People at my league say that when you play a Supporter, you keep it next to your active pokemon until the end of your turn, then when your turn is over, you do what the card says. Aren't you supposed to play it like any normal trainer, then discard it at the end of your turn?

I posted this at pojo, and they agreed with me, but the people at my league wanted it to be "offical" thats why I'm posting this here, can a Professor please reply to this to make it and official ruling at my league...Thanks

You do what the card says immediately, then leave it there until the end of your turn. THen you discard it.

the reason it is placed next to your active pokemon is to show that you used a supporter this turn (only one supporter played per player per turn). so, when you play a supporter, it is placed next to your active pokemon, you do what the card says, then discard the supporter when your turn is over. hope this helps clear up your confusion.

I think you can use it at any time during your turn, as long as you put it down beside your Active pokemon when you do so, and if I'm not wrong the card text reads that you have to discard it at the end of your turn whether you used it or not, so you can put it down and not use it, if you wish.

Don't assume that because something says to do something if something happens, that it is ok for that something to happen...

In short, you can't play it and not use it. If you put it down, you use it. If you can't play it (say you already used a Supporter that turn), you can't put it down.

FTC:

Q. As far as supporters go, when you play one it tells you to lay it next to your active, first, does it stay attached to that active you put it on, or does it come back when they're benched, 2nd, Can you play down a supporter, and use the effect for later in your turn, like laying one down, elming and then using it, or does the card go into effect immediately?
A. The Supporter is not actually attached to your active Pokemon. It's just used as a marker to show that you have already played a Supporter that turn. You use the Supporter when you play it. You merely lay it down next to the Active Pokemon so you don't forget that you played one that turn. (Sep 19, 2002 WotC Chat, Q415 & Q473)

So you use the card as soon as you play it.
