Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Glisctomb Counter

Like, say, a Chatot with an energy?

bingo.

you usually end up using upper/bronzongG to power it up, or bench it if they dont have pokeblowers early/mid (have already used them) or if you have a warp energy, but otherwise yeah, it can be locked too if you dont play ANY other outs besides chatot. i would love to bench him with an energy, because it does force your opponent to burn off the like, 6-8 energy they play to try to consistently switch out and retreat around.

In my match against GlisTomb, I started with Chatot and used Cyclone to gust up his Unown G, which was awesome. He then used 4x Flash bite on the Chatot...I was very confused. Any ideas as to why, or was it all just a big misplay?

if he only played 1 unown G, and could not unown G his unown G, then he would be locked at that point. it was probably a desperate attempt to kill you before you could lock it.

Here are a couple, for two big Colorless hitters right now. One is more meta than the other, but I like them both, and I think the ability to beat Gliscor/Spiritomb is huge right now.

- Trapinch SW (Inviting Trap); this guy lets you switch out the opponent's Spiritomb early, which often breaks the trainer lock for a turn or two.

- Gible MT (Push Down); Basically the same idea here.

So yeah.

If you haven't played against one of these decks at league or on redshark yet, then you don't get how annoying this deck can be. Basically, they set up two gliscors and level them up every turnand use shoot poison for paralysis and poison. Then they use burning poison to retreat into their spiritomb so that you cant warp point/switch out.

The point of this thread is to discuss any viable techs that can help better the match up and prevent yourself from getting locked for time. Its more viable then most people think it is, and if you're not prepared for this match up, you should be prepared to lose very very easily.

To defeat glisctomb the main strategies I believe are,

Destroy their BTS. They need it to evolve right away.

Play Warp Energy. Warp your active out and get rid of paralysis.

Dusknoir DP. Dark Palm their gliscor or tomb to get a couple of turns of reprieve.

Play power lock. Via Mesprits, Power Sprays. Very hard to do unless you're playing Palkia and or SP

Prevent spirtomb from retreating using some sort of lock.

Recover energy. Remove all stats condition

Cyclone energy. Switch out their active tomb. Pray they dont have 2

Play evolutions carefully so that you can get rid of status conditions.

Thats all I could think of on top of my head. Also, which of these techs could be used in stage 2 decks such as flygon so that it doesn't become a dead card in other match ups?

get up on 1 prize, then when they bring up spiritomb, use chatot to lock them with its second attack to effectively stall

GHQ + Ampharos PL!

Now every time they play Gliscor to evolve they take damage and can't use Shoot Poison cos of Damage Bind!

(Yes, I do know there are easier and better ways).

okay if you realy want to beat gliscor then just run a 1-1 xatu sw to move over the condition and you can frreely attack and lock their spiritomb :thumb:

How does this deck work?
Do you rely on SSU inorder to retrieve Gliscor, BTS, to get Gliscor out again, wait a turn, then Lv.X to use it's power again?

Seems like it's coin dependant on the SSU, and a bit slow to me, since you can't BTS straight to Lv.X.
Someone inform me on how this works.

Basically, it works like this . . .

1. Spiritomb with Unown Q active, BTS out, Gligar/Gliscor and Unown K on Bench, Gligar/Glisor/LV X in hand.
2. Free retreat Spiritomb
3. Gliscor active, Level Up, use Shoot Poison to Paralyse
4. Bench next Gligar/Gliscor using BTS
5. Use Burning Poison to return LV X and all cards to your hand
6. Push Spiritomb active
7. Defending Pokemon is now Paralysed so can't attack or retreat. Spiritomb prevents Warp/Switch/PokeTurn/SSU
8. Unown K keeps opponent's active from being KO'd by Poison damage
9. Just repeat until time is called and then take a Prize with Status damage/Night Slash

The deck runs Poke Blower to force out a Pokemon (usually Claydol) that can't evolve or Level Up out of the Paralysis.

Counter for Glistomb?

Is there a good counter for Glistomb? Besides Gyarados. Because in my area the top cut for seniors were both Glistomb. Thanks.
