....oh, it was NOT a NERF gun?

Wait, there's someone knocking on Jack Thompson's door......oh no, it's Mr. Opportunity! He has a HAWT Valentine's Day gift for Jack: that article!

And he's wearing a red velvet suit!

I'm not a parent as I'm only 14, but I do look into things like this a lot, and unless this kid has a mental illness the parents are the onrs to blame. It's either they set this example or allow there kid to be around it. I have a feeling the theft was not about the cards, but having the power to have what you want and get it when you want it.

I'm very sad to hear this because this also give pokemon a bad name.

....oh, it was NOT a NERF gun?

The original article says that the 10 year old used an Airsoft gun. Now I guess this could be a toy Nerf gun but I also think the article would have said that. When I read 'Airsoft gun' I thought of the guns that people use in Paintball and the like. Now I don't participate in Paintball but the few people that I know that do have guns that look like real guns - not some bright yellow plastic toy. And any gun - real, Airsoft, toy - can hurt if it is shot at someone's head. My 9 year old knows that as I'm sure this 10 year old did.

I agree. It is a learned behavior. But consequences need to follow the action.

A ten-year-old kid has a gun and this gets attention because of pokemon cards being involved. Yep, that's America.
i'm pretty sure most of the previous posters see this as a problem NOT because pokemon was involved, but because an elementary school-aged kid 1) had access to a gun (air or other) AND 2) thought using said gun to threaten bodily harm was an acceptable way to get what he wanted from another child.

it doesn't matter *what* "it" was: cards, money, an ipod, athletic shoes, cell phone...the problem is that a 10 y/o has been brought up in a way that has him thinking that this is acceptable and/or how to get what he happens to want, no matter whose possession it actually IS.

Yeah, especially paintball guns. Those things leave welts on muscular men. Imagine what it would do to a little boy. @_@

This might sound stupid, and I'm not trying to change the subject, but you just KNOW that Jack or someone else will connect this incident to Grand Theft Auto and proclaim, for the hundredth time, that video games are the root of all evil and blah blah. It's a given that holding up fellow students IS a learned behavior, but I just fear that someone will twist this story's facts as to shift the blame away from the parents and put it where they think it belongs: games which the parents purchased for the kid, or games which are owned by some other kid who the parents let associate with their kid. -_-

This whole case, where nobody was even injured, will just get blown out of proportion. Bullies exist, littler kids exist. Eve ate the apple; it doesn't take a Harvard grad to guess what will happen next. It's a shame the article doesn't detail whether or not this is the culprit's first run-in with little-kid law.

On a side note, judging by the picture of "Pokemon Cards" in the article, it's apparent that the writers went to the nation's top players and asked them what cards are popular now. >_<

Nothing says "Pokemon is evil" quite like a mushroom with eyes and a fat blue hypnotic-tummy eyeball thing.

L@@k what the article says now

So it probably was just one of those harmless toy nerf guns. But still, that is ridiculous!
The article refers to an "airsoft" gun. Aren't these BB guns? As such they can be very realistic in appearance. Frightening and dangerous. Still, other than the incident obviously happened I'm cautious about what I read in the press. It may be a Nerf but I suspect not :(

I'm not a bleeding heart liberal yet I can't help but think that expulsion of a 10 year old has to be if not the worst, then next to worst response.

Those parents should teach his some manners. I think it is his own fault if he gets expelled from school because this behaviour is ridiculous.

I just googled these guns.
They look darn real, except for the little red bit at the end.
I can imagine they would be very frightening to a 6 year old, even if they would do damage or not.
And I expect they could do some damage at close range.
After all, Brandon Lee, Bruce Lee's son, was killed by a malfunctioning blank charge from a gun.

Well, this is pathetic. Why would a kid of that age have a gun toy or not in school? When I was six I tried to trade a toy (a little happy meal toy, not no super expensive or fantastic toy.) with one of my friends and the teacher said we would have to ask our Moms.

But no... This kid gets to bring a toy gun to school and rob a kid and toy-gun point! Whatever happended to those good old days when kids cried themselves to death for what they wanted?

And yes that whole Pokemon is evil thing died for a reason: IT"S NOT TRUE! Any one here ever learn anything satanic while playing pokemon? well I haven't...

That's like that whole neopets thing. They wont let the kids who have acconts with ages under 13 play any of their gambling games. Even though it's only for neopoints. Somebody got mad when they saw the cartoon and Pikachu fighting some other Pokemon and had a trip on the internet, and of course EVERYBODY reads the internet and half believe it!

But I agree, why bring Pokemon cards to school? There are believe it or not a bunch of dishonest kids at school.

The teacher will take your cell phone in a heart beat. I call that stealing and would not let that happen to me. That's my cell phone buddy-teacher-man!

OMW, thats very extreme. I can't believe that. It may only be a airsoft gun, but at close range I can still do alot of damage even to a full grown adult, let alone a 6 year old.

Also to the above post, neopets mainly have the age groups to stop members talking to others and possibly meet each other.

But what I'm saying has nothing to do with the chating on neopets. They wont let anyone under 13 play their "gambling" games. Even though they're not really gambling games. This makes no sinse because you have to be like 21 to gamble. so why let all the teens do it on neopets?

I was suprised that the media did not turn this into a freak out insident. I'm a news reporter here, "A boy was killed today at a local school in northern Cally. The principal said he was shot once and was robbed of his Pokemon cards". I'm a mom here, "Bobby no more Pokemon cards! News reporter again, "Oh wait, my sources are telling me he was not killed or even shot, we are sorry for our misleading report." Mom again " Never mind Bobby, you can play Pokemon again." I'm Bobby now, " YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

Because the gambling ages vary in parts of the world. North and south america is 21, europe is 18 and one country in asia is 16 but anyway i get your point, lets keep on the topic.

I just wonder how the 6 year old must be feeling. I hope he got them back.

There have been a comments on here about Paintball Guns, I personally am a paintball player, and I do not deny there are some individuals out there that use paintball guns for other than its intended purpose or are down right stupid but if you get with a good group of guys and girls it really is a great game and much safer than people think I will not deny they can leave welts exceptially for first timers, but believe it does not take long before you realize to wear extra layer of clothes and you will be just fine.

Mods I was not trying to hyjack this topic just trying to give a personal view point of my experience.

I BB gun is a "real" gun. It just shoots BBs not a bulet.

I did not know that Pokemon was this popular now!

We got kids walking into school robbing other kids for TRADING CARDS at gun point.

I hope that the parents feel bad about rasing such a danger to the public. I mean think about it, if he's walking into school with a BB gun and robbing another kid, think what he'd of grown up and would have done.

People this IS very, very, a million times over SAD. :nonono:

I don't think anyone is saying they're not good if used for their intended purpose.
