Strategy Article: Building Modified Decks (includes a Latias ex deck)

The one BIG thing you are neglecting here is that with a quickly evolved Salamence it can very easily pull whatever opponent's Pokemon it wants from the bench and start bashing on them quickly. This is also a very effective way to disrupt any evolving that the opponent might be doing.

If I remember correctly, when u use Salamence's power...your opponent chooses who to send out, not you. So technically you can't "pull whatever opponent's Pokemon it wants from the bench and start bashing on them quickly". They are gonna send out a sacraficial lamb that means nothing to them. With a poor 1st attack and a mere 60 for 4 energy, I can't see you recovering any faster than Latias Ex. I'm just trying to get the facts straight since you have opposition to everything BPBD and I say??????? With Water Call allowing you 2 attach an extra energy per turn to the active and Magnetons power putting energy back into your hand, you're never at an energy shortage.

As for the deck goes...you should really post an updated version on it so we can all fix it and not bash each others ideas...ain't that right Dark Tyranitar?

Actually, your opponent chooses which Active (assuming they're using 2) to switch, and you choose one of his benched Pokémon.

I see your explaination of the card, but now I see how poorly it is worded. I also see like 4 other different picture possibilities in my head now... so confused

I was also confused at first, and yes, the wording of the card is rather confusing (thanks to the 2 active pokémon thingy). But yeah, it's a straight Gust o' Wind power, which is an awesome advantage.

Shift,

I also was originally under the assumption that your opponent decided which benched Pokemon to send out. In fact, I was playing it that way for a week or two until I ran into someone else who had a Salemance deck and who played his Poke Power as a "Gust of Wind." (I agree that the wording makes the interpretation very confusing.)

Afterwards I checked on the ruling on this card's usage and discovered that the opponent only gets to choose which Active Pokemon returns to their bench, (which I think is the original wording). This is only relavant if they are playing with 2 active Pokemon. Regardless, though YOU choose which one comes off of the bench to replace whatever one was benched.

As I mentioned previously, this can be a very powerful tactic for attacking, especially if you can get it evolved and fed with energy cards quickly enough to disrupt any evolutions and energy feeding that your opponent may still be trying to do.

Duck,

Was that recommendation to post the deck components aimed at me or at Myst???

Also, I don't really have opposition to everything BPBD and you say.

It's just that I originally tried the Latias EX/Swapert line, and was not satisfied with it's outcome.

I was even looking to add a Blaziken or Typhlosion line in as well, to also try to help out with the Fire Energy replacing. However, things just got too complicated for me with me running those two lines, and I couldn't get my deck to run as fast as I'd like it to run.

Again, if you feel more comfortable with one of those other variations using Latias EX, then fine. Ultimately the usefulness of a particular deck is determined with its extensive usage and tweaking.

I just wanted to thank Myst for this "article". I have quite a few new players that would benefit from ANY kind of help.
If the rest of you would like to tout your prowess at playing the Pokemon TCG, use your wisdom and make an article to help the newbies learn more. Its alot more constructive than tearing apart someone else's work.
Any and all intelligent and well written articles are greatly appreciated!

Myst,

I seem to have inadvetantly "highjacked" this thread, which wasn't my intention. - (sorry!)

So what are your thoughts on this?

T-Tar,

Myst needs to post a current version of his deck se we can fix it. This thread has turned into nothing more than a long IM chat. If he doesn't post something new soon, it might get locked?Post a new verzion!!!! :D

As far as your deck goes T-Tar, I wouldn't mind seeing how it works compared to my Swampert/Latias deck. If you don't wanna post it for the world to see, send it in a PM or an e-mail and we can talk like that... l8a

Duck,

Since I'm gearing up for this quickly approaching City of Champions Tournament, I really would prefer not to post its exact components. (Plus, I'm still making some small changes to it).

However, I'll PM its contents to you, (if you do the same with your Latias EX/Swampert deck to me).

I have been playing swampert/latias/ton for some time now. We discussed it here on this board. Contrary to what some think, it's a good deck. It has tested well and performed good for me @ tournies. I played it saturday at the shack. Here's the list I am playing:

The 100 damage machine
19 pokes
3 latias ex
3 mudkip water gun or fury swipe
2 marshtomp slash
3 swampert water call
2 skitty
2 delcatty
2 magnemite random spark
2 magneton

23 trainers
4 oaks research
4 oracle
3 professor elms training method
2 lanettes net search
2 rare candy
3 nav
2 master ball
2 switch
1 tv

nrg 18
8 water
6 fire
4 electric
I went 4-2 in swiss and ending up winning the single elimination. I beat salamance, gardylord, and aggron in the top 8. The deck lost to muk ex (no chance) and machamp (drag off killed me). My strategy was this. Build 2 swamperrts and 1 ton and delcatty with a latias active. Discard 2 for 100, trade 1 card for 2 nrg, use swamperts power and repeat. There are tricks to the deck. For instance, I found that 2 fire on the active latias is best. That way you can double attach with swampert on the active and attach a fire to the bench. Wobby causes it a few problem. I pplay switch. I like to have one nrg on a benched poke, sometimes swampert, ton, or delcatty. I use the power of double attaching for a quick power up. Be careful if you use ton to attack. If ton goes down and you TV'd already, it's over. Your better off fighting wobby with swampert (auto sleep is wonderful) or delcatty. Losing catty does not hurt the deck much. I prefer lanettes over sparce. I want to attach to latias 1st turn and be doing 100 ASAP. Sparce does hurt latias.

Here's my list...

Pokemon: 20
4 Dunsparce (Sandstorm)
3 Mudkip (Dragon)
3 Marshstomp (Slash)
3 Swampert (Water Call)
2 Magnemite (Random Spark)
2 Magneton (Magnetic Field)
2 Latias ex
1 Lugia (Crystal)

Energy: 18
10 Water
4 Fire
2 Electric
2 Psychic

Trainers: 22
4 Oracle
4 Professor Oak's Research
3 Copycat
3 Pokenav
2 Professor Elm's Training Method
2 Lady Outing
2 Switch
1 Crystal Shard
1 Town Volunteers
