Don't laugh at this question, please! We're kinda new at this.....

What are some powerful basic Pokemon that would be good for a sudden death battle? I'm trying to help my son build one, but I can't think of any other than Chansey. Thanks!!

[pileson] [bow] [teach] [cloud9]

Electabuzz, Tyrogue, Hitmonchan, Sneasel, and if you're playing a Grass deck, Scyther.

Since this really does not follow the Deck Help and Strategy guidelines, i'll move it to Card Rulings and Strategies. Look for further replies there. [Tap]

Powerful Basic Pokemon...

I think the Universal definition for that is something along the lines of High HP, good damage, quickly, for little energy. Therefor, if it needs to be comboed with another Pokemon, I doubt it's a BBP.

Scyther, Electabuzz, Rocket's Zapdos, Hitmonchan, Sneasel, Tyrogue and Erika's Jigglypuff are the only ones that come immediately to mind.

I doubt Articuno and Lapras could be considered enough... Either not enough damage, or not quick enough. They're each plagued by one or the other.

Lesse.... if you have Metal Energy, you could consider Steelix. Most of the other ones have been mentioned. Some age-old advice I can give you is that Base Set 2 Alakazam and Base Set 2 Chansey are a good combo.

...Uhh... "Powerful Basic Pokemon good for a sudden death battle" doesn't envelope Steelix (A stage 1) OR a damage swap strategy in any way...

Grass-Rocket's Scyther for a touch of evil by means of stalling,

Water-Lapras,Suicune(Neo R holo)one for a wall and speed and the other for status confusion.

Fire-Magmar(Fossil)stall,Rocket's Moltres(keeps coming back,excellent attack too)

Electric-Rocket's Zapdos-Energy Manipulation(sp?),Electabuzz(Base Set)quick damage,Raikou(Neo R holo)Bench Manipulation.

Fighting-Rocket's Hitmonchan, strike back abiilty,Sudowoodo(Neo Gen)quick low energy attack and some strike back. Shuckle's(Neo R)Power is a nasty defense and possible good stall.

Psychic-Mr.Mime(Jungle)same as Neo R Shuckle but stronger,Jynx(Base Set)quick and can be vicious when damage adds up. Rocket's Mewtwo, sheer versetilty and deadly if the flips are going your way, other Mewtwo variants(mostly Promos)work by themselves and very well too.

Normal-Farfetch'd(Base Set)Speed,Lickitung(Jungle)low Energy attacks and good stall. Tauros(Jungle)once it's get going quite unstoppable with Rampage,Ditto-natch,and that's my version of powerful basics. Hope I helped.

I have had a lot of luck with AQ Zapdos...the power gets in the way, but high HP, resistance to fighting (Bad Tyrouge, no biscuit) and Plasma is a decent attack. Not too mention crystal energies work great on it
