You guys blew your chance

I'm kinda torn here.

On one hand, I will never try to discredit you guy's wins, or say that you guys are less skilled (even though I'm sure the sentiment isn't equal). So having quality information that could benefit the community would be very appreciated.

But GET REAL! Nobody is going to beg you for your information, well nobody who has any sense or self-esteem. You people aren't gods, and surely aren't gods of pokemon. If you want to act all mighty and "discipline" the community by not publishing your articles, then go ahead. Nobody wants over-sized egos running amok all over the community (even though that is already happening).

Again, I look forward to any constructive contribution but nobody is going to cry if nothing happens. And it's a shame that you guys would pull your information away from the community that could use it just because people disagree with you. It almost makes me question the reason you guys are trying to contribute in the first place. Did you want to spread information or just be more famous?

I saw the posts that lead to the thread being locked. Heck, I even reported one of them. Guess what? The writer was on your side Kant!!! He was bad mouthing mario and any supporter of the deck out....calling people idiots, stupid and an IQ of 14. The funnier part of that is the writer was P.O.'d bc he had ripped the Mario list from KG's front page, used it in a few BRs and got crushed ergo it is a "horrible deck"! He made zero changes to it to fit his style or metagame. Talk about your real "net decker"....and he was on PM and Kant's side.

IF you write more articles or type up BR reports.....good for you. IF you want to write an article....who cares if your "team" says no? Is it your deck or not? Does your team tell you how to play in the actual tourney or are you making those choices??

If you dont post anymore articles.....guess what? We are none the wiser or less off....bc we never had w/e it is you supposedly "took away".

Only when you responded to points and offered true "help", then the discussion was fruitful. I saw the "pro mario" camp as being more civil and offering their reasons....I saw many more anti mario folks simply attack those that supported the deck. /steps off soapbox

Lawman: Many teams do tell their members what to do. That is part of the reason why so many ideas are kept secret. Some people would love to talk discussion in public, but their team won't let them. Teams are great, but they have a ugly side to them too.

I don't understand the issue here. We are arguing over whether or not Mario should be allowed to called a deck. Is there a law that says a deck must be like this to be a deck?
No, there isn't.

I just do not understand why people are so mad over the Mario topic in general. I don't mean the "Mario. Why?" topic. What I mean is the stupid arguements it spawned. It's not like this is a ruling that PUI made that makes major changes i nthe game. We are arguing over whether or not 60 legal pokemon cards is allowed to be called a deck.

I am not for it one way or another. I am taking the "whatever floats your boat" thing. I don't care if it is called a deck or not and I cannot figure out why it is such a big deal if it is considered a deck or not.

That isn't what the argument is about. Of course it's a deck. But I've explained the premise a thousand times already, so anyone that hasn't seen it can go look on the other thread.

My problems were:
1) Personal attacks (implying that Kant and I were trying to somehow make ourselves feel superior; we're the people that still WANT to post articles regardless of that thread)
2) People's inability to read. I stated the reason we wrote it more times than I can remember and no one seems to get it. Or we're accused of doing it to make ourselves look good.

That's it, I don't mind people disagreeing, but we definitely should have known it would turn into a flame war. People from both sides of the argument were failing to use any reasoning whatsoever. Erik definitely won that thread by remaining calm and actually bringing up real points instead of questioning our "motives".

I won't speak for anyone else, but I'm actually interested in contributing to help make the general community better. And being more famous is definitely not one of my reasons.

For one, playing "randies" is just plain no fun. Whether they're new players or players with ineffective lists, I don't like easy wins. Likewise, winning a tournament with close, well-matched games is much more rewarding that winning a tournament with "cookie" matchups. Thus, I put myself "at risk" by bettering the competition, but I would RATHER have tougher competition. That way, no one can say that my win was easy, and it also forces me to be better at the game to keep up with rising, new players.

