YEP I GOT A 99% ON MY ESSAY

Yep you read it right I wrote my first college paper and it’s about Pokemon and I want to share it with you.
Well, first of all, my assignment- I had to pick one of 10 topics and write a 500 word (minimum) essay about it. If I didn’t like one of the topics I could talk to the professor about a different one. I did like one of the topics, but got turned off by one word; you might know what it is.
If you guessed outdoor you are right. So I ask her if I can ignore the word outdoor and do it on Pokemon and she says yes to both. So I head off to the library after class to start working on it. I got so involved in this paper, I lost track of time and realized that I only had 30 min to save my work, log off computer, hurry across campus to the marketplace (cafeteria), eat and get to my next class. I normally give my self an hour for this.
After I was done with my classes for that day I headed to the library and finished the paper. Over the weekend I went to 4 leagues, yes 4 and showed people my paper and got feedback/proofreading from them. Then I did some revising on Sunday night. On Tuesday I turned the paper in. Today, Thursday I got my paper back.
2 funny notes-
Look at this screen shot, http://s190.photobucket.com/albums/z139/ACASP13/?action=view¤t=powerpointenglish.jpg, this screen shot is of a PowerPoint she showed us in class. Read the last bullet. When she said this in class I was laughing on the inside, saying to myself….. SHOULD I DO MY ESSAYS LIKE THIS? In case you were wondering NO I DIDN’T TURN MY PAPER IN LOOKING LIKE THIS
Also, for you guys on AIM who talk to me (Mainly People from OMAR CHAT)- Spell Check was most definitely the play for this paper and all my future college papers.
Before I get to my paper I just found something else about this assignment today. See in this course requires 5 500 word essays (10% of final grade, each), 1 Term Paper (30%), and Participation, Assignments, Test, Quizzes (20%). I thought this was one of the 10% essays, it wasn’t, this was because it was our first paper. I found this out after class today when I asked her the grade I got on it; the returned paper had no grade only comments. Scroll over the quote box below for the Professors comments if you want to read them now, if you want to read the comments after you read the paper scroll over them later. The Professor then told me that she will count this has a grade on an individual student bases, so if someone liked their paper and will think they will get a good grade, have the Prof count it, If a student doesn’t like their paper and know they will get a bad grade on it, they don’t count it. I think I am going to count it.
Why that long winded last paragraph was important- I don’t have a grade on it yet, so don’t ask what I go on it. Here are the Proffesor’s comments, read now, read later, your choice.
Now that I got your attention, a serious note-
As I was writing this paper, I was thinking about other players, why they play and the attitudes they show while playing and not playing this game. Pokegym- your “assignment”- Before you read my paper take a minute and ask yourself why you started to play this game. Then read the rest of the “assignment” below the essay
(Note there are errors my Professor caught, not editing this to show exactly what I turned in. Also excuse the bad formatting of the essay, the vBulletin system is preventing me from putting an indent in the paragraph)
Here is the essay and topic if you frogot what it was
Pokegym- Please don’t post any thing of a flaming or bashing nature, this post if meant to reflect on the past to better the future. Lets have a good season, good luck to all.

Now Pokegym- Ask your self why you still play this game, how has the game positively affected your personality and life and negatively affected your personality and life. Take the time between now and Battle Roads to reflect on those positives and negatives and determine what you have to do to make those positives aspects come out more and make those negative aspects disappear. My Essay said:The Activity I Enjoy Doing
The Pokémon Trading Card Game
The Pokémon trading card game is a card game I have played since I was 10 years old. This game has brought me many years of enjoyment and a group of friends that I will be close to for an entire lifetime. In this essay I plan to: tell you a little about the game, discuss what caught my interest in the game, how my interest in this game evolved over time, and explain why I recommend this game to other.
First off, what is Pokémon? Pokémon (or Pocket Monsters as is known in Japan) was originally created in Japan, by Satoshi Tajiri, as a video game for the game boy playing system. Tajiri’s idea came from his childhood interest of insect collecting. From the game boy systems Pokémon expanded into anime (Japanese cartoons), the trading card game, magna (Japanese comics), and other products such as clothing and toys. The Pokémon craze traveled from Japan to many countries worldwide. The Pokémon trading card game aspect of Pokémon requires 2 players, each with their own 60 card deck and damage counters. The 60 cards that make up each deck should work well with one another to form some sort of strategy to win the game. The winner normally has the best strategy and/or some sort of advantage over the opposing deck and a little luck. Also Pokémon isn’t like the other trading card games that have more teens and adults playing then children, this is because 3 age groups (Juniors, Seniors, and Masters) are in place at tournaments in Pokémon. Due to the age groups, the teens and adults aren’t taking easy wins versus the younger children; because of this the children won’t get discouraged and are more likely to stay in the game. The age groups are based on year of birth, so depending on what part of the year it is, the age range of each age group look something like this 11 and under (Juniors), 11-15 (Seniors), and 15 and older (Masters). Each year the birth years that are in each group are changed but the age range found in each age group basically stay the same each year.
At first, what attracted me to the game was that it was fun and it was the cool thing to do at the time. One of the things that kept me in to the game is the friendships that can be made by playing this game. Friendships at different levels can come from this game, these levels are: local, state, national, international, and personal. The friendships I have made at the local level are closest friendships I made in and out of this game; I hope to hold this group of friends close to me forever. The friendships at the state and national levels bring myself and others the enjoyment of competing against their friends that they talk to online, daily, about this game, but are unable to see often due to the distance between them. Friendship at the international level occurs once a year in person. Each year a small group people from around the world are invited to play in the world championships. Here people of different backgrounds come for the joy of competing for the title of World Champion. This event gives players from many countries, such as: The United States, Japan, Australia, United Kingdom and even Finland, the rare chance to get to know somebody from a completely different culture, thus letting him or her expand as a person and gain knowledge about that culture. Even friendships of a more personal level can come from this game; I know of several relationships that have started by meeting in this game and I know of at least one of them that will go even farther then how far they have gotten now.
Another thing that kept my interest as I got older is that Pokémon is a game of strategy, much like chess, where in most cases you need to think a few moves ahead of your opponent. On reason I still play, now more than ever, is for the scholarships that can be won by doing well and placing high at big events. To this day there are people who have won over $10,000 worth of scholarship money over the course of multiple events, that’s enough for 1 full semester at St. Thomas University! Even though I haven’t won any scholarships, yet, playing this game I still play it for the other reasons above.
I would recommend this game to others of all ages for all the reasons stated above and then some. I recommend this game to children under 12 to reinforce their reading and math skills and to play for the scholarship that can be held until they head off to college. For those between the age of 13-College student, I recommend this game to them to improve their social skills that can help them later in life and for, again I say, scholarships. Lastly I recommend this game to families, including parents, for all the reasons above and because this is a great game that anyone of any age can enjoy.
Today, what started as a boy’s interest in insect collecting turned into a worldwide multimillion dollar phenomenon. The Pokémon trading card game aspect of Pokémon is fun for all ages and could bring many friendships that can last a life time to a player, along with several scholarships that can be used to pay for that outstanding college cost. Pokémon- “It’s not whether you win or lose, its how you play the game”
Pokegym- Please don’t post any thing of a flaming or bashing nature, this post if meant to reflect on the past to better the future. Lets have a good season, good luck to all.
