TCG Team Championship

http://pokegym.net/forums/showthread.php?t=162732

The Team championship is just a fun way for players to from teams and compete together for the Team Championship.

The team champions are decided during swiss play and the challenge is over after the final round of swiss is completed for each age group. Players form teams of 3-6 players all within the same age group. And only the finishes of the top 3 players are counted for the team score. So newer players can be on the same team as more experienced players without fear of hurting the team score. After Swiss is done scoring is determined based on the final swiss standings. So if team A had 4 players and they finished after swiss in 1st, 4th, 12, and 18th place they would have 1+4+12=17 points. Team B has 6 players and they finished 3rd, 5th, 7th, 23rd, 28th and 33rd they would have 3+5+7=15 points, Lowest team score wins so Team B would be the champion.

We do have prizes (Pokemon Team Championship Certificates) for all of the members of the winning team that me and my wife provide. We also provide the sign-up forms for team registration.

This had been a very fun and popular event here in Washington and Oregon, and it would be nice if we can give our fellow Canadian Pokemon Players the opportunity to participate as well. The last few years we have had around 50% of the players participating in the Regional Championship join in on a team for the Team Championship. It is also fun for Pokemon League members or Online "teams' to actually get the chance to compete together for an event. Last year we had over 30 teams particpate.

Are u.s. players allowed to participate?

Yes, you are. However, to every American player that wants to play, you may have read my NW Regionals Report where I was told I could win the Trip to Canadian Nationals. Unfortunately, I then recieved this eMail:

Due to a error on the part of one of our Organized Play staff members attending the Autumn Regional Championships, you were incorrectly informed that you had won a Travel Award to your Canadian National Championships.

Per the policy listed on the FAQ for the event at http://www.pokemon.com/us/organized-play/championship-series/tcg-autumn-regional-championships/

* Non-U.S. residents are not eligible to collect a Travel Award to the U.S. National Championships, as the U.S. Nationals are open to U.S. residents only. Non-Canadian residents are not eligible to collect a Travel Award to the Canadian National Championships, as the Canadian Nationals are open to Canadian residents only. If a non-resident wins a Regional Championship, the Travel Award will pass down to the next eligible resident. All other prizes will be awarded to the actual winner of the event.

That said, as the Play! Pokémon program is all about fun and excitement, we most certainly do not like to disappoint the kids who play our game, and support our program with all of their energy and passion.

Therefore, we would like to extend the following offer of our apologies to you:

As our policy clearly outlined that the Travel Award should have passed down to a U.S. finisher in this case, we’d like to offer you a $300 stipend rather than leave you with nothing but our apologies.

We will be readdressing this policy for next season to avoid these issues, and we’ll have an announcement in those regards at the beginning of next season.

Thank you,
Dave Schwimmer
Play! Pokémon

(TL;DR: They misinformed me, I do not get the Travel Award).

SO, if anyone is coming up because they think they can win the Travel Award... you can't. =(

Glad they at least got you a $300 travel stipend. That covers like 60% of the trip to Toronto which is definitely better than nothing.

Will be there for VGC for sure. Not sure on Saturday.

with such a great turn out at Provincial, we might need to consider a new venue for Regional :O

Well....

We had 161 players at BC Provincials ....with lots of persons traveling from Alberta, Washington and Oregon!

How many can we expect?.....This should be a HUGE event...........

Alberta players said there will be about 50 more confirmed that are coming for Regional. Hopefully more Washington and Oregon players. With the VGC event I'm say could go up to around 250 players

This is the only reason I'm debating going to CA instead...

Though I'll pry be coming all the same. I enjoy the pacific northwest player base too much not to :/

However anyone wanna throw out an estimate for SIZE? Provincials seemed to stretch our limit for space in the mall....I can't really imagine regionals being smaller than that.

Day 2 is tcg top cut for all age group and the vidoe game
Posted with Mobile style...
Couldn't top cut for Juniors / Seniors finish on Day 1 in case they want to play the video game on Day 2? I know a few really good Junior / Senior players in some of the events last fall had to pick between dropping out of TCG or not getting to play VGC and it really sucked for them considering they were done swiss at like 2PM the day before.