Personal benefit comes as a result of contribution. For example, when you help improve one player, they win more ganes, get a higher ranking, and earn you more points if you beat them, and don't take as many points if they beat you. You earn much more respect by contributing than you do by talking about contributing. And when someone you helped wins, your reward is knowing you might have had a hand in their success.

Personal benefit is nothing more than a bonus for me, to be honest. I'm confident enough in my skill that I can make a consistent deck and win a majority of my games, and I'm not looking for admiration; if I was, Pokemon would not be the place where such respect is most important.

Matt: I understand that completely about "teams". I also saw where the teams "claimed" Bobby (PM) as a "member and he flat out denied it. He confirmed discussing strategy w/ them, but not being part of them.

Who played the deck?? The player or the team?? This is still an individual game. I've never seen a WC check filled out to "Team _____(insert name)". I've seen plenty w/ a person's name. Heck, I remember when Jeremy won, he sold some of his cards, deck, etc. People in his "group" wanted a share and it drove a wedge between them.

Yes, "teams" are great to have to bounce ideas about. But once a deck has been played and a new set has been released (that WILL change the metagame), why hold back on a deck that has been played to death already??? It makes no sense.

Either way.....the reaction is childish. If they want to write, they will. If they dont...oh well. We cant lose something we never had!

Keith

EDIT: Well stated Bobby. You know I respect your play and you. Your family are good peeps (as the Silvestros like to say) I look forward to future articles from you.

You're absolutely right.

I think I finally understand the whole ILU thing. Seriously, the game needs more people like you.

Well, if wrote an article and all a mod did was bash it and act less modish and more jerkish, I'd be ****** too.

just because a mod posts a reply to someone doesn't mean we are speaking as mods....I consider myself a regular trader of the boards and have a little duty of watching the trading forum and price guide discussion which I enjoy doing and never ever threaten people with my powers. I may post something you don't like but if you think about it the "Mario, Why?"article did the very same thing so what exactly is the difference? And to say we act jerkish and less modish .....Maybe you should look at what you type some time.....

to Desert Eagle and PM - It is totally your choice not to post deck articles but to me it would be a great addition to our forums as you are both proven good players and I would love to read over your deck reports and such as long as it is actually readable and not all trukish!:wink: j/k I knew from the start the mario article being posted would only cause huge problems and I proved myself right....correct? SO all's I would like to say is consider doing articles that will be for all to enjoy ,and possible learn from, so maybe one day we can show penguinmaster there are some decent player's for him to beat.:thumb:

Cheers,Mike

Despite being a member of the team in question, I can say that I generally agree with this. The only people who would actually "beg" for help are begfriends, and these people dislike Pokegym more than anyone. x_x

Chad's post is not an attempt to become more "famous" (we have that covered already...i.e., one 11-14 world champion, a former national champion, and about five or six regional champions n_n), and he's not pulling it away because people disagree (read: he and others feel _offended_ by some recent comments), but it IS just continuing more bad blood that needs to go away.

Offended by recent comments? I didn't see many people attacking the creators in the thread, rather attacking the people that were debating the thread's legitmacy, subject, points, etc.

Now, I will say that a few people might have pushed it with statements about the creators not contributing and stuff, and I guess I can understand them not liking it. Nobody likes their person to be attacked.

The obvious answer would be to take away their future help, but who is that going to benefit? The ones that actually wanted the help or the ones who wanted to mess up everything and cause conflict?

I apologize to the thread's creators if they were offended by people's posts towards them. I'm not saying those people were totally wrong, but they were partially in the wrong for where and when they said it. That stuff needs to be taken to PM or better than that, face to face. And being a mod, I apologize for not being able to weed out not only the attacks on the creators but also other debaters (but I have no power in that department, so I couldn't do anything anyways).

See, we all can show a little humility.

If you don't like people having opinions go to some communist country where you can't say whatever you want. People are going to disagree with your points. Pokegym would be pretty boring if everyone just replied. "great article" or
"I agree completely with everything you say, because I am a mindless robot." or
"well I know that this has to be correct since no one is ever wrong and you know everything."
Stop whining.
