This is simple. I took a break from playing but now I'm back into it. So, will my Gatr deck stand up to the new decks everyone is building, and is it still in the modified format.

Pokemon:17
4 Totodile
3 Croconaw
3 Feraligatr
3 Cleffa
2 Igglybuff
2 Smeargle

Trainers:26
4 Professor Elm
4 Focus Band
4 Misty's Wrath
4 Double Gust
3 Secret Mission
3 Time Capsule
2 Healing Field
2 Nightly Garbage Run

Energy:17
17 Water

Everyone knows the strategy of a Gatr deck, so I'm not gonna explain it, but will it stand up to the newer decks out there. Also, I don't have any of the cards after NEO. Work it.

Boy, you talk about a deck that was great in its day, but now must resign - GATR.

The trainers today do not allow you to easily dump water in your discard (except Juggler), and there is no way to keep Water in your discard (trash exchange) except for NR Parasect.

Right now there is TOO much Big Grass to make Gatr a threat. Look at the Professor Champions in Origins, at least 3 of the top 9 decks were Grass (1 Beedrill Sky, 1 Meg/Eggs, 1 Venu/Eggs), and that implies that I can't think of any others.

Too much in there that will get poned these days.

Gatr was great in his day, but now he must retire
Don't worry there's still Kingdra and Kabutops
To help hold back the fire

Boy megs, getting poetic in your old age.

Hoping to see more of you try Gatr decks, please, bring them to Gencon, please.....

Meganium45 (faced 2 fire decks and NO gatr decks at origins, still got 9th with straight grass grrrr..)

There are nine cards not legal in Modified in this Modified-format deck. It's probably best just to retire this deck, but let me try fix this problem:

-4 Misty's Wrath (Gym set)
-3 Secret Mission (Gym set also)
-2 Nightly Garbage Run (Rocket)

+1 Time Capsule
+1 Healing Field
+3 Mail from Bill
+4 Neo cards of your choice

Carrington yur fix makes no sense.
4 Time Capsule You should never play time capsule never mind 4 of them. Play 1 Town Volunteers.

Ray u should go to pokeschool and look at all the new cards. The only way Feraligatr will work is if u use Parasect from Neo Revalation because of the pokemon power. It keeps all the water energy in the discard pile.

My single favorite deck ever, and will always be!!!

OK, there's a lot of stuff that's illigal in Modified format, so I'll just take out the Wrath, Secret Mission, and NGR (9). Now, for the deck fix.

Pokemon:
Iggly and Smeargle were good in their time, but there is no longer room for them in this deck. They are dropped for 2 E2 Paras and 2 NR Parasect. Also, I would suggest running 2 Genesis G8r and 1 E1 Tsunami G8r, as well as a good mix of the Genesis and E1 Totodiles and Croconaws, for some weakness protection. I especially like the E1 Croc over his Genesis cousin because he's much easier to play around with, with the 1 retreat cost and all. now, just take out a Totodile for a Suicune, and we're all done.

Trainers:
Now, things get interesting. I would drop those Time Capsules for 1 Town Volunteers (11), and drop the Focus Bands for 3 Gold Berries (12). Now, we add in 4 Juggler (8), 4 Trader (4) and 3 Copycat (1) to make the deck run faster. The two healing field are dropped for one Undersea Ruins, which goes along with the new Tsunami G8r very nicely, and is also a good counter to Muk (2). I would also drop down on the Double Gust by 1 (3).

Energy:
With the 3 extra spaces, add in 1 Metal, to be used solely for the E1 G8r, and 2 extra Waters, b/c you need to have 11 in the discard to maximize your attack strength.

I still think that this is one of the most powerful decks in the current Modified, if it is built and played correctly. At the recent Chicago SBZ2, I think that 2 of the top 8 decks were G8rs (and 9th place was as well...that was me...) Megs can correct me on this, as he was there judging.
