With all the hype of this card and its highly rated review over at Pojo, is this card over hyped? Should it replace Time Capsule in modified? Should it replace Nightly Garbage Run in Unlimited?
1st things 1st this is a great card. Its advantages over Time Capsule is that your opponent doesnt get to replenish up to 5 cards in his/her deck when you use it. Downside its a supporter therefore not letting you use any more supporters for that turn. Downside to Time Capsule is that no more Trainers are allowed after its use. But with TV you can use it then Elm to get what you need to use possibly that turn.
In Unlimited it gives you 2 more cards over NGR.
So will TV be the replace all for NGR and TC?

That's what I thought but the card text says 5 not up to 5. Which is I think a turnoff especially if you need to shuffle your deck even though you have nothing in the discard pile via NGR in a tight pinch. Don't laugh that's happened to me several times recently. Volunteers is a nice card but too badly worded for my benefit but that's me. So until then it's going to be NGR all the way with me. I'll use it in my unlimited deck, NOT as if I use SO many supporters (oak/elm, etc.)

Does it replace Time Capsule in Modified? Pretty much, unless you are already playing a lot of supporters.
Does it replace NGR in unlimited? No, but it helps it if you need that much recycling.

John Kulp - True the card says 5, but it was ruled in the chat that you play it as - Up to 5. Just like Time Capsule in that way. Here it is.
Q. Do you HAVE to pick out exactly 5 cards for Town Volunteers, or can it be UP to 5 or nothing at all? A. Yup, it works like Time Capsule did. If you have 5 you MUST choose 5, if you have less than 5 you can still play it and choose all of what you do have. You can't CHOOSE to pull less than 5 if you have that many. Really? That change things except in my two boxes of Aqua I got like I think 6 of them. Can't very well put them in all of my many, many decks but I can put them in some . I thank you very much old man.

Seems to me, old man, that they are saying that it is a Time Capsule. I.E. You choose to get 5 or 0 cards from the discard pile. If you have less than 5 of the appropriate cards in you discard at the time you play Town Volunteers, you get as many as possible, which might be 1,2,3 or 4, depending on what you have in your discard.

Tahna - correct. It works just like a Time Capsule only your opponent doesn't get to use the effect of the card.
So there's no mis-understandings. You can use TV even if you only have 1, 2, 3 or 4 available cards to get. You have to take all that are available, up to the maximum of 5.
Yes this card replaces Time Capsule in a better way over everything except it's only minor drawback of being a supporter. And even that part of it's better than Time Capsule because you can still play Trainers after you play TV's.

Does Town Volunteers replace Time Capsule?
Most definitely, especially after the ruling in chat. TV now does the same thing as TC only you can still play non-Supporter Trainers (as opposed to no Trainers at all) and not help your opponent.
Does Town Volunteers replace Nightly Garbage Run?
Depends on the deck I suppose. If you run a lot of other Supporters (and there are a few universally useful ones like Pokemon Nurse so far), you might want to stick with NGR. Or if you need to play several at once for some bizarre situation (like needing to get back 6+ basic energy in one turn). Other then that, I guess it does.
Just my ever so humble opinion. ![[Smile]](../tcg/smile.gif)
