I don't know if this has been asked before, although it probably has, and it is very simple, but if you use Moltres's Burning Tail from SK with 2 Rainbow on it would you have to discard the energy or would you just do 60 damage?Thanx!

Since the Rainbow Energy provides and Moltres quote: Flip a coin. If tails, discard a Energy card attached to Moltres.
Means you would discard a Rainbow Energy card if Rainbow Energy was the only card providing energy.

I disagree, it has long since been ruled that if an effect specifies " Energy card" then it must be that particuar card, whereas just " Energy" would mean anything that counts as , which coul dbe a R Energy or a Rainbow. THe same thig goes for the AQ Scizor, it specifies "M Energy", meaning it's attack could do more damage if there were rainbow Energy attached.

You're forgetting an all important word with the rule you've stated - "Basic" as in "Basic Energy card" (reference Rainbow Burn Ho-oh). Since a card that provides X type of energy is treated as an X type energy card, Rainbow gets Discarded as it produces R energy (Reference Charmander's Gather Fire (TR), Wild Growth Meganium (Gen), Kingdra's Water Cyclone(AQ), among lots of others). (notice it is NOT treated as an X type of basic energy card).

Um... no. If it isn't a R energy, how can Moltres attack? It needs RCC. The Converted card gets treated as a R energy card (but not a Basic R energy card, a Special R energy card). So that Converted card gets Discarded.

When an attack says ' basic energy cards', it means the amount of that actual energy card, not a different energy providing that type.
When an attack says ' energy cards' it refers to the amount of any cards providing that specific energy, but doesn't take into account the amount of energy provided by each card, example boost energy.
When an attack says ' energy ' it refers to any card providing thats specific energy, and any amount of that energy.
I hope this is clear now for everyone...
refers to any type, not specifically colorless [ July 26, 2003, 08:13 AM: Message edited by: WizPoG_Pop ]

Basic Energy is the term given to the non-Special Energy (R, G, W, L, F, P) that you have no limit on how many you can have in your deck. They also have no real name, unlike SPecial Energy, like Rainbow or Metal, since they have a name, you can have only 4 of them in the deck.
