You are missing that resistance ALREADY plays a big part Jason. It affects who makes top cut at other events. Why should someone who goes 6-2 get a chance at winning the event, yet another whiff and get only 3 points. It's a big deal, regardless of what event it is. I lost out at a shot at a States by losing out by .44 on the SECOND tiebreaker. However, if this happened at a BR, I wouldn't be as upset, but when I have the chance to earn 7 more points by just making cut, it's a big deal. It's not as big of one if I whiff on getting 1 or 2 more points when compared to up to 7.

Call me crazy (or maybe?), but, I have some sort of inclination that Jason does know how resistance works and how it's a big part of things (I think he won Worlds twice, and bubbled at this last one, if I remember correctly/haven't been living under a rock) already, so trying to explain some irrelevant scenario to him wouldn't prove your point any further.
I could even add on to your story with my own butthurt story about how I bubbled 2/4 BRs (Autumn), 2/2 Regionals (Fall/Spring), 2/3 Cities, 1/2 States (WI, but topped MN), 1/3 BRs (Spring), and 1/1 Nationals this past year, but who really cares (my rating was really good though!). The point is, BRs are now going to impact how points percentages turn out. Whereas before, all you needed to do was essentially make top at BRs, now you actually have to go undefeated in them, which is much easier said than done. Get a single bad start in one of your games and it could be all over.
I, personally, am upset about this. I'm at college now, and it's about 3 hours away from home, so there's very little inclination for me to drive a total of 6 hours just to sit down and get like, donked R1 (though I still plan on it, because I'll be going to a back-to-back weekend, and celebrating my birthday as well). Like a lot of people have been saying, losing at a BRs to some kid because your deck just craps out on you is actually going to be legitimately frustrating, or getting paired against someone who you KNOW will do poorly will also really affect the entire thing. Having T4 was the saving grace, because, chances are, you just needed to go 4-1 to make it in, and have a legitimate shot at winning. Now, you must go X-0. And that's really, really competitive, and takes away from the fun of the tournaments (I wanted to play Aggron, but it doesn't look like that's gonna happen now).
I will say, however, that this new atmosphere does provide the ability to legitimately try and test decks you would use for Fall Regionals, because, chances are, other people will also play something competitive in an attempt to win it, so you could really see how your deck plays out in a tournament setting.

R: I'm with Ness, I dislike this immensely.
