Hi I need a reprint ruling. I was scratced from a local Modified tourney for playing an old Full heal of mine because it was worded slightly differently.

I belive the Special condition additions rule applys here. Please back me up...thank you.

Full Heal was reprinted in the Legendary Collection.

The reprint rule is that you can play the old cards that are copies of cards currently legal in modified, with the provision that you use the new text.

From what you have said so far there is no reason for you to have been ejected from a modified tournament because you were using an old full heal card.

some people brag about their tournament results, me I'm gonna brag??? about what players have managed to get past me LOL

'legal stalling' : game loss at least
'only joking' on misreported match results: DQ Yep its that serious!
The prize swap penalty as it applies to shuffling.

It appears that the Judge made two errors here.

1. You should have been allowed to play the old copy using the new reprints text. This is in the DCI rules.
2. Even if you were playing an illegal card, a prize swap and deck correction would have been the appropriate penalty, not disqualification!

tsk, tsk, to the Judge.

Well he wanted me to chage my deck but I wouldn't do it becase I knew the old Full Heal was legal under the reprint rule. Oh and Full heal Energy was reprinted in LC...not the trainer itself. Full Heal was reprited in Expidition with "Special Conditions" in the Text instead of "Confused, Asleep, Paralized or Poisoned" Thanks for confirming that those guys are just plain stupid and nitpicky.

Special Conditions- Confused, Asleep, Paralized, Poisoned and Burned.

I was just adding burned to the old one wich I'm sure is within the rules thanks to you...

Burned is indeed a special condition, so yes, that's fine.

What you could do next time is print off the WotC card oracle (availible in the league section) for that set or the official set list (in the products section). If any disputes arise, you can prove yourself. Of course, that should really be the judge's job, but it never hurts to prepare.

from a local Modified tourney
The rules for judging only applies to DCI sanctioned tournaments. But since you said that you were playing in a local tournament, they can do as they wish. They can even throw you out of the tournament because you're wearing denim.
Ofcourse, I don't think this is a fair thing to do.

Of course, any venue which hopes to bring people back for the next tournament should maintain reasonable rules, so just because they can do that does not mean they should (as you pointed out). Even in non-sanctioned tournaments, I use DCI standards and practices when I head judge.

It may have been a local tourney, but he said that it was Modified format.
Modified format is defined by DCI rules about what cards are allowed and what are not allowed.
If they are going to call it Modified, it needs to obey those rules.

There is no copyright on the name "Modified". I can call my daughter "Modified" if i wanted. (Not that I will...)

But ehm, we're getting offtopic. If you show the Compendium rulings to the store, they just will have to believe you. But it would be too late anyway... [Frown]
