Unlimited in Nintendo's grasp?

Okay, so we've been talk about modified for about a few weeks now, so I decided to start talking about the "other side." What do you guys think would be Nintendo's Unlimited format if they were to release one?
 
Ummmm...isn't "unlimited" exactly what it means? ALL cards are legal, without any restrictions?

Anything else would be another format other than Modified; is that what you meant?

Actully PokéMom, unless I am wrong, certain cards are banned from all formats. I think nintendo will screw it up some more... like they did with the ADV style. My opinion though.

Unlimited has no restrictions. If its printed in your local language, you can use it.

However card like Ancient Mew and Birthday Pikachu are not allowed in any sanctioned format, if that is what you are talking about. That comes down to cards that are not playable. For instance, Pikachu flips if it's your birthday, which can't be proven). Feel free to play both in casual play, but tell your opponent.

The Birthday Pikachu and Ancient Mew are the only cards that aren't even allowed in Unlimited. But, like Phil said, any other card that's been printed in your local language can be used (even if the specific copy you use was printed in another language).
 
Actually, I think there are options for unlimited, even if they aren't options right now. For example, at some point in the future, when RS and Sandstorm etc are dropped from Modified, maybe Unlimited will include all cards printed by TPC (but not WoTC). Or, they could implement a point system like Japan has. You could call that Unlimited since all cards are allowed, even if 4 copies of everything couldn't be used.

Anyway, I think the point is that there are still options for unlimited beyond 'everything allowed no matter what'. Who knows what they'll decide to do? :confused:
 
Excellent ideas, TrainerJL, but technically, they would not be "Unlimited" -- other than also allowing TPC-printed cards, which was banned by the local language rule. They would make an interesting format -- maybe call it something like "Unlimited 2," but they would not be traditional Unlimited. I'm interested in hearing about how the point system you're talking about works.

Doubt it. Pokemon is Nintendo's/TPC's intellectual property. Basically, they were allowing Wizards to work with it.
 
Bleh, so Pokemon was never WoTC's? Nintendo/TPC always owned it?

Nope. Save for Dark Raichu, I believe.

Tell me if I'm getting all three... "Are," not "is", "Errors," now "Errers," and three?
 
TPC has rights to all cards produced. It would be silly to ban cards produced by Wizards of the Coast due to the fact that they are exact copies of their Japanese counterparts.

I've always been of the opinion that the problem with BDay Pika has not been "prove-ability" but rather "fairness".
Sure, one could prove that its your birthday, but then that means that you get to use a broken card that your opponent cannot have access to (unless they happen to share your birthday).

As for your question at the end: No, TPC owns all rights to the cards. If WotC owns anything, it might be some non-card things like the Prof program, but given that PUSA is using all of those things, I imagine the liscencing contract had given rights to all of them to TPC.
 
Okay. I never had put much thought into all the who owns what stuff, partially because I've been out of Pokemon for alteast two years.

Tails:The riddle in OS's signature is a trick. The first errors are grammar, while the third error is that there is NOT a third error. That kind of cancels eachother out. Try to figure out what I mean.

I'm not a expert in this, but I gather that you have a maximum point budget for your deck. Most cards are zero points, but some, like Base Blastoise or NG Sneasel, have a point value. So you can use them, but you are limited in how many or in what combination. Maybe someone else here who is more familiar with this can give more details?
