Recently at Orlando qt April 13th in top 4. My oppenet eeeked while he was drawing 7 cards I drew my card. Our judge said I had to put a prize down and he draw a prize. Which I only had 1 prize left at the end of the game and i lost. My question is when my oppenet eeeeeks and i draw my card do i have to put down a prize card and my oppenet draw a prize card.

Hmm, so you drew a card while your opponent was completing an Eeeeeeek. If that was the extent of it and this was not a repeated error, you should have (at most) gotten a caution. Technically, you are supposed to wait until your opponent finishes Eeeeeeeking to start your turn, but such an infraction is hardly worthy of a prize/prize penalty. Is there anything more to it?

Yeah...a caution was appropriate there...IMO. The prize swap (which resulted in game loss) was waay too harsh.

Bommer: I regret to tell you that the best you can hope for is a reprimand of the judge involved. You really should have appealed.

At the CSC, I was told that as a sub-judge, I was not to give any penalty greater than a warning. This is a very good example as to why.

Bommer, you should at least send an e-mail to the dci explaining your side. That game penalty goes on your permanent record, you realize.

At the CSC my daughter got hit with a prize penalty on this situation also. The opponent EEked, and she drew before he was finished. The opponent called over the judge and the judge awarded him a prize.

My daughter didn't make much of a fuss, as the game was almost over at the time and that was the only prize he drew in the game. However that still seemed like a very heavy price for drawing too soon, especially with no warning first.

i member at WCSTS i did that repeadtly (about 3 times) and i'm like (to the kid) "man what's ur problem" judge just gave me a verbal caution and we contiued... i personally think that the ruling that they have is pretty darn crappy for getting anything for that.

If you did it 3 times, i'd give you the prize swap penalty. It is not your turn. Your opponent it busy drawing their 7 cards from Eeeeeeeking and is not paying attention to what you are doing. Therefor your opponent may go "It's your turn, draw a card." The whole reason for this ruling is to get you to slow down and not play so fast, so that everyone can see what's going on. While you're drawing your card, who's to say your opponent didn't draw 8 cards by mistake?

While judging the 10- finals at the ECSTS, ddbpr was in a race with the player on his side to the table to see who would get to the draw pile first - him or the player as every time the player on my side Eeeeeeeked, the player on his side drew his card before the Eeeeeeeking had finished. The race to the draw pile (or slapping his hand if he beat him there) was easier than giving him a penalty (since it was the finals).

BJJ, I seem to remember something very similar while ddbpr and I were judging the 10- at the WCSTS.

IF what Bommer Man states is true, the penalty was way over the line. If all the player does is draw a card and wait for the opponent to finish Eeeeeeeking, then a caution is the only thing that is warranted. Prize penalties should only be given out by the head judge, and hopefully the head judge at the tournament would know better than to administer such a penalty for such a minor infraction.

For the judge in this case: To quote Bon Jovi "You give JUDGE a bad name" [Big Grin]
