Swedish Nationals Report- 1st Place Masters

or hyperbole, or exageration. If someone is going to make a negative comparison they should make sure that their facts are correct. Just look to politics for what happens when there is a constant repetition of what is thought to be true rather than what is actually the case.

Never let the facts get in the way of a good story?

FWIW I don't believe that "My Battle Roads are larger than your Nationals 90% of the time." meets your definition to be a figure of speech. just what is the specialized meaning? Words can mean what they say, English is a literal language too that is capable of making clear statements.

@Cyrus, I actually don't care about the comparison. Its the statement without supporting evidence that I was grumping at. Followed by its subsequent defense again without supporting evidence.

Replace the word "90%" with "vast majority" and you have the specialized meaning of Mune's phrase—a phrase that had a clear figurative interpretation. The analytical skills required to read between the lines to understand the underlying meaning of other people's statements can often be elusive.

I can be just as critical in terms of attacking your grammar as you are of mocking Mune's diction. [DEL]90% of people[/DEL] The vast majority of people understood exactly what Mune meant. ;)

but it most likely is not a vast majority either. I expect that 26 masters at a battle road for the USA should be described as average. If you want to see why then have a look at the data: http://pokegym.net/forums/view.php?pg=tourneyscrape which has lots of low values. I would have had no "grump" if Mune had said average or most and would have congratulated him if he had posted supporting data. But of course average doesn't sound impressive. Doesn't support any myth. Who needs data anyway?

losJackal's data has 294 events with 6850 masters.

From losjackal's data, the average attendance is 38.7755102. The actual average is about 50% higher than your not-factually-based expectation.

From my experiences, a turnout of any less than 32 at a Battle Roads in my area (Northeastern US) is pretty low.

6850/294 = 23.3

not sure how you are getting 38.8 unless you are ignoring that the question was about masters attendance

Ah, I was ignoring the fact that this was about Master's attendance. My bad. I guess this conversation is moot.

I hope that Mune's original point that alluded to the low level of competitiveness of some European Nationals is not lost because of my mistake.

ah the old chestnut that European players are inherently bad.

That's not what I said. I don't think that European players are inherently bad. I just think that the level of competition in many of these European countries' Nationals is very low compared to an event like New Jersey States. Europe has some world-class players. I don't get why you think that I think that European players are inherently bad.

I'll use an example. Devean George was a player on the champion NBA's Los Angeles Lakers during their 3-peat from 2000 to 2002. However, he played for a Division III school in his college years (Augsburg College). (Division I is best, Division II is second best, Division III is worst.) Devean George himself is a great player, but the level of competition he faced in college was very weak. Likewise, there are some great Scandinavian Pokemon Players, but the level of competition they face at their Nationals is also very weak.

Allright, Allright...

Enough of the TROLLING by you all on this thread.

I wish a mod would come clean some of this CLUMP out of here, so we can give props where props are due.

Congrats on the 4 Straight National Championship!!!

I don't care the event, or the area, to win 4 straight of any event, with 25+ players annually is a COOL accomplishment.

Kind of sad to hear that most people do not follow the golden rule. You must play at least one Mewtwo EX in your deck, or you will get ROLLED by Mewtwo!!!!

The ultimate counter to Mewtwo is...Mewtwo! (yes, shut up, I know you can do the 2/1 Terrakion swap..., but still...the easier counter is Mewtwo).

In essence, thanks for the great report, with detailed matchups and top cut!!!

See you in Hawaii.....You have to be nice to me, you have no choice LOL.

Thanks to everyone who congratulated me

@Vince: Always nice to write reports, especially when people like to read them
Not sure what you meant by that last sentence actually(you are probably a judge), but see you there :thumb:
