While scurging Ebay for some cards from hgss I have come to the conclusoin that the primes are selling for much too much. With 1 of each prime per box they should be selling for about 5 dollars mabye even less. The reality is that when I buy a box I usally get about 1 of a certain rare, and often none if its a rare holo that I seek. Most of the primes arnt even that good. I can see no reason for them to be selling for over :nonono:15 dollars. People think they are as rare as lvx's but they are kind of like average pokemon.....just shiny. I realize the set hasn't been officailly released yet, and mabye thats driving up the prices.

What do you think, are they overpriced or am I over reacting?
please explain your answer so this doesnt get locked, Thanks

Simple supply and demand can explain this. The set doesn't come out til Wednesday and most retailers don't have singles available yet. With some exceptions, most everything is coming from prerelease pulls, so the "supply" is relatively low. Meanwhile, Primes are new and shiny and some have a lot of hype behind them. Once things settle down and they begin to saturate the market while people realize their potential or lack thereof, then the "right" prices will show up in the secondary market. If nobody is willing to buy them for that price, then that price will go down.

im thinkin they'll stay between $5-$15, the ones that will be in the tins will be closer to five, and donphan will be around $15, then some in between.

You're forgetting about the consequences of the official release date. What you see online is supply that has been released through the Pre-release system (for the first week of PRs, at that). Compare that number of packs being opened to the number that can be opened when all the boxes that wholesalers and retail chains have in stock are then able to be shipped and sold. That number dwarfs the supply that gets put out at PRs. Just wait for supply to balloon and the wind to come out of their sails.

I did not forget. Good that you think the prices will drop I am in no rush to buy them, I will just fake them till states.

Forgive me, I skimmed, I saw "no reason for them to be $15" and went into autopilot about why they were but won't be for long.

If you think the Primes are overpriced, what do you think about the Legends? Lugia is going for what, $26+, and its barely even a playable card. Its just like the Arceus'. Once the set is out for a while and everyone that wants to put one in their collection has, the price will plummet.

well the legends are justified because there is only two halves per box, regardless weather they are playable or not.

I would simply sell now IMO. I sold Darkrai X for $75 when it first came out :) My general rule is if I can clear at least $30 I'm selling it and buying it back later.

These card's are butt ugly compared to lv.x in my opinion. The TACKY "explosion" art around the picture border is horrible.
Tell me if this looks cool?

The close up shots were probably not that great of an idea. All you see is a face. No cool poses or anything. Just a face...

And yes, many of them are pretty mediocre...
I actually find most of the cards kind of average. The coolest thing about this set in my opinion is all the artwork on the energies.
All of them. the basics, the DCE, the Rainbow, etc.

$15 for a prime isn't that bad. If you find yourself neeeding just 1 or 2 for your deck, $30 for 2 singles is a far cry cheaper than $170 for two boxes...

I found a site selling them for about $10 per prime (except Donphan which is $15). The cards are all decent priced...which kinda scares me if they are all priced pretty low.

You're worrying about the prices of Pokemon PRIME? Look at Double Colorless Energy! Good lord, talk about a high price, and you probably need 3-4 of them for certain decks. Yuck!

I've been pleasantly surprised to see the price of Pokemon PRIME as low as they are. I expected them to hover around the $10 price, but I've seen them as low as $5 on eBay. Not bad at all.

I've been pleasantly surprised to see the price of Base Set DCE as low as it is. I expected them to be much more sought after and rare, but I've seen that it will be affordable for me to kick it OSP in my lists.

Um, if you want to sell me Primes for $5, I'll buy as many as you have.

Seriously, though. As FunnyBear said, if you think Primes are overpriced, look at the Legends! Prices these days are not based solely on rarity, although it plays a part. Playability counts for a fair bit as well, and with the exception of Meganium, all the Primes are at least somewhat playable.

Suggesting that Primes sell for $5 is absolutely ridiculous. So, you open a pack and pull a Prime. And the Prime is worth $1 more than what you paid for the pack. I don't think so.

I lol'd. You scarcely ever break even opening packs at $4.00 per. And yeah, outside of Donphan and Blissey (and Feraligatr that I would hold on to to see if that fancy Blastoise makes it playable), I wouldn't sell a Prime for much over $5.00. Especially if I was selling it to a kid at league. They're simply not worth that much. They're incredibly common (relative to your odds of getting any one holo rare from the set -- e.g. Jumpluff) and for the most part mediocre. All they have going for them is that they're a bit more shiny, really.

Edit: if you hold out Donphan and Blissey, you're left with what, four primes. Ampharos, Meganium, Feraligatr, and Typhlosion. They're all varying degrees of mediocre (save for Meganium which is just bad. Nice art though). Factor in that three of those four are going to be put in tins and yes, I would feel like a con man selling those primes for more than $4-6. The legends will go down as supply increases because they're simply not playable.

how is DCE that expensive? it came out in base set, base set 2, and now. its a reprint.

Not everybody held on to their original Base Set cards, and not everybody was around during that time. I'd guess that a fair number of those old cards found their way to the bottom of a dumpster at some point in the intervening dozen years.

The price for this card still pales in comparison to the price for Transceiver, which I still consider to be the gold standard for price gouging. Also, like most to all new, hyped cards, the price spikes for the first few weeks, then will stabilize into something hopefully more manageable.
