What makes you a "Good Trainer"?

See mods! This thread is too fun to bury!!!

More data to support my choice that carbonated beverage preference leads to being a Good Trainer or not. I got 2nd today. I did NOT drink any Mountain Dew. Must I say more about why I did not get 1st?

This thread is definitely too much fun.

I'd hafta say if I was one card, not just a trainer, I'd be either Whishcash, because I'm supremely awesome and uber broken in every way, or Team Aqua's Cacturne, because it reminds Jermy of Spiny Nachos.

Don't ask. -_-

Oh! Spiny Nachos! YUMMY! I like them...well, minus the beans. Screw beans. I hate beans. Sour Cream? Eh. Not the best either. Spines though? HELL YEA!

There are several aspects that go in to making you a good player or a skilled player. Number one is your knowledge of the game. How many times have you read the instruction booklet, the sets of cards already out, the compendium? A good knowledge of those things makes you a good player. Next you need to know many of the mechanics of the decks, especially the two main ones i.e. Garde and BAR. Knowing how these work help you to beat them. Next you need to be able to build decks. Buidling decks can be very formulaic or you can be really creative. Finally, playing decks. You need to know how to play the deck you built to stand a chance at winning any tournments.

Where the real skill comes in is being able to pick up a deck, look through the cards, ask a couple of questions to the person who built deck and then play it with moderate efficacy, meaning you don't necessarily win but fought a good fight.

Many people say that there is no skill in limited but I disagree. This where everybody is equal especially booster draft. Everyone has a good chance of winning that depending on there skill in both building a deck(pulling the appropriate cards) and playing. You have to be able to beat your opponent with out having any idea of what else is in his deck.

I would consider myself a skilled player but seeing my rank some might disagree. I personally do not choose the trap of building a Garde or BAR deck and just playing that . I don't design a lot of the decks that I play but I do offer my help in building them. Good luck to you.

I have not. I will not lie.

You're such a good person!

I did have a Barboach or whatever passed to me as a final pick once if that counts!

Even Barboach counts, because it symbolizes part of Whishcash's greatness. Without Barboach, Whishcash would not be able to be so uber broken!

A poem to Whishcash (just like the stories Professor Douglas writes - XP)

Once there was a pokemon called Blaziken EX,
He was dominating the tournament scene.
Then Dragons Whishcash was discovered
And Whishcash is blue not green.

Now BAR decks suck thanx to Whishcash,
And everybody plays G-E-X, (with Whishcash)
But as for me, if you'd like to hear,
I think Aquapolis Togetic is the BEST!

YAY!!!!!!!!!

One big thing that i think you guys missed, well besides having the name Adam Yusuf or Chris Fulop or Levi Canfield, is that a great player knows his skill and never overestimates it. He also never underestimates his opponent, and should never rely on luck unless it is a last resort.

Another thing to do, is to get inside of the other person's mind. It's the most demoralizing thing in a game. Its hard to do online, but fun as hell in real life.
I literally made this kid Aaron, whose like 14, cry and quit in front of me during a fun game... he challenged me, saying these exact words, my deck will beat anything that you have. (Keep in mind that this person has little skill at most, ill give him the benefit of the doubt). I followed up by this, i bet that i can beat you with a dunsparce and unowns. He's like haha. The joke is on him... I literally get into his mind, and tell him that i have all four unowns in my hand and he believed me.. so i flash him first turn, beat his mysterious fossil.. So about 6 turns later... he has like why do keep playing with my mind and toying with me. Because its fun and ure a horrible player, like i bet tim could beat u 10 times in a row. (tims this 5 year old thats almost as bad as aaron) I literally have tim play him 3 times in a row, because of time. He won all three times. I then played with tims deck (which was making me about to puke bcuz it stinks) I beat him again literally not attacked for 10 turns...

ok thats getting off topic, but what really makes a good player good is
the skill
a decent deck
can be able to beat any deck, at least the main archetypes, by realizing what to do and being able to do it
Spiritual Terror as Well as "Card Terror" as i like to call it
A player's own mental attitude.
The qualitys he brings to the Community
The ability to play with any deck
The ability to make any deck
To take a random deck and be able to turn it into an archetype
Playing the best and beating the best
Also having some good competition in your area would help you alot... (this hinders me alot)
a lil luck helps you also
Also having a little psychic powers helps you, at least on a coins stand point.

Pokey- your wrong. Its definitely what you drink and your name. Trust me. I must admit though, I tried so hard to get a kid to cry because I beat him but it never happened. My ex girlfriend pulled it off in like 2 weeks, without even trying. I was MAD man! I even went as far as using a Stall deck against an 8 year old who had to use the bathroom but NO. The punk had willpower. I thought he'd break eventually ;)

NOW I do agree the better you are the better you're chances of winning, but I do think the cards you have and luck are the biggest factors. Sure you may be a great player but if some one hands you a lousy deck and says "here battle this "bar" deck I asure you you won't win unlees your opponent draws a crap hand. So in truth those really are the biggest factors in pokemon, not how good you are. :pokeball:

Lanturn, I know who you are! Your the tiger guy! I'm the guy who called you the tiger-guy! At the Severn CC! I was in desperate search of Furret before it started. (sorry about all these inside jokes this week) And you're wrong about that. I could pull off wins against BAR players with GARDY! And these were NOT sucky players. People skilled as or more skilled as me. Maybe just because you loose against BAR doesn't mean everybody else will. Jermy made a good deck, not an invincible one. And now that Blaziken ex's out it's even harder. But all you need is:

1) Skill in playing
2) Skill in building decks
3) A little bit 'o luck
4) Play Whishcash in EVERY DECK!!

Listen, when I talk about skill, I'm not talking solely about skill in playing!
I think to be good, you have to invent an archetype. *Pats himself on back for making an archetype*
No seriously, all kidding aside. You need to be able to contruct good decks to be good. I'm not talking about aquiring the cards. You must be able to really consider the metagame, which decks you have weaknesses against, how to counter them, and throw all of these factors together into one 60 card deck. It's not easy, but it's part of being skilled. Like it or not.

First off what is your name superwooper, the guy who played at severn. Second I was mainly refering too your opening hand. If you get one pokemon and no draw trainers your going down no matter how good you are. :pokeball:

lol me and my friend mike have magma v aqua battles, with a magma and an aqua deck (both his)

no matter what deck i have used i have beaten him every time!

i guess im the better player lol :p

If I give away my name my cognito will be ruined. Nobody on this board knows my name but MonkeyMan, Mudkip, Registeel, and Jermy101. You'll never find out! Lol.

Secondly, you're not understanding what I'm saying. "If you get one pokemon and no draw trainers your going down no matter how good you are." True. But your deck won't only get one pokemon and no draw trainers IF YOUR DECK IS BUILT WELL. That's where the skill at deck building comes in. Of course you can, but you'll have the suckiest luck ever.

You know what definitely does NOT make you a good trainer? Having your name spelled in all leet speak. Trust me ;)

And SuperWooper...I don't know your name but DANG, you DO look like an f'n Wooper. I swear to GOD. Paint yourself blue man and BAM! Instant halloween costume no one who doesn't play Pokemon will recognise!

That's why I'm such a good trainer. Because I look like a Wooper.

Actually, only the best of the best trainers look like certain pokemon. Take Mudkip for example, he's what, 6th in the friggin world?

He looks like a WHISHCASH!!!!!!!!
