Here is the Text
M Metal Reversal: Before doing damage, you may choose one of your opponent's Benched Pokemon and switch it with the Defending Pokemon. 10
Here is the question:
If you use this attack and choose a Baby Pokemon, do you have to flip for the Baby Rule?
My answer is no because it says before doing damage...the problem is that the attack has already been put into play so technically, switching them is part of the attack and then the 10 damage gets put on the new Pokemon.
In other words, the Baby Rule says to flip after announcing the attack when a Baby is your Active. The Baby, however, is on the bench when the Attack is announced and therefore goes towards the defending pokemon. So switching is part of the current attack...right? It is not a new attack just because you switched them..

Your reasoning and conclusions are absolutely correct. Dark Gengar knocks out babies without ever flipping. You only flip when the defending Pokemon (when the attack occurs) is a baby.

That is what I thought...a person I play with said I had to flip when the Baby was brought up..I used the same example you did bought D. Gengar and Pull In...he said you aresupposed to flip for that too!
Is there a Compendium reference for this....I cant access it right now...server problems at work...
My main reasoning was for my son's deck in the Forum....Kingdra/ Steelix...he uses The Genetic Memory Mud Splash and does the Aq Horsea Reverse Thrust (I think is the name) and then uses steelix with the Cube on the Babies....kinda neat to watch sometimes...

FTC:
Q. If you have Dark Gengar active and attack with "Pull In" against a non-Baby Pokemon, and you choose a Baby Pokemon from their bench to be active and receive the damage, do you have to flip for the Baby Power? A. NO! (May 16, 2002 WotC Chat, Q121)
Same deal here.
Reverse Thrust. I was wondering when Kingdra would go Babyporter when I saw that card. ![[Wink]](../tcg/wink.gif)
