The Hitmonchans are "play as they read"...so the HP depends upon which card(s) you have.

You play each card as written. So, if you have a Base Set 'Chan on your Bench and a Promo 'Chan as your active, the Benched one has 70 HP and the active one has 60 HP.

And yes all Rainbow Energy is now played as placing a damage counter instead of doing damage.

No, it is a reprint. There was just a mix-up somewhere resulting in the lowered HP. You can use the Base Set/2 Hitmonchan (and obviously most who us 'Chan will) in Modified. FOr ease of use, it has been rule "play it as written", menaing that the new BoP version will unfortunately only have 60HP, while the old Base Set/2 versions will have 70HP, as it is written on those cards. This is similar to Dark Vileplume: the holo-version is weak to Fire, as it should be, but the non-holo version is weak to Fighting. They ruled to "play it as written" there, since it would be too hard to keep it straight for most people. Only when a typo seriously alters a card do they errata it. Some examples are Blaine's Charizard, who has a Fighting Energy requiement instead of a Fire Energy Requirement for one of its attacks, and Rocket's Minefield Gym, whic left out how many damage counters are to be placed on the Pokemon it damages.

Minefield Gym places 2 Damage Counters, not one.

*notes on hitmonchan winner

(previous ruling from WOTC)

when you use hitmonchan base or winner play as written

(now the ruling)

hitmonchan play as 60 hp in MMF ,if you use hitmonchan winner in standard unlimited format still 60hp unless you use base chan then 70 hp

why 60hp for hitmonchan in mmf although wotc says play as written?

1st reason

player A plays winner chan and player B plays base chan, player A will assume that it is unfair to him as player B's hitmonchan hp is 70 instead of 60hp

2nd reason

remember the LC rule? you can use the old card to replace the new one ,BUT you must follow the new card ruling! that means if you use base set potion(which you can choose to remove 1 dmg counter)to replace the LC/Ex potion, you must follow the latest rule and remove 2 or 1 if any or else you cant use that card. This is the same thing to hitmonchan ,if you use the base chan you must follow the new rule which is the winner chan so it is going to be 60hp

Jess: Just remember, there isn't total logic to this game. Also, remember that the othe cases were intentional changes.

They only erratta the card if it cannot be played or would be broken as is.

Minefield Gym could not be played without indicating the amount of damage a basic would recieve.

Non-holo Dark Vileplume could still be played despite the incorrect Fighting weakness.
