Acceleration (DP-On)

Hello all,

This is actually my first deck in a long, long time. I'm a little rusty, but I like the concept of it, and ask for your help, especially with the Trainers. This will be for the next format, since that's when I'll make my return to the game.

Acceleration
DP-On Modified

Pokemon: 20
4 Celebi (SW)
4 Treecko
2 Grovyle
4 Sceptile
3 Tangela
3 Tangrowth

Energy: 16
13 Grass
3 Call

Trainers: 24
4 Roseanne's Research
4 Bebe's Search
4 Rare Candy
3 Professor Oak's Visit
3 Felicity's Drawing
3 Master Ball
2 Warp Point
1 Night Maintenance

Strategy: I believe (from my limited view of the cards/potential format) that energy acceleration will be a pretty important component of the game next season with the loss of DRE and Scramble Energy. So cards like Togekiss, Electivire (SW), and Typhlosion jump out at me. Another card I've grown fond of is Celebi from Secret Wonders. I like how it sets the deck up by getting energy from the deck with Sprouting for free, and then the use of Leaf Tornado allows for energy movement. Then with the addition of Sceptile to the mix, those two energy become four. I understand Leafeon/Leafeon LvX, but to be honest, I actually prefer Tangrowth. They both max out at needing 2 energy to attack. Tangrowth also has Bench hitting, as well as healing, little bit greater HP. Also, I think Tangela is a better starter than Eevee, since it can disrupt setup. I added in Call Energy to give me additional options if I cannot start with Celebi and have to start with Treecko or Tangela. It might be overkill on Pokemon Searching, but that's what Felicity's Drawing is for mid-game, to clear my hand of excess debris. I'd rather have over-searching early, than not enough. I'm going for fast and consistent.

Thoughts and help are appreciated in advance,

~Jim

really like the concept, but i have to say your running WAY too many Sceptile. You only need 1 on the bench, maybe a 2nd as backup so you can hit with one. I wouldnt run more then 3-2-3. I would also throw away the master balls for quick balls.

Yeah, Shuckle makes a good point on the Sceptile count. You could go for the 4-4 Tangrowth line instead. You should also consider two things:
Phione
Claydol

Phione is an excellent starter option, especially paired with Call Energy. Gets you Claydols and Tangrowth immediately, as well as the Sceptile if you need only that to get the setup. You can save a lot of trainers for later in the game when it is about getting the pokemon fast in response to Knockouts with the use of Bebe's Searches and Rare Candy.

Claydol will get the consistency thing nailed down pretty well. You will be drawing a ton of cards all of the time with it.

So where do you get the room for all of this? Well, I think you are running a lot of energy. I understand you want to use Celebi as the starter in this position, but in my fix, we decrease the Celebi count to serve a different purpose. After you get a Tangrowth KOed, you need another one fast, right? So you send up a Celebi to get it some energy so it has a sufficient amount. With the inclusion of Claydol, you could lose a Felicity's Drawing. With Phione, you won't need Master Ball because you get the evolutions out without using any search, so I think you can lose those as well. You can rely on the Bebe's Search to be there with four of them in the deck, especially with the help of Claydol.

I originally ran Celebi in the deck to grab grass energy, but found that I ended up really needing some help setting up basics and grabbing evolutions. I don't think it's safe to rely on trainers alone to set you up.

Also, I'll probably recommend this for every deck made next format and this format, your deck would probably benefit from putting in a 2-2 line of Claydol. Claydol is the new pidgeot (imho) and it makes any deck it is put into much more consistent. From experience, a recommended Claydol to a guy at my league that was running Sceptile/Exeguttor and it really improved his deck.

Even if you didn't modify the basics at all, like to add a starter, I would still recommend Claydol.

Make sure to replace Masterball with Dusk Ball when in DP-on since Masterball is gone.

I feel you should go 4 Call Energy. With no Starter, I think the deck needs it. You want to start with it every game anyways.

