Q: If I use Alakazam's Confuse Ray successfully against a Mr. Mime, do I count the Confusion first or do I count the damage first? The damage count is blocked by Mr. Mime's Barrier, but if I count Confusion before I count the damage, the mime is KO'd. But the mime isn't KO'd if I count the damage before adding the Confusion.
Q: If I use Magmar's Smokescreen attack on a Charmeleon attempting a Flamethrower, do I discard an energy card and then flip for the Smokescreen to determine whether or not I do damage, or do I flip the Smokescreen coin (and if heads), then discard the energy to do damage?

1. The damage.
2. Flip, then discard if heads.

Yoshi: I disagree with you on the 2nd question. It used to be in the rulebook that you had to discard energy before attempting to get past a smokescreen. Well, they stopped using the smokescreen example as part of the sequence, so I checked the Master Document--and it still says that you have to discard the energy before the flip for the smokescreen. Crobat2 used to use Fossil Magmar at tournaments and that was always the ruling. Please let me know if you think it was overturned.

If it says "in order to use this attack" you discard first. Otherwise you flip first.
Hmmm...yet another oracle inaccuracy:
Charmeleon Pokémon card LV. 32 #5 R 80 HP Stage 1 Pokémon Evolves from Charmander Put Charmeleon on the Basic Pokémon Weakness: {W} Resistance: n/a Retreat cost: {C} {C}{C}{C} Slash 30 {R}{R}{C} Flamethrower Discard 1 {R} Energy card attached to Charmeleon in order to use this attack. 50
Should say "or this attack does nothing" (similar error throughout the evo chain). [ February 06, 2003, 07:00 AM: Message edited by: yoshi1001 ]
