Well, not really.

I hardly ever post reports, as I hardly ever play in competitive events.

Usually, I will play in 1 Battle Road each series, just so I can say I have a rating of some sort.

So, here is my report for the Ft. Collins, CO Battle Road Spring 2011.

16 total players. 1 Junior, 3 Seniors, 13 Masters. All lumped together into a 4 round event. Top 2 for masters.

I go into the event fully expecting to see Sabledonk and any other donk deck out there.

I play my standard Umbreon deck, just cause I am not too worried about conforming to the local meta.

Round 1 - vs. Jery J. - Sabledonk
We both mulligan on the first hand, suffle and retry. Jery gets 2 basics, I get none. 3 mulligans later, I start a lone Eevee and hold an Uxie. Yea, bad idea, as Jery won the Colorado Springs event yesterday with Sable.

I lose the flip, Jery goes first. We flip cards, he has an Unown Q start and I believe a second on the bench. Top decks a Sableye. Plays through about half the deck, Blowers, Bats, Turns... you get the point. Half way through his turn, I fill out the match slip for the loss.

Finally, he knocks me out, all without even using the Sableye.

I reveal my hand. Collector, Communication, 2 Basic Dark, 1 Special Dark, and that silly Uxie.

Had I won the flip, I might have gotten the donk with Umbreon. Say what you will, I have had it work a few times lately.

GG Jery.

0-1

Round 2 - vs. Craig S. - Resheram / Ninetails / Emboar

I start a lone Uxie. Craig starts with Resh, and 2 other basics. I lose the flip.

Not really sure what Craig did on his first turn, but he was setting up pretty fast and I was not.

Finally got a second Uxie and Azelf out. Time walked for an Eevee. Had a terrible time setting up. Bu the time that I did get going, he was fully loaded up and hitting for the 120 every other turn.

I told Craig he should look into the Shuckle Promo, as it would help him set up faster.

He ended up winning the round 6 - 1.

GG Craig.

0-2

So, I am now 0-2 in a 4 round event... Drop time.

That seemed to relax the Judges, as they are always nervous when I play, since they are so used to me working the floor. Goofed off the rest of the day, looking at Zombie Kitty shirts and Zombie Sleeves... Nice finds Ron!

So, yeah, I was disappointed with my decks showing, but not really that surprised.

Props:
The Staff. Period.
Kevin H. did a great job as HJ, working well in a position that he is not used to with a newer group of Judges to work with.

Chris, you did very well as well.

Ty, your first show as a Judge was a good one. I expect that changed your thoughts on Judging.

Steph, nice job again as the computer chick.

Ron - Well rounded Staff, no issues that I was aware of. Another great event.

The rest of the palyers that showed up. 16 total is a bit disappointing, but you all made it a fun day.

Slops:
Cruddy attendance. An hour drive for the Staff and 3/4 of the players really sucks when the local players won't show up to the event.

Those cool Zombie sleeves only coming in a 50 pack...

Juniors - we really need more of these. 1 Junior - auto win. No points for any of the 4 matches he played.

Side notes:
Yes, SableDonk won at the Springs, however, it did not win today.

The format is messed up, way too fast for the first player. Not much of a chance of P2 getting a turn at all in this format. However, that being said, A lot of players are playing decks that don't run off the Donk concept. They are playing stuff that requires some set up and some thought in playing the deck.

But, one thing I love about Pokemon player is the fact that most of them like to play out the games, so they are getting creative in their decks. Not a slam to anyone or any deck, but I, like many others, actually like to play games. Not watch our opponent mill their deck in one turn and blow us out of the water.

My opinion - the format sucks.

Thanks for the read. See ya at the tables next year, time to get back to Judging.

I am still amazed a Reshiboar HGSS-on deck did so well at this event. My first lost had to be earned and my second lost (which was that Sabledonk) almost missed out the donk. I am happy with my 2-2 performance.