The deck definitely looks interesting. I would just be worried about the return of Magmortar next format since it can work with multiple new cards coming out like Heatran, Stark Mountain, Energy Spark(Patch), and the already known Typhlosion (that you mentioned). I like Leafeon a little better here since you can run Umbreon and remove your weakness.

Good luck with your deck Jim! I hope to see you sometime in the future!

Bubble Coat (1-2) is an option here. This deck has autowin to Kingdra which is predicted to be one of the most popular decks in early DP-on (and keeps some Magmortars away). It also has a pretty good matchup against Luxray because it doesn't run any Lv.X Pokémon. Togechomp is a real problem (Bubble Coat would help here, too), but at all, I see this deck fittung pretty well into the expected metagame.

To the list I can only repeat the statements about the Sceptile count and Claydol for draw.
I also would add another Night Maintenance.

sceptile does not help tangrowth as it says basic energy card.

It has been errata to say Basic Energy and not include Card.

I think that a 2-1-2 Sceptile and a 2-2-2 Leafeon Lv X would be better than the Celebi idea. Leafeon gives you an additional attacker and also gives you that nrg attachment. I know that it is another line but you were going 4-2-4 on Sceptile and 4 Celebi. So this actually ends up giving you 3 Spots for ither things if wanted!

GL and glad to see you back!!

I like the idea of the deck although i don't think you need 4 sceptile. they are important for energy but i would only play 3 at most. I don't like the idea of Celebi as a starter, i would consider taking out the call energy and adding in pachi for your empoleon match-ups. and there helpful to get rid of cess crystal. It would also be a good idea to add in a 2-2 claydol for consistency, if not this deck struggles to set up.

As far was we know....

Muha...haha...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!

Anyway, I have a lot of experience with Sceppy decks, so two things:

Sceptile line is too big.

Four Roseanne's...overkill much?

We like four Roseanne's for consistency. Regardless of whether or not it is overkill, we almost always want to have one early on.

Hey thanks everyone for your thoughts. I'm not sure on Claydol, I understand it's relevance. I'll probably include it once I actually get the cards to make decks again. But, it seems like a target for many players. IE: Bench attacking or spread damage. I foresee spread damage being big after the next set. I am however going to switch up some things, especially around the Pokemon area. I am going to go with 4 Pachirisu instead of Celebi. I am however, keeping 2 Celebi to energy setup once I have grabbed my basics with Pachirisu. I am leaving the Sceptile line big, I am doing this because Sceptile is a main attacker of the deck in tandem with Tangrowth. The entire deck basically attacks for 2 Grass energy. Why not use Sceptile? Even if it's only got 100 HP, 2 for 50, maybe 70 is still pretty good. Especially if I've got another to keep the Body going if it goes down. Tangrowth is more of a cleanup and Bench hitter. That's how I view this deck.

Here's what the list looks like now.

Pokemon: 22
4 Pachirisu
4 Treecko
2 Grovyle
4 Sceptile
3 Tangela
3 Tangrowth
2 Celebi

Energy: 16
16 Grass

Trainers: 22
4 Bebe's Search
4 Rare Candy
3 Roseanne's Research
3 Felicity's Drawing
3 Professor Oak's Visit
2 Cynthia's Plan
2 Dusk Ball
1 Night Maintenance

This is no-where near the final list for this deck. Before I go any lower in energy counts, I always stick with 16 and test. If I run into an abundance of energy, I'll cut some down. But for now, I'll leave the energy alone. Even if Pachirisu/Roseanne's is overkill, I have Felicity in the deck to discard useless cards mid-late game. Roseanne's still has the backup ability to grab energy cards too, not just Pokemon. I'm iffy on Dusk Ball, I like it because it's a non-Supporter, and I can use it in combination with POV, but I'm thinking I should drop one for another Maintenance and go with 2 Wager so I have some hand shuffling going on.

Again, this is still in rough design. I do like the deck in theory. It's designed to be quick, consistant, attack for cheap energy costs, and then clean with a couple Tangrowth. Thanks for the help guys.
