Ever since worlds, every deck I've seen/heard about has contained slowking. I hate slowking. I hate playing it, cuz I always get crappy flips, and hate playing against it, because against me, 1 slowking = one sided dark plume.
I'm aiming to take 'em out.
Slowking = Food (MMF)
4 Gastly - Destiny 4 Dark Haunter 3 Dark Gengar 3 Cleffa 1 Elekid 1 Tyrogue 1 Misdreavus
4 Elm 4 Bill 4 DGoW 2 TR Hideout 4 Gold Berry 3 Mary 3 Bill's Teleporter 3 Trader 1 Time Capsule
14 Psychic Energy 1 Darkness Energy - Surprise, or Two Hitting Enteicargos, or for making tyrogue OHKO Flaffys.
I'm slightly worried about restant stuff, I'm depending on rogueing anything colorless, and using misdreavus on anything dark/steel...but I dunno yet if that'll be enough.
If they play slowking, I should have it...60+ sleep, and if they wanna DGoW out of it, gengar's safe.
The deck's hardly got any testing, and I've only played dark gengar in MF for a lil bit, so I'd really appreciate any help y'all can give...thankx.
-------------------- What? They banned slowking? Good Job. :)

I agree, Slowking was just used too much in the worlds. Your on the right track so far but I think your deck is missing a key anti-Slowking card, Igglybuff. Your deck is running 28 Trainer cards and a 2nd turn Slowking (which is not hard to do) can be a stickler. But wait, PICHU!!! Iggly's worst nightmare. Oh well, just deal with the threat or Slowking will likely stop you from playing your needed Trainers. And if Slowking's popularity continues, this is the deck that I will be playtesting really soon.
Pokemon (20) 3 Gastly (Neo Destiny) 3 Dark Haunter 3 Dark Gengar 3 Cleffa 2 Iggly 1 Tyrogue 1 Pichu 1 Pikachu (Neo Genesis) 2 Murkrow 1 Promo Mew (Lilly Pad)
Trainer (24) 4 Pokemon Trader 2 The Boss's Way 4 Professor Elm 4 Bill 3 Focus Band 2 Double Gust 2 The Rocket's Hideout 1 Energy Stadium 1 Time Capsule 1 Pokemon Tower
Energy (16) 10 Psychic Energy 3 Darkness Energy 2 Recycle 1 Full Heal Energy
Strategy:
Quick D. Gengar build is a must. Use Trader, Boss's Way and Cleffa to do it. Quickly build another one after that. Pull In with D. Gengar and put damage on your opponent's Pokemon (as many as you can get away with) and then hunt them down on the bench with Murkrow.
Double Gust can be problematic but with careful benching of your Pokemon, you should be able to get around it. Hmmmm, maybe I need to play Slowking too. Heh!!!
Hold on to the Igglys and play it as needed only. Beware of Pichu, including your own. Quick KO of your opponent's Pichu is a must when you have Iggly(s) in play. To get around the Pichu's baby flip, Double Gust and Pull In will do the trick.
Well, that's it for right now and good luck to both of us.

Hey Shrew, First off, slowking was not in every deck. From my other post "I was on the deck check team on Sunday. I compiled a list of what decks made the cut to the second day in each division. In the 10-, there were 7 kingdra, 4 fire, 4 slowking, 1 TTar, 2 amphy, 1 charizard/king/alakazam, 3 dark blastoise, 1 gatrsec, and 1 steelix/kubutops. In the 11-14 there were 10 kingdra, 1 fire, 12 slowking, 2 dark blastoise, 1 espeon, 4 dark gatr, 2 crobat/muk, 1 dark gatr sreelix, and 1 dark ttar. " However, it took both the 10- and 11-14. Shrew, you know I play king and I can tell you that your deck will eat kings, but loose to alot of others. The deck that almost always beat me was e.vbelle/dark plume. This deck has been formated out of modified. Dark Gengar beat most of my decks except my ghost proof slowking which included smeargle, murkrow, and FHE or my steelix/slowking with fhe & metal. Removing chaos gym really helped slowking IMO. Dark Gengar/slowking also gives most king deck fits. Strait Gengar has been played at Great Oaks MMF tournies but it has not done well. Maybe with an increase of king, it will fare better. As far as your resistance problem, I would add 2-4 magnifiers. I'll let you decide how to fit them in. In addition,I would ditch 1 Elekid 1 Tyrogue 1 Misdreavus 1 grape nrg for 2 murkrows and 2 darks. The latest king tech to counter your gengar deck is scoop-up and pokemon center. No one except maybe DMTM powers up king so centers work. Scoop up gets kings out of locks and sleep issues. I expect smeargle, snorlax, FHE, and krow to start appearing in king decks to fight ghost. This format has not settled as yet. Frankly, if you want to beat king and have a good chance of beating other decks, I would play Muk. But then again, maybe you can make this work. I'm testing one of these decks too. I'm sick of slowking, and considering that I have to fight the winner of the 10- division every week, and the fact that everyone is copying the darn thing, well I have to run a don king counter.
Here's my version of Dark Gengar, but it would proabably be easier to use muk/crobat.
19 pokemon 4 gastly (fossil, because donphan can kill destiny in two hits.) 3 dark haunter 3 dark gengar 3 cleffa 2 misdreavus (for steelix and resistance) 2 lily pad mew (no more evo) 2 murkrow (hehehe, slowking lock)
25 trainer 4 bill 4 elm 3 double gust (only three because of dark gengar) 2 gold berry 2 focus band 3 trader 3 bosses way 2 rocket hideout 1 time capsule
16 energy 13 psychic 3 dark
BTW, I was helping psychodad do the deck checks on sunday. The fact that slowking decks won both divisions is still a factor in countering it. Just because everyone ran kingdra did not mean that it was successful.

Actually, the SI Jigglypuff (Tepmting Eyes) is pretty good against Slowking, and Lily Pad Mew is okay against Steelix. Jigglypuff can be 'Rogued, but you have plenty of anti-rogue with the Dark Gengar line. Steelix will be pretty hard to actually K.O., though, since there's usually plenty of F.H. energy in a Steelix deck. Maybe you could throw in a Unown M? I know it's Murkrow bait, but you probably wouldn't have to put it down unless you saw a Steelix. Promo Smeargle could work, if you could get the flips. I'll try a decklist.
4 Gastly 3 Dark Haunter 3 Dark Gengar 3 Cleffa 2 Murkrow 1 SI Jigglypuff 1 Promo Mew 1 Tyrogue 1 Unown M/ Promo Smeagle
4 Elm 4 Bill 3 DG 3 Band (I know you don't like them, but...) 3 Trader 2 Rocket's Hideout 2 Gold Berry 2 Bosses Way 1 Time Capsule
4 Darkness 13 Psychic
Focus Band works much better with all of you Poké's having fairly low H.P. Who knows, you might get a heads.=/ You can pull out a Steelix in waiting, then slowly kill them with Murkrow and Unown M. Mew can give you a few valuable turns against a big, fast evo deck like a Kabulix or Entei/Cargo. D. Gengar is the bane of Muk, Crobat, and most babies, too, so that's a plus.
Hope I helped. ![[Smile]](smile.gif) [ August 07, 2002, 05:08 PM: Message edited by: BronzeGrowlithe ]
