I must have missed when they said "We will have this information available to you by [This] date." Would you mind pointing me in the direction of where they said that?

You're welcome to assume this information will be in before Battle Roads, and just as welcome to be upset that it's not here yet. But to claim they are missing a deadline that was never set is just wrong.

Umm I was actually referring to TCGO not Br's in that sentence..... Of course they didn't announce a set date yet.

Saying that Magic is bigger is ridiculous? No it isn't, it's completely true. Magic has a larger player base than does Pokémon, period. The 10 years of experience Wizards has is hardly relevant for some issues; does a company really need 20 years experience to make punctual announcements? Additionally, Pokémon has the advantage of being able to see what worked and did not work for Magic, and can copy a lot of what was successful in Magic. (Timed matches, best 2-of-3, and some other aspects to tournaments Pokemon uses were all first used in Magic: The Gathering.) I can't help but feel annoyed when I see someone kissing TPCi's butt. The company is screwing up. People have a right to be mad. Quit trying to play teacher's pet. Put some pressure on them. Call them out so these issues get recognized and fixed.

What I am particularly interested in finding out is whether or not Battle Roads will award Championship Points. Personally, I hope they do not, especially with the new swiss-only format. If these tournaments are indeed intended for beginners, they will not award Championship Points. As competitive as earning a Worlds invite has become, I would be annoyed to have to travel far and frequently to play three-hour tournaments to remain competitive.

I agree to a point with this post, but I just wanted to say this: none of us should be kissing TPCi's tose while we defend them, but I also think complaining like a petulant child, in a non-constructive way, are in no way helping the conversation. Maybe I'm expecting too much of the internet, but the posts saying, "Here are the scheduling conflicts I'm having to deal with not knowing if there are CPs or not" further the discussion in a constructive way, and I'd like to see these types of posts be closer to the norm.

As for borrowing from MTG: In some ways they can, in some ways they can't. The player bases are drastically different, the motivations are drastically different, and some some things just can't be borrowed directly from Magic without thought (for example, while I think best 2-of-3 should be the norm in Pokemon, it is a different question than Magic because of sideboards).

In sum, I 100% agree that P!P should have announced how Championship points (and perhaps even what "X" in the "X" cut off is) by now. It is unfair to their customer base who already spend considerable amounts of time and money to play the game (and lets be honest, with no real expectation of a positive net payoff). I just wish more posts saying so were like the second paragraph of the quotes post rather then nonconstructive whining.

As for something said above me: I'm pretty sure in terms of sales Pokemon outpaces Magic (though it certainly doesn't in player base). This is driven by the kid at the store who convinces his mom to buy him or her some packs.

But what would have been difficult about saying there will be CP, and the amount has stayed the same/changed and more info to come? They announced prie support for BRs, so it shouldve been easy to announce full prize support including the inclusion/or lack thereof CP.

errr because it is still not absolutely decided or because they aren't happy with piece-meal announcements or because they hate us all or because they are playing golf or because their bosses have to be convinced or because the announcement will be on the website or because ... well just use your imagination. Don't forget that I was posting my expectation that there will be CPs I don't actually know. What I do know is that this stuff is always much harder than it looks to us on the outside.

NoPoke, now you're sounding ridiculous. Not absolutely decided? The events start in less than 3 days! I'm pretty sure PTOs have the info but aren't allowed to release it.

From what I've heard there will still be CP at Battle Roads. But the fact that no official announcement has been made is absurd. And it is even more frustrating to see people defend this company when clearly they need to make some huge changes. Ness labeled them as "teacher's pets", I label them as sheep. Sheep that willingly defend the company, even when they deserve harsh criticism.

While I don't think TPCi is right in the pace of their announcements I had one thought that I don't recall reading, and well if I did read it and forgot pardon me.

Ya know why Prereleases aren't as fun as they could be? You already know 99.9% of what to expect in the set. I mean the Team Rocket expansion back in WotC day we were surprised with Dark Raichu, but overall there are no surprises even Day 1 of a PR.

Not that it is a good idea in practice, but to someone at TPCi it may seem like a really good idea to save the CP announcement for the people with a 9/1 Battle Roads to get it really hyped up. Maybe they don't realize that 4 or fewer packs and a shiny card doesn't really entice a majority number to come to the event, but the chance at CP does.

Mind you last year I went to I went to all but 1 BR chasing the CP, so this doesn't necessarily reflect my view. What's wrong with letting the "league champion" if you will win an official event? The Junior League Champion may not be able to beat the out of towners, but why can't they be recognized for being able to outplay their local friends? Let them be knocked out when they get to CCs.

I'm a bit peeved not knowing, but at the same time I can realistically say my financials are keeping me from going to more than three BRs this year anyway so I won't pick up a pitch fork, but I won't complain if you borrow one of my farm anyway.

@GBA rediculous? why? I have very little idea as to why the announcement has not been made.. I thought that the "golf" because was the most daft but then maybe you think otherwise? maybe you actually think that they hate you???

@Play Pokemon, At least let us know if there is still Championship Points at Batteroads before they start., you do not have to go in to details. Just a Yes or No. Thank you.

This. At this point, if there are CP, I don't care how many, I just want to know if they exist.

Trust me, the frustration is being felt up and down the spectrum.

I am moving events off of the first weekend due to this uncertainty, and frankly feel trapped as to whether or not I should travel with my kids for events on this first weekend.

We plan to try to attend Worlds this year, so we want to make sure to do what is necessary to obtain points, but we have NO IDEA what it will take at this point.

This is extremely frustrating for all involved, especially those of us trying to qualify for Worlds 2013.

To me, this is a little like a competitive gymnast wanting to qualify for the National Championship or Olympics, and having no clear road map to do so.

We are going to do what I would tell the gymnast to do. Don't flip out, and just keep training.

Quietly, I'm flipping out.

I think the player base would be far more understanding if there was a valid reason why given. "Sorry guys we don't have the info out yet because..." or "you should be expecting it..."

on a side note: what exactly is the point of telling the TO's everything so far in advance from the players? What does it accomplish?

Based on Vince's(STL PTO) post I really doubt that the TO's know anything more than we do at this point

I know everyone just wants proof/announcements/confirmation, and I know this solves no problems. But if it makes anyone feel better, I have heard numerous unofficial statements from organizers and people-close-to-organizers that the CP structure is the same as last year, and I have heard literally no other rumors. I think it's safe to plan on there being CP.

I'd buy this "It's the same" stuff if it weren't for two things-

1. Meganium45 not knowing.
2. ExoByte saying "Big changes" are coming.

Just saying.

Wow, this no CP for BR's thing really just materialized out of thin air.
Then people wonder why we can't get the green light to announce partial info prior to the official announcement.

Look, I know it’s not much but:

  • Battle Road events will have CPs.
  • The rest of the information for 2013 is nearly through all of the hoops that must be traversed before it can see the light of day.
  • No, I really could not have said this earlier.
  • I’m sorry that the BR info was not up earlier, it really should have been.

Have to say I'm very disappointed it took this long to announce there are Championship Points for Battle Roads. Also disappointed that there actually are.
