The different Cubes with the Aquapolis set all have an appropriate energy symbol of thier type. If a Fighting Cube was placed on Shuckle (NR, Fighting Pokemon with two grass energies attached), does this mean the fighting cube would not work because it needs the fighting energy from a fighting Pokemon it is attached to.

Also, I would guess that only a rainbow energy that was already attached to Surfing Pikachu would work with the Lightening Cube, or you'd also have to attach a water energy for this trainer to work. yes?

Right. The Fighting Cube 01 costs 1 Fighting energy to use, so you need to have at least one attached to your active pokemon.

For surfing pikachu with 1 Water energy and 1 Rainbow energy attached, you could use Lightning Cube 01 because the Rainbow energy card provides Lightning energy. When you discharge, you would discard the Rainbow energy card because it counts as a Lightning energy card.

I have a good question about TM's. The question is:

What if something were to change a Pokémon's type to something else? Example: I have Gloom as my Active Pokémon and the Defending Pokémon is the Promo Smeargle. If Smeargle uses Paint on Gloom and changes Gloom's type from {G} to {L}, could I attach Lightning Cube 01 to Gloom sice it would be considered a {L} Pokémon because of Paint? (Also know this assumes that Gloom would have the correct Energy to use Discharge.)

I don't have the Smeargle card, but I think you could. Lightning Cube 01 says:
"Attach this card to 1 of your (L) Pokemon in play."

So I see no problem with using it in that situation, or likewise using both Water Cube and Lightning Cube on the Lanturn that can change its type (Submerge, I think).
