With porygons conversion if that pokemon you use it on has a resistance to the type oyu just changed it to how does that work? And if they bench it is the weakness that you changed it to still there? If they evolve that pokemon does it still have that weakness you changed it to?

If the Defending Pokémon Porygon has used Conversion on is Resistant to the Weakness you now give it, when it is attacked by that type Weakness is applied before Resistance so damage would be doubled for Weakness and then -30 for Resistance.

Effects of attacks (except those that place Counters on the Defending) get removed when the effected Pokémon is Benched, Evolves, Devolves, or Leaves Play. So Conversion's Weakness change goes away when the Defending Pokémon is Benched or Evolves.

How long does coversion stay active? if I know Porygon out, is the effect of the conversion still present? What if I retreat?

Conversion lasts on the Defending Pokémon forever until it gets Benched, leaves play, or is Evolved/Devolved. If Porygon is Benched, is Knocked Out, leaves play, etc. the Conversion effect stays on the Defending Pokémon since it's an effect that's placed on the Defending Pokémon and isn't dependent upon Porygon sticking around.
