The 1st promo for the Battlezone League is none other than Base Set Electabuzz. Now this is one card that I would have never expected to see play in the Modified format. Base Buzz is still one of the best cards in Unlimited. How will he fare in Modified? I think the main reason for this is the heavy Water evo's that are mainly weak to Lightning. He is a killer to those decks. Can anyone think of a splashable Grass Pokemon preferably basic to cover resistance to Electric that fits into the new modified? Also does this mean we can break out our old copies of Buzz?

Electabuzz can be used once the promo "hits the streets" (presumably WotC will be dropping battlezone kits from helicopters [Wink] )

Well, It does have formidible opposition in terms of Tyrogue. Let's put it this way-my Light Golducks are not quivering in fear.

I've been thinking of a modified haymaker deck with this card as well. How about with Scyther from Discovery or the Promo Scyther, and the E1 Mewtwo or the E1 Hitmonlee. I think adding Dark Energies and Strength Charms would be unexpected, you could add 20 damage, then retreat next turn to get rid of the Dark or potion and use it for an extra 10 damage. Could be formidable, Fast Fire would probibly destroy it. [Big Grin]

Don't forget that if you have have Strength Charm attached to your Electabuzz and flip tails on Thunderpunch, you're going to do 20 damage to yourself.

On a recent chat, MTM said the BZ kits might hit local shops as early as Dec 2. But if kits arrive any earlier (I doubt they will), you can use the base set Buzz.

Your best bet for when they're legal is to check ebay, because as we all know whenever a new card is released someone has it on ebay.(remebers our first pics of e-card and neo 4 cards)

Buzz is an exciting new addition to Modified, that (In my opinion) may give lightning a semi edge against tyrogue. With lots of fighting resistant cards, they either take too long to build up (LC Zapdos) or can't deal lethal damage, even if you win the tails-fails effect (gligar). After the baby power, buzz can kill it without drawbacks (other than a possible 10). I see buzz as the flagbearer for the Amphy deck. Should he possibly prove to have a solid 50/50 chance of KOing tyrogue most of the time, Kingdra is dead, and Dark G8R will have a run for its money. Live on Ampharos!!! LIVE ON!!!

It's available on eBay! Look up "electabuzz winner" to see some auctions. Also good to print out as proof of the cards existance and availability.

Keep in mind, Kingdra isn't weak to Electric. And Buzz takes two energies to work, so they won't bench Horsea until Rogue has made Buzz afraid to be benched.

That's why you use genesis Pikachu. Yeah, it can be rogued, but I've got ways of dealing with that. What Buzz seems to have done is put things back into the area of weakness/resistance tactics.

Dark Gatr is weak to Grass so Lightning weakness wont have too much of an effect when using Buzz.

I think that Buzz was brought back due to the heavy anticipation of all the Water Pokes in Expedition that are weak to Lightning. All in all though a player that is playing Lightning weakness should also use Rogue to smash punch the Fighting weak Lightning types such as Buzz.

Ive already seen some interesting MF Haymaker type decks.

Without much Lightning and no Slowkings in our last local tournament, Polywrath and Gatr decks ruled. In fact, the winning deck was an all-Expedition, non-PP-Gatr deck I made for my 8-year old (used by my son's 14-year old buddy). Despite my suggestion for others to bring their Buzzes (because we received our BZ kits over Thanksgiving), no one used Buzz. But, with Buzz back, I expect to see more Tyrogues and/or less Polywrath and E-Gatr decks.
