What goes on in BR?

Hi everyone. This is my first year playing Pokemon TCG competitively and was wondering what happens in BR? Like do you play just 1 game against like 4-6 people and then they pick the top 4 (or something like that) with the best record and then those people play the best of 3 in a tournament fashion (like after you lose your best of 3, you are eliminated)?

OK, i just go back from one so i'll explain.
basically, first, there are five rounds, swiss-style. this means no one gets eliminated in those rounds.
then there is a top-cut for the top so many players, depending on how many attend. these players are put in a small elimination round setup where te last remaining wins and the second third and fourth get additional packs as prizes.

The number of rounds you play are dependent upon the number of participants in the tournament. Usually there are 4 or more rounds of swiss and a top cut. Under 16 players means top 2 cut and 16 or more is top 4
