Well, here goes..
Say I have an attack that says count the number of Darkness or Metal Energy Cards attatched to my Pokemon, and one of its attacks effects requires you to have a Darkness Energy Card, would you be able to use them if Light Dragonite is opposed?

Examples:
I have Dark Houndoom, and use its attack where you discard a Darkness Energy to do extra damage against a Light Dragonite.

I have an Aquapolis Scizor and use its second attack which makes you count the number of Metal Energy attatched to Scizor, and flip a number of coins equal to that ammount.

Light Dragonite states that all Special Energy Cards PROVIDE Colorless energy, but it is not quite specified on whether or not it affects attacks that require Special Enregy to do additional effects.

Seeing the previous ruling on the Porygon2 - Rainbow Burn Ho-oh combo, this could go either way, since they provide Colorless Energy while remaining as their original cards.

If this has been previously ruled on already, then I apologize.

A darkness energy card remains a darkness energy card regardless of what energy it is actually providing. However, as you have noticed a darkness energy card does not always provide darkness energy.

The same for metal.

If an attack requires darkness energy as part of its cost then you have to ensure that an energy card is providing darkness.

It is a good question and you are right in seeking clarification so the following is just my 2cents.... suggest that you ask the question at the next chat

For Dark Houndoom when facing Lt Dragonite: you must discard a Darkness energy card if it is attached and gain the +20. You won't get the +10 from the darkness card text. Rainbow will stay put as it no longer provides darkness energy.

Aqua Scizor counts the amount of metal energy. so Lt Dragonite stops that!

With what you said, I am making the following assumptions:

Assumption: Anything that requires a type of ENERGY to be counted or discarded requires the energy card(s) to provide energy of that type.

Example: Exeggutor's Called Shot - Choose 1 of your opponent's Benched Pokemon. This attack does 10 damage times the amount of (Grass) Energy attatched to Exeggutor. (Don't apply Weakness or Resistance for Benched Pokemon)

Situation: You have a Psychic Energy, a Rainbow Energy, a Grass Energy, a Crystal Energy, a Grass Energy converted to Psychic, and a Fire Energy converted to Grass attatched
---you would do 40 damage to a Pokemon
---the Rainbow, Grass, Fire converted to Grass, and Crystal Energy all provide Grass Energy
---the Psychic and Grass converted to Psychic do not provide Grass energy

Assumption: Anything that requires a type of ENERGY CARD to be counted or discarded requires the energy card(s) to either provide energy of that type, or originally be of that type of Energy card.

Example: Shining Charizard's White-hot Flame - Discard 1 (Fire) Energy card and 1 (Lightning) Energy card attatched to Shining Charizard or this attack does nothing. Flip a coin. If tails, Shining Chairzard does 30 damage to itself.

Situation: You have a Lightning Energy, a Crystal Energy, a Fire Energy, a Rainbow Energy, a Fire Energy converted to Grass, a Lightning Energy converted to Fire, and a Fighting Energy converted to Fire attatched
---you can discard a Crystal, Rainbow, or the Lightning converted to Fire Energy to cover either discard requirement
---you can discard the Lightning Energy to cover the Lightning Energy card discard requirement
---you can discard the Fire, Fire converted to Grass, or Fighting converted to Fire Energy to cover the Fire Energy card discard requirement

Assumption: Anything that requres a type of BASIC ENERGY to be counted or discarded requires the energy card(s) to provide energy of that type.

Example: None that I know of

Assumption: Anything that requires a type of BASIC ENERGY CARD to be counted or discarded requires the energy card(s) to be a Basic Energy Card of that type, but can provide any energy.

Example: Ho-oh's Rainbow Burn - This attack does 30 damage plus 10 more damage for each type of Basic Energy card, if any, attatched to Ho-oh.

Situation: You have a Darkness Energy, Metal Energy, Rainbow Energy, Crystal Energy, Fire Energy, Water Energy, Grass Energy, Psychic Energy, Fire Energy converted to Lightning, and Fire Energy converted to Fighting
---you would do 30 damage plus 40 more damage, 10 for the Fire, Water, Grass, and Psychic each
---the Darkness, Metal, Rainbow, and Crystal won't count, since they aren't Basic Energy cards
---the converted Fire Energies won't conut, since they are Basic Energy Cards of the Fire type, even though they provide other types

Can someone bring up my original question to chat to check it, I cannot because of Time Zone differences. I'd greatly appreciate it.

Also if what I assumed above can be confirmed as true or false, I'd also appreciate that too, since it would put an end to an arguement that a person and I has had going on for a while.

On a side note, I hope I didn't confuse anyone either, because I was already a bit confused myself.
