wrong direction. “AAAAAAAAAH! You call this help? I curse you! Both of you! And your Pikachu! And your children! They’re cursed too! All of them! And... and...” Ash, Misty, and Pikachu fled. “Hey! Get back here! I’m... not done... cur... sing... you...” The person collapsed.

They found a bench outside and waited for Brock to find them. He showed up, was about to speak, but then Ash said, “We know. We know.”

“No kissing booth,” Misty added.

“How’d you know?”

“Don’t ask,” they replied.

The next morning, they again approached the carnival. “Hey!” Brock exclaimed. “Let’s go have a look!”

This time Ash and Misty decided to play along. “Okay,” they said.

“I gotta go find a kissing booth!”

“Oh, no you don’t!” Misty said. “We’d better follow him so that he doesn’t get himself into trouble, right Ash?” She winked.

“Right.” Ash winked back. That morning, they secretly decided to not enter the haunted house at all.

So they followed Brock around. Out of the corner of her eye, Misty saw something peculiar. She looked, and saw the guy who was trapped under the boulder, only not trapped! She overheard him saying something about going to the haunted house. Her conscience got the better of her. “Ash, look! It’s that guy! Maybe we can stop him!” Ash nodded.

They ran after him, but had difficulty catching up. The guy was getting close. He was about to buy a ticket. Ash jumped. The guy saw Ash and tried to back out of the way. He backed into a concession stand, which caused it to shake, and then collapse on top of him!

The guy looked at Ash and Misty. “This is YOUR fault! I curse you! Both of you! And your Pikachu! And your children! They’re cursed too! All of them! And... and...” Ash and Misty fell backwards. “Hey! I’m... not done... cur... sing... you...” The person collapsed.

Morning came once again. They arrived at the carnival once again. “Hey!” Brock exclaimed. “Let’s go have a look!” He then looked and saw their tired expressions. “Hey, you guys don’t look so hot. Maybe you guys should sit down. There’s a bench over there.” Ash, Misty, and Pikachu went and sat down. “You guys just wait there. I’m gunna go look for a kissing booth!”

“We figured as much...” Misty groaned.

Ash slumped down far, with his feet hanging far out in front of the bench. Then, unbeknownst to Ash, Misty, and Pikachu, the guy walked up. He tripped over Ash’s feet and crashed into a tent.

The guy removed the tent flap that covered his head. However, he was trapped under the heavier stuff. The guy looked at Ash and Misty. “This is YOUR fault! I curse you! Both of you! And your Pikachu! And your children! They’re cursed too! All of them! And... and...” Ash, Misty, and Pikachu lazily got up and walked away. “Hey! Get back here! I’m... not done... cur... sing... you...” The person collapsed.

They found another bench and slumped down. After a while, Brock found them. “What are you doing here? I thought I was going to meet you at that other bench.”

“Long story,” Ash replied.

Brock then slumped down next to them. “I didn’t find a kissing booth.” Then he looked up, and his face brightened up. “Hey, there’s one right there.” He got in line. Normally Misty would have grabbed him by the ear, but this time she simply wasn’t in the mood.

The next morning, Ash and Misty didn’t even want to get up. “Brock?” Misty asked. “Can we just stay here today?”

“Hmm... We probably should. You guys still look like you’re still out of it like yesterday.

Ash and Misty jumped up. “YESTERDAY?” They mumbled to each other, trying to figure out why they were free. Then they both stopped cold. “YOU MEAN WE HAD TO FIND THE STUPID KISSING BOOTH?”

“What are you guys talking about?” Brock asked.

“Huh? Nothing,” Misty replied.

“We should probably get some rest,” Ash added. They both crept back into their sleeping bags.

The End
