Things to do at Nationals if not playing in the main event???

Hello,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum.... Move if you feel the need...

I was wondering if there is an information regarding any other events going on at Nationals if you are NOT playing in either main event.

I cant seem to find a schedule of side events or any other going-ons.

What are your plans if you didnt meet the requirement to play in the main event?

Is there a schedule somewhere that shows registration times for side events, or event if side events are going to be held?

I keep hearing about the secondary event commonly referred to as SCRUB-nats, but cant seem to confirm a starting time or date for this event.

Any information would be great.... Please feel free to discuss what your plans are for the weekend if you cant participate in either main event...

Well for a purely non-Pokemon getaway, there is a mall just down one of the sky tunnels, could always rummage about there. Or plenty of other attractions, football dome if you're into that, the nearby ballpark and raceway, there's even supposed to be a zoo somewhat near I think.

Or if you mean Pokemon stuff, well I don't remember any specific side event registrations, they just seem to pop up. Though that's not including like the mutant midnight draft and such.

Overall even though I could play in the main events, I am just going to hang out in the open game room area and trade...but now that you mention no big side events maybe we can have a few of our own in there...

Make sure to participate in the Pokemon League. It is absolutely free. You play a game with someone of your choice, go report it and earn prizes. In the past, there have been prizes like Pokemon hats, Pokemon mats, Pokemon deck boxes, and booster packs!

Also, they are always running pick up events, for free, that can earn you booster packs for winning.

Nationals is a ton of fun for those not participating in the main event.

I am assuming that, unless we are specifically told they won't happen, the usual sideevents will be there. Including scrub-Nats (I hope so, anyway. I'm totally winning Nats, but if I don't, I can always win scrub-Nats, right?).

No PokeGym Mutant Draft this year.
Last year was a ton of fun, but it was a huge amount of work! It was like running a pick-up Regionals!

League has always happened every year I've been there.

Rolling FREE 8-man single elim tourneys basically all the time.

Last year, the Jrs and Srs played an impromptu FREE 300 person tournament where everybody over .500 got pack prizes at the end. This was done during the downtime when the Jrs/Srs were done playing, but the Mas still had several rounds to complete.

The Gym isn't having the Mutant this year? Mebbe some enterprising individual(s) would be willing to fix that (I wish I could, I'm not gonna be there).

Ness usually does something crazy with old cards.

Also, you can always start something up. Dunno the restrictions on that, though...

If the Mutant Draft happens again, I'll be happy to help again. Not sure if I have the chops (or the connections) to run it myself though.

I'd say that only a PTO that has run a Regionals could handle a continuation of the Mutant Draft.
AND they'd have to be willing to go straight from the tournament to runnning an 8 hour event into the wee hours of the morning and then get up with a couple of hours sleep and get to work on Nationals the next morning (assuming they're on staff).

We've been crazy enough to do that the past few years; and kudos to Patricia for being the lead on this for most of that time. But this year, we feel the need to step back.
I am, however, glad we were able to redeem the Mutant Draft last year after the problems it had the year before due to the unexpected large attendance.

If anyone feels they have the desire AND ability to handle, contact me via email (pokepop at pokegym) and I'll discuss it with you. However, I don't want to put the 'Gym's imprint on an event that will leave a bad taste in the player's mouth if it is not run successfully, so I'm not going to give my blessing to just anyone to run it.
