Soloman Draft...thats a blast from the past. i have not played in a Solomon draft sence Ruby/Sapphire.

Sounds like fun!

EDIT: Just saw the prizes. Nintendo DS Lites for top 16, Nintendo Wii for top 4, with Trophys for top 4. Not bad at all for a free tournament.

1. Each player receives the same number of booster packs.
2. Each player opens all of his or her packs, and has about 5 minutes to review the cards in those packs.
3. Two players shuffle together the contents of the boosters they received, creating one large stack of cards.
4. The stack of cards is placed face down, and one player flips a coin, with the winner of the coin flip drafting first.
5. The player who won the coin flip takes the top 4 cards from the stack and places them face up.

The player who won the coin flip chooses 1 card and moves it to his or her draft pile.
The player who lost the coin flip chooses 2 cards and moves them to his or her draft pile.
The player who won the coin flip takes the last card and moves it to his or her draft pile.
6. The player who lost the coin flip takes the top 4 cards from the stack and places them face up.

The player who lost the coin flip chooses 1 card and moves it to his or her draft pile.
The player who won the coin flip chooses 2 cards and moves them to his or her draft pile.
The player who lost the coin flip takes the last card and moves it to his or her draft pile.
7. Players continue to alternate drafting order until the stack of cards has been depleted.
8. Players construct a 40-card deck, using only the cards they drafted, plus basic Energy provided by the Tournament Organizer.
9. Players retain all of the cards drafted until the event ends, in case another round of drafting is necessary.
10. After the event ends, players return any basic Energy cards

Now, the question I have is, do I also get to see the cards that the other player has, or do I just review the cards from my own packs before we draft?

  • Player 1 goes first.
  • Flips over 4 cards
  • Player 1 takes 1 card
  • Player 2 takes 2 cards
  • Player 1 takes last card.

Rinse and repeat.

So yes, you see what cards you opponent is taking however, you don't get to see what he opened up initially, only after they have been revealed.

No, I'm talking about the prep period before you actually start choosing cards.

I don't think so. It would make the drafting a lot less meaninful if you knew your opponent had pulled certain cards. I think the idea is to be quick on your feet.

Just to make sure, am i eligible to play? I am a european professor who will be at the NA Prof cup.

Thanks,

Tom.

You need a GOOD memory for this kind of draft. Unfortunately, the Champ's is somewhere to the left of pathetic.

Are we allowed to take notes during the first part?

Although I don't really like limited format, this sounds fun.

But 75 points? It's difficult to have a chance of participating without having a local league. I judged / will judge at least one of each Premier Event and some Prereleases but don't know how to get 80 points yet. =/

This will be fun!! (unless both of you draw dead) Hopefully, they wont use the LARGE sets ie 130 or so card sets for the draft. Too hard to get evos that way.

Writing reviews of cards for the op website on PRs is a way to get a few extra points.

The bottom line, this tourney is a REWARD and a chance to play for those judges and PTOs that give soooo much of their time that they dont get to play much, or at all. JMHO. THX PUI!!!

Hopefully Lawman & I won't be sitting at the last table by round 7 AGAIN and have Pete come tell us we stink, so drop and help out, lol.

Can you smellllllllll what the Cook Man is cooking? It's called Victory, it comes in a can and I just opened it.

Okay, it's corny but I'm sticking with it.

Wow. Such changes from last year!

I know how you feel ShadowGuard. Every year, I've always just barely passed the point limit for the Professor Cup (played in it twice so far).

This year, it is 25 more points, and maybe I can't make the extra 25 points, but I don't really care. I have felt blessed to be able to participate in the past events, as they are REWARDS.

I'm going to try to earn the extra amount of points by the deadline, and just see what happens. If I can't play, I will definitely watch the people who get to play and root them on from the sidelines.

The judges/ptos/staff are the gears in this game; this game doesn't work without them. They deserve the REWARD for their hard work.

40/75 gotten so far. Let's see if I can get the last 35. Wish me luck.

Yeah, I haven't done that in a while. AKA Continous draft.
It's fun.
And you don't get to see your opponents pool, until you start drafting.
And you do this for every game, so your deck is different every game.
Well, you don't get 6 packs every game........you just shuffle your cards in with your opponents.

Now, the question I have is, do I also get to see the cards that the other player has, or do I just review the cards from my own packs before we draft?

You only get to look at the cards you opened before the draft. Its a little trickier planning your drafting strategy that way.

There has never been a residency restriction on the Professor Cup.

If your PTO runs sanctioned side events and you judge those, you'll earn Professor points for that as well. There is a cap on the number or credits you can earn per day/week, but that sort of thing can help you double dip, without breaking any rules.

We typically use the most recent set. In this case, that will be Rising Rivals. I'll let you make the call on how hard it will be to draft with.

In Continuous, you Solomon Draft at the beginning of each round. Its a ton of fun, but it takes a LOOOOOONG time. For this event, you will draft once before Swiss and once before SEF.
