Unlimited Tourney in lakewood

This last weekend there was an unlimited tourney as the title above suggests. It was intersting to say the least. I learned that the people in my league don't necessarily play for competition. For example one guy used a deck solely based upon decking himself. It was fun to watch it in play. Where I am from I am the best unlimited player because I almost never lose in that format.

It was the day of the tourney and I was wondering what to use. I was going to go with my Dragonite ex/Muk deck but everybody expects me to use that deck. So I felt the need to change things a little bit. So I toyed around and thought of Machamp/Aerodactyl/Dark Vileplume. As I messed with it I noticed major consistency issues. I found that when I was not the second player or did not get the right starting hand, I would automatically lose. I did not want to use that deck.

Finally I remember testing unlimited shuppet around when rising rivals came out. So I quickly rebuilt it and decided to go with it.

3-1 Banette
2 Crobat G
3 Uxie
2 Unown R
1 Spiritomb
1 Unown Q

4 Erika
4 Poke Drawer +
4 Plus Power
4 Super Scoop Up
4 Poke Turn
4 Mr. Fuji
3 Scoop Up
2 Gust of Wind
2 Pokemon Trader
2 Expert Belt
2 Cessation Crystal
1 Night Maintenance
1 Energy Removal
1 Professor Elm
2 Roseanne's Research
2 Buck's Training

2 Cyclone Energy
3 Psychic Energy

Now I will explain the logic of each of the cards.
First is Erika. She is necessary to draw cards. She keeps me consistent and since Bill is now a supporter, I would rather use her so I can draw many times in one turn.

Next is Cessation Crystal. I know you're probably thinking that this is a bad idea. However its sole purpose is to attach to an already played Crobat G then lock your opponent of Pokemon Powers (Aggron ex) which came in handy but will be discussed later on.

Then there is Gust of Wind. Some are reading this and wonder why not just use Poke Blower +. I believe that Poke Blower + is not needed in unlimited and there is no room for it in this deck. However if certain cards were wished to be removed, then it would find its way back into Shuppet. Gust of Wind is to pull off things on the bench and destroy them.

Afterwards there is Spiritomb. I only play 1 because I do not want to start with it. I put it out there to lock my opponent of trainers and slow the opponent down.

Finally there is Cyclone Energy. I play the cyclone energy incase someone tries to Mr. Mime, Mewtwo or Aggron ex me. Then I can stop what they have and proceed to attack.

The next piece is the matches.
First Match: Tangrowth/Sceptile (1-0)
I start with Crobat G. I am the first player. I have an energy in my hand. I do nothing and pass. It is his turn he attaches an energy to treecko and attacks for 10. Then I play down erikas and get an expert Belt, Roseanne's Research and Poke Turn. So I roseanne's for Shuppet and another Crobat G. Play down the Shuppet and Expert Belt. Then I flash bite for 10 to the treecko. Afterwards I send up Shuppet and Fade Out for the win.

Second Match: Meganium Theme Deck (2-0)
I knew from the start this was a new kid when I saw him sit down. I recognize the cards from the theme deck. My start up is similar to the first match. However the only difference is that he has more on his bench and is able to stall for a few turns. After about 6-7 turns I win.

Third Match: Butterfree Cherrim (3-0)
When I saw this guy I was surprised to say the least. Around my league he is known for playing Aggron ex/Aerodactyl. So I had properly prepared in advance for it. Yet when I see he is playing this he says it is because he thought that the tournament was modified. Basically I go first with Crobat G and pass. Then he tries to Pupate. It fails. So he evoluters for Metapod. It is then that I know I will win this match. I use Erikas and get some plus powers. Then I use Roseanne's Research to get the shuppet I need. Then I Poke Drawer + for Expert Belt. After this it is another turn 2 fade out for the win.

Fourth Match: Donphan (4-0)
This was the matchup I feared all day long. I battle this guy and his Donphan deck every single time I go to league. He has it a little different each time. This time he plays Metagross LA in his version in additon to Nidoqueen. He goes first with a Phanpy start and I start with Uxie. He attaches the energy and passes. I have a really bad hand this onpening game. So I Attach a Cessation Crystal and stall for time. I play down 2 shuppets to try to stop him. I attack him and hardly do any damage. His next turn he warp points my Uxie away and knocks out a benched Shuppet. So I attach expert belt and use flash bite. Doing measly damage each turn. He then sets up Nidoqueen and hits my active Crobat G. Then the next turn an oppening appears. I get another cessation crystal and attach it to Crobat G. By now I more plus powers in my hand and am able to do more damage. Then I gust of wind his Nidoqueen and destroy it. After this he conceeds because he cant use Set Up and can't draw any more energies.

In the end the guy who ran the tourney, the league leader, decides not to have a finals. This dissapoints my little sister as we are the only ones who have a 4-0 record. In a way I am kind of glad because the computer gave me the first place spot and I didn't have to work that hard for it. Another reason I am glad is because she was playing a T1 Feraligatr Prime deck. When she was talking about her matches she always got her Feraligatr T1 if she was second, T2 if she played first. I know that Hydro Crunch can OHKO anything in the deck with an expert belt attached. I am not sure that I would be able to stop the Feraligatrs unless I had a T1 Cessation Crystal. However in the end we received the same prize.
