Have a look on Octillery of the Pokemon E- Aquapolis expansion:

POKEBODY: Suction Cups: As long as Octillery is your Active Pokemon, whenever the Defending Pokemon retreats, discard all Energy attached to the Defending Pokemon when it goes to the Bench.
WOAH!! But there's more:
WCC Smokescreen: If the Defending Pokemon tries to attack during your opponent's next turn, your opponent flips a coin. If tails, that attack does nothing. 40

So if you are losing Octillery could save you. Suction cups cannot be desactivated so if that Pokemon tries to go to the bench for safe, all Energy goes to the discard pile. Smokescreen it's a very decent attack with 40 damage and the coin flip for attacking. It has a very low cost too (1 water, 2 Colorless).
See you next time!

Does Suction Cups replace the original retreat cost, or do we still need enough energy to pay that? In other words, does it make a pokemon with no energy a free retreater? I'm guessing not, but the card is kind of ambiguous.

When Retreating, you must still pay the Retreat Cost. Octillary also makes you Discard any remaining energy cards attached to that Pokémon. So if your Steelix needs to Retreat, and you use Balloon Berry to pay the Retreat cost, all energies attached to Steelix get Discarded by Suction Cups.

Course i'd just use Switch..... [Evil Smirk]

Too many tourney-worthy decks today are using Double Gust and Warp Energy to make Suction Cups less of a threat. JMO.

On the other hand, if you can get enough, it could be very good in limited.

I agree...Octillery, IMO is one of the better AQ Pokemon because of its "lose your energy PP" and smokescreen. However, as SteveP pointed out, there are just too many cards to counter this affect.

I used Octillery in my SBZ deck. I've never seen so many Warp Points, Double gusts, Warp Energy and Switch cards played! [Eek!] These cards really took away much of Octillery's strategy. Also, not only do all these cards get your opponent out of paying for the retreat, they also defeat the effect of making your opponent flip for smokescreen.

Though with that said, it is still a very fun card to play! I'd like to try him in a deck with Noctowl or AQ Seaking. I think Seaking's Undulate attack is better then smokescreen. Yes, it's 10 less damage, but the affect of Undulate is harder to defeat then smokescreen.

If your tired of dealing with free retreating babies, try use Broken Ground Gym.

*Actually Spectreon*

With all the Double Gust and Warp Points, ect. give your opponent a real reason to want to retreat. there are only so many of these cards in decks, generaly around 7 or 8 (most decks, 3-4 DG, 2-3 Switch, 2 Warp). Now imagine at the beginning of every turn they were poisoned. How many times can they get away with not actually retreting? I suggest (as I have many times now) running EX Vileplume with Octillery. Poison from the bench while Smokescrreen/Suction cups really makes them hurt. They cant allways get back to bench without actually retreating, and in modified, AQ Ariados can hurt them too (though it effectsyou to), slows down babies and other free retreaters, and makes it that much mre difficult.

What about running D. TTar with him. Just a thought. Also, I could see use for him with D. Kazam in Unlimited, or any other Pokemon that the attack allows you to switch the active. I think that this card is viable, but as usual, in the right deck. Hmm, D. Plume/ Aq. Oct. anyone.
