Wow, this no CP for BR's thing really just materialized out of thin air.
Then people wonder why we can't get the green light to announce partial info prior to the official announcement.

Look, I know it’s not much but:

  • Battle Road events will have CPs.
  • The rest of the information for 2013 is nearly through all of the hoops that must be traversed before it can see the light of day.
  • No, I really could not have said this earlier.
  • I’m sorry that the BR info was not up earlier, it really should have been.

Will there be any statement made on why the Top Cut was removed from Battle Roads?

Thanks a ton for the info, Biggie!

>Remove top cut from Battle Roads to make them less crowded and cutthroat
>Keep Championship Points so they are crowded and cutthroat

Fantastic.

That BRs will have CPs is not enough info for people to be running around condemning them. Without knowing how many CP other events will be worth or what the Worlds bar is, we still don't really know anything.

Why should small, luck-based tournaments based on resistance play a role in who qualifies for the World Championship? How can these tournaments be beginner level tournaments when they play a role in determining who qualifies for the World Championship?

My question might seem misleading, since Worlds invites will be given to players who earn a certain amount of points rather than a certain relative ranking. That being said, these Battle Road points seem to do no one any harm. Regardless of how many other players earn points at Battle Roads, it cannot weaken your chance of qualifying for Worlds. However, you do need to look at the bigger picture of what BRs awarding Championship Points means for the amount of points required. If the points required to qualify are somewhere around 40-45, skilled players may be able to qualify on average while skipping Battle Road tournaments. However, lift if to 50+ and even the best players are going to need every point they can get, and will have to travel to play these mini tournaments. (This is all assuming tournaments maintain the same or similar point distribution methods as previous season.) Assuming the amount of points in Cities, States, Regionals, etc. stays the same, I expect to see a point requirement of >50 points to qualify for Worlds.

So what is it about being forced to attend Battle Roads that is so bad? Well, besides the season being jam-packed to a point that many competitive players simply don't have time to attend all these tournaments, it's the quality of these tournaments, too. Who wants to spend hours traveling to tournaments only to have resistance decide their fate after a few rounds of swiss? Heck, many players, myself included, will end up spending more time driving to and from these tournaments than we actually spend playing in them!

Thumbs down from me.

Thanks for the info! So that we as fans might better understand the P!P process, as well as have our own answers ready for whenever unwarranted rumors start flying around, would you mind discussing in brief some of "the hoops that must be traversed before [season information] can see the light of day"? Many of us (myself included) honestly don't know, so it'd be helpful to be able for us to say, "X document needs to be greenlighted by legal," or "Y award can be paid for with their budget, but they didn't know that and had to wait."

@Biggie: Thanks :D Although i never questioned partial information myself. Unless its talking about a whole event, like just finding out about BRs or Regs, but partial reveals of anything internal to an event just breeds rumours, like apparnetly this did.

Now everyone can go back to hating no Top Cut. Spekaing of which, uggggggggh xD

Thanks for speaking up. I'm looking forward to hearing the announcement.

I wish everyone had the patience of software engineers lol.

Does this include VGC? We're still hoping to get some information clarified on the VG - Modified ruleset!

You are missing that resistance ALREADY plays a big part Jason. It affects who makes top cut at other events. Why should someone who goes 6-2 get a chance at winning the event, yet another whiff and get only 3 points. It's a big deal, regardless of what event it is. I lost out at a shot at a States by losing out by .44 on the SECOND tiebreaker. However, if this happened at a BR, I wouldn't be as upset, but when I have the chance to earn 7 more points by just making cut, it's a big deal. It's not as big of one if I whiff on getting 1 or 2 more points when compared to up to 7.

Drew

I actually don't really have a problem with it. I'll be living in St. Paul, and the only four BRs in the area are within half an hour, so it works out.

^ I can agree with that, Drew. Tiebreakers would be less of a factor if we had more rounds and a T8, but that's another topic.

We really need to know the best finish limits and championship point totals for every event immediately. Knowing Battle Roads award points means very little in the grand scheme of things.

Call me crazy (or maybe?), but, I have some sort of inclination that Jason does know how resistance works and how it's a big part of things (I think he won Worlds twice, and bubbled at this last one, if I remember correctly/haven't been living under a rock) already, so trying to explain some irrelevant scenario to him wouldn't prove your point any further.

I could even add on to your story with my own butthurt story about how I bubbled 2/4 BRs (Autumn), 2/2 Regionals (Fall/Spring), 2/3 Cities, 1/2 States (WI, but topped MN), 1/3 BRs (Spring), and 1/1 Nationals this past year, but who really cares (my rating was really good though!). The point is, BRs are now going to impact how points percentages turn out. Whereas before, all you needed to do was essentially make top at BRs, now you actually have to go undefeated in them, which is much easier said than done. Get a single bad start in one of your games and it could be all over.

I, personally, am upset about this. I'm at college now, and it's about 3 hours away from home, so there's very little inclination for me to drive a total of 6 hours just to sit down and get like, donked R1 (though I still plan on it, because I'll be going to a back-to-back weekend, and celebrating my birthday as well). Like a lot of people have been saying, losing at a BRs to some kid because your deck just craps out on you is actually going to be legitimately frustrating, or getting paired against someone who you KNOW will do poorly will also really affect the entire thing. Having T4 was the saving grace, because, chances are, you just needed to go 4-1 to make it in, and have a legitimate shot at winning. Now, you must go X-0. And that's really, really competitive, and takes away from the fun of the tournaments (I wanted to play Aggron, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen now).

I will say, however, that this new atmosphere does provide the ability to legitimately try and test decks you would use for Fall Regionals, because, chances are, other people will also play something competitive in an attempt to win it, so you could really see how your deck plays out in a tournament setting.

TL:DR: I'm with Ness, I dislike this immensely.
