Tyrogue evolving help...

I finally hatched the right Tyrogue that I want to train into a Hitmontop but it seems tricky.

The Tyrogue is Adament nature so its attack is raised and Sp. Attack is lowered. It is at level 1.

Is there any trick to making sure that the attack and defense stay the same by level 20 so it will evolve into what I want? While still EV training it correctly.

252 HP 252 Attack and 6 Speed

Any help would be greatly appreciated !

If you EV train it in Defence and attack (note how many) to evolve it, you can use Qualot berries to then remove the EVs once it evolves. Each berry will remove 10 evs.

and you have to get the berries from the dream world?

Also so for every one EV in attack I should put one in defense or since the sttack raises faster because of its adament nature do I do 1 in attack for every 2 in defense?

Ideally, don't EV train it at all in Atk, depending on which format you're doing Hitmontop usually likes Spe or HP, so I'd get those out of the way. When you're nearing Lv 20, then use some Iron to boost its defense up so it can equal Atk when it hits 20 and tries to evolve. Then use Qualot Berry to reduce down its Def and EV train normally from there.

And yes, Qualot Berry is from the DW. Or if you have a friend with some and time to kill, he can transfer you some on his Pokemon.

I am still super new at this so you are gonna have to explain a little more clear for me... It is for doubles, VGC 12 I believe it is called... On a different site it said an adament one was best? How would you all train a perfected hitmontop?

Well just to clarify the Gym's rules, please don't mention that site here, it is a non-PG site so don't mention it and it'll keep you out of trouble :thumb:

Anyways, your common VGC Hitmontops usually go with a simple 252 HP, 252 Atk spread like you mentioned in you first post. So considering you want your Tyrogue to evolve into Hitmontop, start training HP EVs up to level 18/19. From there, I would actually save and use some Rare Candies to experiment with how much Iron you need to balance Atk and Def. Once you have that figured out, you can either implement that plan with the Rare Candies to evolve and then use Qualot to reduce those EVs, and once you're done training in HP, then you can EV train in Atk freely since your Tyrogue has evolved. Alternatively, once you've found out how much Iron you need, just give your Tyrogue the Iron and then go back to EV training and leveling for HP EVs and hit 20.

Thank you so much! That helps alot!

If I remember correctly, it takes 6 Iron to balance Attack and Defense at level 20, assuming you have 31 Attack and Defense IVs. You can also try typing in your Tyrogue's IVs into a damage calculator or battle simulator to save you the effort of experimenting.
