If you have a Neo discovery Metapod out can you search your deck for butterfree even if you get tails on Hatch.

Yes, you can. See, the "If heads, remove all damage counters from butterfree." THEN...

This signifies that the removing counters on a heads is COMPLETELY seperate from the searching effect of his power. You get to search on Tails.

What, like the pro-archetype attitude is supposed to be restricted to THIS company, and THIS TCG?
All card games run on archetypes. Magic is 90% archetypes. YGO is 90% archetypes. Pokemon was, for the most part, all archetypes before and during MF2. Pokemon will be archetype-based during MF3. Pokemon will be archetype based when it is under Nintendo.

Viva la unoriginality!

Not according the the compendium, CPU:

quote:
* MT Mike asked me to announce two [Ed. Note: actually three] more rulings reversals. Dark Pupitar and Discovery Metapod have attacks that have effects that should be tied to the result of the flip. Both effects are tied to the coin flip, regardless of how the card is worded. So, [if] you flip tails, you do NOTHING. So, Explosive Evolution will only completely work on the result of a heads. And Metapod's Hatch is the same way. Same goes for Blastoise's Jet Stream Poke-POWER. (Oct 17, 2002 WotC Chat, post-Q156)

It's a new clarification to the ruling, so confusion is understandable.

I wonder if this will get rewritten in future cards where a comma gets placed after the "do this if you get heads" and the "then do this". Having them in two separate statements is kinda confusing, thanks for the compendium reference though.

Archetypes? What, is originality becoming obsolete?
