Here's one option that my son and I are considering for the Gencon team events.

//NAME: Poison Deck -- Player B
// Pokemon
2 Cleffa
3 Nidoking
4 Nidoran(M) AQ
3 Nidorino AQ
2 Scyther L23
2 Shuckle SK
2 Tyrogue

// Trainers
4 Copycat
3 Grass Cube 01
2 Oracle
3 Prof. Elm's Training Method
2 Pokemon Fan Club
2 Traveling Salesman
4 Professor Elm
4 Pokemon Trader
1 Town Volunteers

// Energy
13 Grass Energy
4 Full Heal Energy

And the Partner Deck:

//NAME: Burn Deck -- Player A

// Pokemon
3 Beedrill SK
2 Cleffa
3 Eevee L14
1 Entie (Non Holo)
3 Flareon SK
3 Kakuna SK
2 Tyrogue
4 Weedle (SK, 50 hp)

// Trainers
4 Copycat
2 Double Gust
3 Hyper Devolution Spray
3 Mirage Stadium
3 Pokemon Fan Club
4 Professor Elm
3 Pokemon Trader
2 Traveling Salesman
1 Town Volunteers

// Energy
6 Fire Energy
4 Recycle Energy
4 Warp Energy

The object of the decks are to inflict the maximum suffering through status effects, especially poison. The first deck can poison via the Grass cube, Shuckle, or give double poison via the LC NidoKing. The second hits by giving poison/paralysis from Beedrill and burn from Flareon.

One thing that I want to keep is the high number of basics. In team play I think that at least 12 basics are needed. This keeps the other guys from getting a quick knockout against one weak basic.

The basic strategy is to start fast and have both opponents afflicted with a status effect nearly every turn. Player B can use a Grass Cube from the beginning, Player A can possibly use Flareon from the beginning with a lucky flip. Each can do a status effect without a flip. Player B is building toward a Nidoking to inflict the double poison. Player A can burn every time and build toward the paralysis/poison of Beedrill.

Overall the aim is to force the other team to rescue 1 or both actives every time. This rescue will either cost a trainer (Switch, DG, etc.) or will force them to pay retreat cost every time.

I also like Player B having a couple of Oracles to allow A to topdeck a couple of cards.

Thoughts Appreciated.

Player B: Full Heal Energy? Warp Energy or Switch would probably be more helpful. And, consider Revelation Shuckle instead of Skyridge -- a better defenive power (IMO), more HP, and it can do two Conditions (Poison/Paralysis) on a flip for (G)(G). Add some Tools, or Traveling Salesman is nearly useless. I can see this one working with the Nidoking line, a Jumpluff line, or a combination LC/AQ Muk line.

Player A: Try to find room for a second Entei -- a single may not show up when you need it. Add some Bills, to complete the Oracle combo started by the other deck. You probably can afford to drop one of the Mirage Stadiums -- 3 Stadiums is a little much, IMO.

Every time I think I can't say anything stupider, I prove myself wrong. Maybe I should just stop thinking.

I thought regular Modified was up in the air! This team stuff can give you fits.

I would agree with the warp energy option. The only status you cannot get rid of through retreat is Char, and I do not think full heal energy deals with this condition either.

It should be interesting to see how the 2 color deck works. I know Flareon has colorless attacks, but the fire energy and the fire energy should make for an interesting combo.

It will be interesting to see how this compares to the Status/Overpower Deck that Zak and I are going to crack out after we test some more. Usual team combo of big fire and status. We will see.

Can't wait to see you there!

OK,

Here are some changes made:

Dkates:

I didn't change the Shuckle, in team battle I don't want to be dependent on the flip. Missing an attack in team because you missed a flip is a killer. In team you have to be able to damage every time. One basis of this deck is to be able to hit with one or more effects every time. I'm not sure Shuckle is right, but he stays for now. I'm also not completely happy with Scyther, as he's a hitter, not a an effects guy. But the weakness is different from the main line, and he's not a bad hitter....

As for the Oracle -- it does pretty good without Bill in setting up Player A.

I do like the Warp Energy idea though. Also you're right about the Traveling Salesman. Originally I had some Fire Cubes in 'A'. I thought the Cubes were considered tools. However after reading them, it's obvious they're not. All gone. Also I now have another Entei.

Meg45:
I'm using the SK Flareon. Probably the only attack that I'll be using is:

(R) Singe -- The Defending Pokemon is burned.

There's a decent chance that I can burn on the first turn with the Energy Evolution Eevee.

And I'm looking forward to seeing you guys again. Maybe we can get a team game during some downtime when we get there.
