Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

TheDarkTwins 18th Place Worlds 08 Report with Rogue AmphyZong

It's great to see the Pokémon I've been using since it's debut do so well. Major congrats on making it work with Bronzong, that's something I just wasn't able to do, but I'm a terrible player. =p

Regardless, congrats to you for getting so far, and congrats to both you and Snowball for building such a great list for Amphy.

Thanks, I appreciate the compliment. It was the testing the deck relentlessly that helped us get the deck to do well. I am fairly dissappointed as my goal was to T16 and I only ended up T32. I should be happy that I did so well, but the fact is when I have played at 4 US Nationals and 3 Worlds and made cut 4 times and lost 4/4 in the first round of top cut, I get a little upset, if you know what I mean.

Yeah, he deserves most of the credit for making it sooooooo good.

Thanks again,
Drew

great list.. did you make it yourself?

kinda lame what you did to beat Roos..
:'l

nice job on top 32 tho

Thanks, my friend did most of the work however.

All I did to Tom was called out a ruling on him. I didn't know it would make me win the game. I knew it improved my chances but I wasn't positive it would win me the game.

I would say the player that misplayed would be the lame one......
you know, if Drew called a judge because his opponent made a mistake and broke a rule, he did the right thing.
If you don't want a ruling to go against you.........DON"T misplay and break the rules! dededede......

gj buddy, sorry i couldn't be there to witness it!

Thanks man, I am sorry you couldn't make it, but there is always next year.

GJ for your great result.

I think Ampharos/Bronzong built this way was one of the best option to counter the metagame based on GG-Empoleon. And i consider it a rogue because there were very few players who were playing it.

I played something similar at Worlds.
My main problem was that the match-up vs GG was not as good as i expected because you can still suffer a lot the T2-T3 Plox or a very skilled GG player.
This is why i was forced to add some cards (4th Scramble, Gengar/Shuckle combo, Dusknoir, Chatot) in order to have more options to contrast it, and i reduced the Ampharos line to 1-0-1 because i saw it was not so useful vs GG (Lake Boundary make them OHKO both Bronzong and Ampharos with Gardevoir-Gallade and the body is not so useful if you don't have a quick Ampharos) while it was the key to win over Empoleon.
Maybe some depth test with a simple straigt Ampharos-Bronzong list would have changed my idea.
But well, i'm still happy to see a deck like this made a so high result.

So GJ to you again!

Thanks man. I found smart play helped the Lake Boundary situation. Most GG's you could afford to waste your windstorm to discard your lake boundary. You also had to read the board. If you didn't have damage on your Bronzong, Gardevoir doesn't OHKO it with Lake in play if they have a DRE attached.

GJ man. good seeing you again.

I still say you need glasses if I look like Torterra :p

Heh, I was just messing with you. It was great to see you again. Thanks!!

oh nevermind, I just re-read the Roos part again...

I didn't realize Roos had already flipped the one prize with Psychic Cut.
I thought he just said "Psychic Cut for 80"
'cause if he did say "psychic cut for 80" (without the action of flipping the prize), he could've meant he was gonna flip over 2 prizes to do 80(counting the effect of Coating) when it would normally be 100.

Yeh, he said Psychic Cut for 80 (I already had damage on me) so it would of been just enough to ko me. He flips one, and I said are you flipping one for Psychic Cut AFTER he did. He says yes and that is when I proceeded to call over the judge. I was just following the ruling that was announce before the tournament.

Hey drew-Good job on your impressive showing. Sorry to ehar you almost got caught in the hurricane but good to see your made it back to Jersey safe. I would of been happier if i got a little more then a quiet blow off when i congradulated you on day 1 for making top 32. I hope you do well this upcoming season and best of luck making San Diego worlds next year :)

Yo. Very nice. I'm glad to see that you don't have to play GG/Empoleon to do well at a major tourney!

Thanks, I appreciate it.

Thanks Joe. It was a tropical storm actually, but I looked at my original flight on Wensday and it seems I still would of gotten out. I just moved it up a day because it seemed pointless to go to the parks in the rain. As for the blowing you off, I don't remember that. I was really tired on Saturday night, and most likely was looking for my friends to get something to eat and then go to bed. I was sooooooo tired you have no idea. Thanks I hope to see you there again as well. :thumb:

yea my bad..(read ur post wrong)

sux that Roos miscalculated,
but it was fair 2 let the judge decide

btw dude.. props for u and ur playtesting dudes for getting this deck 2 work.
the amphyzong combo is cool, but i never saw anyone build a good list till now (most of them had like, a 3-3 Zong)

It's okay. :thumb:

3-3 is good but we were having issue beating GG without the 4-4 Zong in the deck. As soon as we changed it was able to beat GG pretty consistantly. I am just disappointed I wasn't able to play Jason in T16. I wonder what would of happened if we had played.

Drew

I also think 4-4 Bronzong is the exact number to have some good chances against GG (after playtesting a lot).

Just another thing...do you guys think 3 Scramble were enough? I like this number but i feel like 4 Scramble can be necessary to contrast any fast Wager+Lock.
