I really like this version of Steelix in standard. It works pretty well. Here's the deck:
Pokemon:16 4x Psyduck (Fossil) 3x Dark Golduck 3x Onix 3x Steelix 3x Cleffa
Energy:16 4x Metal Energy 12x Psychic Energy
Trainers:28 3x Professor Oak 3x Professor Elm 3x Lass 3x Computer Search 4x Item Finder 3x Energy Charge 3x GoW 2x Eco Gym 2x NGR 2x Gold Berry
You simply use Headache (One of my favorite attacks) until you build up all the energy you want on Steelix, then you bust out an Eco Gym and a Lass and watch them suffer. You also back up Steelix's weakness with Dark Golduck witch is really just an added bonus.

I've been using a modified deck like this for a while and it pwns. Really good, not much to change.
-2 Psychic +2 Rainbow Like extra Metal without the effect, and can replace Psychic too!
-1 Energy Charge -3 Professor Elm +1 Professor Oak +2 Pichu +1 Gold Berry Professor Elm isn't good in a deck that uses a lot of trainers. It slows the deck down. If you discard something with your Oaks you can get it back with IF or NGR, or Search for a new one. Steelix should have at least 3 GB, and Ecogyms with 2 Charge should be enough. Pichu is for Slowking and... anything else. Good luck. [ April 11, 2002, 08:41 AM: Message edited by: BronzeGrowlithe ]

-4 Psychic Energy +4 Dark Energy
I think you need 2 DCEs in there for Steelix but I don't know what to take out 4 them.

I don't like this wrinkle to protect Steelix from ER and R decks. Headache is a (trainer) barrier analogous to Base Mewtwo's and needs to stay "on" to confer any protection from ER. There are too many Babies in today's game to allow you to rely on this kind of defense long enough to Lass.
Dark Golduck does not provide enough speed or endurance to protect against R Pokemon. If you evolve to D Golduck on Turn 3 and get 1 shot off, you'll either run out of your 60HP or get ER'd and then killed. It'll be 3 more turns to get another loaded.
I would find a quicker W partner which can take advantage of DCE and protect your M energies with just more trainer disruption.

Aaaargh, people just don't understand these days. Babies CAN be taken from the active position, and Psyducks CAN be replaced. The Golduck is just a bonus. I decided to take out the Energy Charges for 2 Fossil Gastlys and another Gold Berry.
