Almost 200 points between #1 and 2 lol. See if any other state has even close to that.

How about 340 point difference in South Carolina. Utah has a big difference and I found multiple with #1 being over a 100 points in front of #2. That is from a couple of minutes looking.

For Masters?

Anyways, my point is, the bigger the range between first and second, the weaker the area. When nobody can even come close to beating #1 in a game that DOES have luck, it means they could be playing better.

 Why am I not surprised in that someone points out what you ask and you want to complain and say that was not the point you wanted. My opinion is that you want to blame someone for your choices and that you was treated unfairly because you did not get what you wanted.

Maybe your complaints will make POP think this is a good thing. I could see using it as an example of why this was good. Can't sit back and sit on points. Maybe that is what POP wants. It is what I would want players trying to earn the big trip to do if I was giving one out. I would want those players trying to need to play whenever possible. Why would POP want someone who happens to win a couple of tournaments and that is all get the trip? If a player wants to go that route then finish in the top 4 at Nationals. Someone who makes the effort to keep raising their rating is someone I would want more to get a trip. That is my opinion and why I like the system other than losing points.

beware! Comparing a priori information with a posteriori information leads to easily dismissed argument.

The odds of flipping 10 heads in a row are slim before you start flipping, but once you've flipped 9 heads the odds are considerably better.

It should not be a surprise that a player going 28-0 shoots up through the rating and also leaves the rest of the local field behind. Given a big enough population of players and events it is likely that someone will do this.

The odds on winning a national lottery are millions to one against yet every week someone does.

Texas is not suddenly dominating the ratings in the USA. One player is.

Nevertheless Chucks feeling of unease is perfectly valid and sound even if his stats are a bit off.

100 points. Is Illinois really that bad of a player base?

1 Will Berry 1914.91 MA OK US
2 Jordan Dupuis 1752.92 MA OK US

Oklahoma is almost 200 points away.... I personaly dont think we have a bad player base.....

This is thread is stupid.... I think the only reason he is upset is because he personaly didnt take the advantage the Kettler did... Its so pathetic to complain about something that everyone had equal oppertunity to obtain...

The only reason for that is because Kyle moved from FL to SC.

But how can anyone catch up to Chuck if he hasn't played a game since Regionals? One of the reasons his rating is so high is because he won Regionals, but since then nobody has had a shot at him. Same thing with Jason; he hasn't played either. The problem with the IL area is that there are so many players that could win a tournament any given day. That makes it extremely difficult for someone to x-0 a tournament, and when the highest rated players aren't playing, it's tough for someone to gain a good amount of points.

I do think Battle Roads are a little lame. You start out with local events, Cities. The people in weak areas thrive, and they go to the top of the rankings. Then States come around, and the bigger competition comes into your local areas. The people in weak areas start to drop when they lose to the good players who have lower ratings because they live in a stronger area. Finally Regionals come around, the biggest tournaments besides Nationals. The best people rise to the top, and their ratings do the same. This should be the last stretch of events before Nationals! To this point, the best players have shown their skill on a Regional level. But now we have Battle Roads, which let the people in weak areas thrive on their local events once again. It doesn't really show who the best players are, just who can beat their little area and how many tournaments they can do it at. If BRs had a lower K value, the problem would be mostly solved. Not many people would make astronomical jumps just from winning local tournaments.

I know where you're coming from, Alex. Your message just got blurred when you slandered half of the US and the entire country of Mexico. :p

I am one of the travelling elite. We went to 3 States (skipped the 4th because all the kids had their travel awards), Missouri, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and almost Kansas.

We went to two Regionals - Chicago and Memphis.

We went to 14 Cities.

We are going to Nationals.

How is a "normal" player going to compete with that?

I consder myself "kinda" normal and all I went to was this:
4 Cities
4 Battle Roads
0 States
1 Regionals
1 Nationals

That's only half of the tournaments that you are going to and I'm still 4th in North America. It doesn't matter how many tournaments you play in, just how good you do at them.

Truce

How about a truce guys? Lawman is right, all of you had an opportunity to join in the Battle Roads. I was surprised by the small number of attendees given what was at stake. Regardless of how you shook out of the BRs (upstaged, ahead, played, didn't play), Nats is a perfect opportunity to show your mettle. It will separate the munchlaxes from the snorelaxes.

Randy

Some of the Texas Battle Roads were larger than some area's cities. So the k rating is about right. Can't get the pay if you don't play. I understand if people want to sit out and see what happens but you can't blame people who played.

In response to everthing else I would just like to say "WHAT?".

You can tweak the problem all you like with changes to the K value but the inescapable truth is that a late season 24-0 is guaranteed to give you a BIG boost in rating.

Whilst I agree that you have to be a bit lucky to go 24-0 you can't go 24-0 on luck alone. So props for a great BR record.

How did Ross Cawthon get on? His gain was even more than Patriarchs'

It's lucky for anyone to go 24-0 against any group of players, but it's even luckier to have the opportunity to do it. Most people realistically don't get to go to many tournaments, and up until this year it's been true for me. I remember back in 2004/2005 I played in a grand total of, like, six events (including nats and worlds, lol).

It's lucky to even have one BR to play in, let alone five.

I know what ya mean Patriarch.

I mean, I never get to go to events anymore. I didn't even have the chance to go to the Battle Roads in San Antonio.
I went to 2 cities, 1 States, 1 Regionals, and I will be going to Nats. That is 5 events in total. Now, I am not complaining, but there is basically no chance I am gonna get even close to the top 25-50 because so many more people get to go to more than twice as many events and do just as well or better than I do. AND bombing ONE major event, basically puts you back a WHOLE lot. I remember I was like in top 50-100 right after states, and right after regionals I dropped to like number 200. I am prolly lower than that now.

I don't like this system, but I love the game so I will keep playing.

A suitable solution to the whole some people can get to less events problem is simply to relocate everyone to where the events are.
