Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Pokemon Prime or overpriced

I was around when Base Set was here. Infact, I was already in my teens when it was around.
So I had collected about 8 of them. I could have bought more DCE's online for $2 each, but I figured,
I already have 8, and I specifically want the new artwork ones from HGSS. So I'll just wait...
The 2nd day after HGSS came out, base set DCE jumped to $4, and HGSS DCE was being sold for $8.

LOL... No thanks.

I'm honestly not really interested in this set. The TCG has died down again for me...
something about this set and the new change with the card templates kinda killed it for me.

Btw, I refuse to buy boosters or booster boxes now. Since I'm more of a player than a collector, I see no
reason to waste money like that. Buying singles is always more efficient if you're hunting for specific cards.
Infact, even if you were collecting, if you spent $200+ on two boxes, your set would probably be more complete
if you used that $200 to shop for specific cards individually. I know places that sell basics for 25 cents,
uncommons for 50 cents, many (unusable) rares for only a dollar... and maybe $2-3 for the better rares.
The only part that breaks you is the Primes, but you would have spent a lot on boosters just to get the ones
you need anyway.

People like boosters because they just like to be surprised (it's like opening a bday present),
even if it's not the best way to buy cards.

So far, out of several people I know of who have opened boxes, not one of those boxes has completely excluded any holo. Generally, two or so of most holos were pulled. I actually did run an eBay search for Primes, and I couldn't find a single one that was ≤$5 shipped. Yes, I see Primes going for $7-$8 shipped, but I didn't see any literally going for $5 shipped.

Usually there is combined shipping, so that $2-3 extra for 1 card becomes $2 + $.25 for each extra card. It can be $3 shipping for 5 cards. So after buying 5 Primes for $5 each, with $3 shipping, you are paying roughly $5.60 each.

I'm seeing Meganiums for $3 before s&h now. Can't wait to see their price when the tin version of it comes out.

Rofl this is the exact same reason why I still buy boosters. Ironically I almost always regret it and wish I had gone on ebay instead.

Seriously $4 gets you some awesome cards online. 4 of almost every trainer, some of the really good rares, etc. This is way better than my pack of 6 terrible commons, 3 uncommons of non-competitive evolved pokemon +arcanine or something.

Primes are "overpriced" now, but that happens with every set when they barely come out. I recently paid $24 for 2xDonphan and never regretted it cause the the chances of me getting those cards out of 6 booster packs is incredibly low.

Are Primes overpriced? Of course, every card is overpriced, they are all worth about two cents intrinsically. The only logical estimate of value is to use market pricing, so by definition they are always fairly priced. The only question is whether an individual sale (or trade) is fair relative to the market. Trying to compare dollars per "playability unit" is ridiculous, but its amusing to watch people try.

Primes, while they can be considered a replacement for Lv X, are much easier to find. In 6 packs, I pulled 3 primes. Yet I've opened numerous packs from prior sets and barely pull any Lv X cards. It's disappointing that the only two cards you tend to see in HGSS so far that are very rare and have a high value are the Alph Lithograph and the Red Gyarados.

I am very happy with the distribution. At league yesterday, everyone who bought 3-4 packs pulled a PRIME or 1 part of a LEGEND. Everyone was happy, everyone was trading. It was a great new set turnout.

how is DCE that expensive? it came out in base set, base set 2, and now. its a reprint.

Because it is in such high demand. Also not everyone has older versions. Also add to the fact that this is the first time that it is available in RH. You have to be careful on ebay though as there are so many illegal listings on ebay. Currently ebay is walking a very very fine line with other companies at the moment. At the current pace of illegal counterfeits and bootlegs being sold its only a matter of time before a massive lawsuit will be filed against ebay.

Back on topic though, I would think that Great prices would be around $15 since ratio per box is high. You also have to realize that alot of people are still willing to pay over $10 for GE Wailord simply because of a number on the card.

this is how i feel about the set it allowed some new players to be able to trade for staples and other needed cards without having to invest in a large amount of booster packs before they found something trade worthy. in one pack a girl pulled a collector, a RH DCE and lugia legend top. her next pack she got DCE, RH jumpluff and blissey prime. she was able to trade enough to now make a playable deck for states. i am very pleased with this set indeed.
