Japanese VS set

I am interested in collecting these. I was wondering if someone could give me some insight into the set. Especially what cards are more valuable and the values of those cards. Also the price at which booster packs usually sell.

That and any other information would be great. Thanks.

Karen's Umbreon usually ranges 60-70+
Lances Charizard 30+
Legendary Dog Trio - 15+ EACH
Tyranitar = 40+

Those are probably the higher valued ones

Most holos at 10+ each
Commons probably .50-1.00 depending

Some are worth 3-5

Its an expensive set.

booster packs, I think are $20-30 each?
Though fire/water packs are most rare
THEN Psychic.Figthing
THEN Electric Grass

Why is Karens Umbreon worth upwards to $70?

I never quite understood the VS set because this is one particular set that was everywhere back in 2002 I think when they came out, yet it ends up being cards with high price even for commons and uncommons. The packs had like 30 cards in them.

I think VS set is an example of a collectors market gone wrong like much of the stuff in the past that has little value yet is more rare than VS cards.

Umbreon rarely sales for that high more like $40 and charizard around $25 if people buy it for more they are reaching. The other holos if smart and wait and not just buy when you see them can go around $5-$8. The last few set have sold for less than $250. There is a set for $300 on eBay right now and it hasn't sold for months. Honestly the craze for VS set cards will go down.

is it suppose to be the art of the cards or the fact they never was released in the U.S. that makes them popular? Its the first 1st Edition cards created I think by Japan as well? (Really havent seen a non 1st Ed card in Japan since when they started it oddly enough)

I know by Japan standards they were produced just as much as any other set. Card shops over here was getting them in masses at the time along with bulks of the Neo sets, alot of Neo 4 as well.

U can get the umberon on yahoo Japan for $15 and the charizard for $10. Theres always those few People who rush to buy and pay way too much.

I love the set. It's just not that valuable. The main reason I love the set is the artwork.

A card is worth what people are willing to pay for it.

When you factor in the cost of a middleman, go to the trouble to translate the pages and work your way through the site, etc., you end up paying a good deal more than $10. If you can get Rocket's Entei for $5-$8, why not buy out Y!J and sell all of them at a 300% profit?

As for why Karen's Umbreon is so valuable... really, it's because it's a gorgeous card and because there are a lot of Eeveelution collectors out there. Not counting the Player promo Espeon/Umbreon *s, it's one of the hardest Eeveelutions one can realistically obtain.

The VS set is just a hyped set right now. There is a umbreon that just past on yahoo sold for $15. If you have a middleman (most top collectors do) you maybe will pay $10 making the umbreon $25. There is a umbreon on eBay right now for $50 and no one has bought it, it's been listed many times. All I am saying is the set has sold for around $250 multiple times. And I know a couple people willing to sell for that range.

This is what I thought to but then their is other cards like that that hardly ever move, if they do move its not for very much like what they went for in years past.

the VS set is a hype for collectors and people online.originally 2 years back people didnt give a care for the VS cards until youtube hit the scene and people started bombarding sites for them after people saw interest in the cards and the artwork.only bad part about the VS cards is since they are so rare to find still sealed and was never released in the states makes it more for collectors to want it.booster boxes go from the range of 100-300 or more depending on which booster box it is the most common one is the grass/lighting followed by psychic/fighting and the hardest one to get is the fire/water booster.one auction ended not too long ago for 12 VS packs ended at over 120+ alone and that just had 1 fire/water pack.

as to why karen's unbreon is worth the most out of all the holos is because it was only able to be obtained by the fire/water pack and those packs are the hardest to find out of all 3.plus alot of eeveelution people out there and this is one of those sets that was overlooked alot.pulling one is also tough since its a 1 in 4 chance to get it due to each of the packs having 4 different holos.

fire/water-tyranitar,unbreon,sneasel,murkrow
psychic/fighting-3 dogs and wobuffet
grass/lighting-both jasmine and bruno steelix,scizor,skarmory

majority of the commons and trainers are cheap ranging from $.50-$1.00 the other ones which are fan favorites will go for 2-5 and lance's charizard is the overrated one going for 30+ even more sometimes.

Im pretty sure, one card sold, doesn't mean it is worth that...

The Umbreon is from the most rare to find packs, and now the most expensive
As well it is a holo, so even paying $20 or whatever for a pack, won't guarantee the card...
As well, I don't care if one sold on ebay for $50 or whatever...
I know tons of eeveelution collectors who still need this because it is rare to them...

Don't get me wrong it's one of my favorites sets and the umbreon is the most valuable inthe set. I just know for a fact that a whole set has been selling for around $250. If you are looking for a full set let me know because a couple I know would be willing to sell for that price. :)

I'm pretty sure Karen's Umbreon was the hardest card to pull in that set. I remember it was the only card I didn't pull from opening one box of each of the VS "sets".

for some it maybe hard but when i brought my box i pulled 2 umbreons but was missing the murkrow lol.even though a whole set has been selling for that specific price most collectors wont drop the ball and pay that much for 1 or 2 cards they want in a set.

yea but think of it like this a collector wants just the umbreon charizard and blastoise card.they buy the whole set ok now they got over 100+ cards they dont need they can try selling most of them back but not guarentee the price they will sell it for if its on ebay including fees and such.if your luck you can make about 100-150 back but still have leftovers and you wont be moving those cards for awihle until someone wants the VS cards badly.

might as well just buy the singles instead of wasting more money on stuff you dont need

True but why buy single cards when a couple hundred more just buy the whole set. This means your spending way more money than you need to.

1. If you don't want a whole set; perhaps you only want one card, and don't have the time to turn around the rest of the cards for a profit.

2. If you only have enough money for the one card, and not "a couple hundred more" for the rest of the set. xD
