I recently seen posts by RainbowRichards, and I am surprised to see that he has the word professor and his own custom avatar under his name? What has changed at Pokegym?
Wait a sec...how did RainbowRichards get a custom avatar and the word Professor?

and may I state, for the record, if this causes problems of ANY nature, I'll happily relinquish both, rather than cause discord at the 'Gym!

I just wanna know, did you get to choose it, or did they choose it for you? I dotn care what everyones Arvatar is, alot of people dont even use one.... though adding Proffessor back to my screen name would be cool..... anychance of that happening for us who were grandfathered over to Nintedo's Prof List. =)

In my mind, the answer is quite obvious, because I read "Financial contributors" as being a fancy way of saying "Avatars for sale".

Orange Soda, as I recall, unless you use a Geocities-type system, or have heaps of advertisements on the pages, then running a website can be somewhat costly to your wallet. From what I can see, Pokegym.net has No ads, No popups, and has it's own address, so the money has to come from somewhere to keep the site going.
Without these "Avatars for sale", as you put it (quite nicely, though ) then we wouldn't have the PokéGym forums at all....
It also gives the sponsors an incentive to do this, and after all, I've seen some forums where custom avatars have been enabled for all members, and it's hard to find any that don't have anything to do with porn or violence - quite sad, really. Yes, I know that most of us won't do that to the Avatars, but there are those that do.
Anyways, it makes the people who keep this site going feel special. :-D
PS- What does the words in your Sig. mean? (The ones just before Excel Saga)

Signature: I'm not gunna say because it doesn't quite make sense out of context (and even in context, it's just something that's funny because it's kinda random), so go find an Excel Saga DVD and find out. It's from the theme song. It's probably my favorite anime series. Funny stuff. I put it there because it's a fun line and because it would probably make people who actually know Japanese wonder what on earth I was thinking.

First, avatars are NOT for sale. You can't just "buy" your way into getting a custom avatar or title.
Secondly, for your information, payments for the board are NOT coming from outside sources as of yet. It is all being paid for by the administrators. The reason we have not allowed custom avatars is because we are afraid of things like "it's hard to find any that don't have anything to do with porn or violence". This is very true. This is a family site, and the administrators would much rather NOT have another thing such as avatars to have to deal with.

I really don't think I'd be the best person to tell you this, because to be completely honest, I don't know their reasoning behind it. I know why I have no problem with it though. RR has been a HUGE help to me when it comes to bug reports, any extra help, etc. So personally I'm happy he has gotten the ability.

Well folks, as many of you have noticed, there are some changes in the works. The evidence is all around you. I’d like to take a moment to try and put a few things in perspective. All the members of TC are committed to making this site a wonderful place for Pokemon fanatics and casual players alike, a place where news is shared, where members are free to debate issues of the day, and above all, a place that everyone enjoys being a part of.
I’m sure each and every one of us has an idea about how they would make the site better, but each and every one of us do not run the site – TC does. We do try to respond to the desires of the community, but you know what? The community members very seldom all agree on how any given subject should be handled. In an effort to give everyone a chance to make their wishes known, you have recently seen several threads asking for opinions and ideas for improvements. We don’t operate in a vacuum, but we also have to make decisions and move forward, even when that means we have to go in a direction that someone may not agree with. You can’t please all of the …
WE DO LISTEN THOUGH. When we first started this version of the Gym, we were looking at the possibility of aligning with PUI, making this another “Official” site like WizPog. The community said they liked the independent nature of a Board operated by individuals, so we didn’t pursue the “Official” connection. You wanted Pokemon avatars, we got some Pokemon avatars up as quickly as we could. You wanted a place to get ruling questions answered, since the WotC chats had ended and new cards were being released, we put up the Ask the Masters forum. You wanted FanFic, we have FanFic. While we’ve fallen far short of giving everyone everything they wanted, we have listened and tried to prioritize what we spend our time working on.
Recently a few people noticed that RainbowRichards had a custom title and avatar. WHY – What gives here you wanted to know? Please accept our apologies for any appearance of favoritism or preferential treatment. The fact of the matter is several months ago RainbowRichards sent us some money because he wanted to help support the Gym. We were not asking for contributions, nor are we asking now, but he took action and sent the money. Our preference is to find a way to keep the doors open without relying on contributions from the community, even though we know many would give willingly. It is an operating decision we have made, and right now we are sticking to that decision. Still, someone did something nice, and we have been looking for a way to say thanks ever since he did it. I’m sure he didn’t expect anything, but we were discussing things the other day and we took some action to thank him, which actually seems to have upset some people. That was not our intent.
In truth, the things you saw given to RainbowRichards are actually part of some other things we are working on. Think of it as a pilot project. I told you the evidence of coming change was all around. Using the title of Professor, without making that available to all Professors was ill advised, and that has been corrected. He gets to keep his custom avatar though, and maybe others will get one too, in the coming months. We try to be careful not to make anyone feel left out or slighted here, but we don’t have a perfect record in that department. We’ll keep trying though, because we appreciate each and every member of the PokeGym community!
So keep the suggestions coming, fight for your preferences, but try to understand and tolerate the decisions that don’t go your way. It’s true that we aren’t the “Old PokeGym”, but that Gym and all the others are part of what we are today, and what we will be tomorrow. I was part of that “Old Gym”, and as I remember it, there were disagreements back then as well. That’s just part of working together to make a better community. Feel free to speak your mind here, but please be respectful of others. Keep your eye out for those coming changes. Most of all, HAVE FUN!!!

I'm not angry or jealous. In my opinoin, i think he actually deserved the custom icon and "professor" under his name. We should actually be proud of him to do all this just to support a place we all enjoy. He did us a big help and we can't even thank him a little? I think the people who are mad or jealous should be ashamed.
