Pokémon TCG: Sword and Shield—Brilliant Stars

Pokemon's Poor Anime Health

The King Of Magikarps

After about the Orange League Season ended I stopped watching the show mainly because they never showed new episodes but now by just looking at the previews it just makes me not want to watch the show. The show IMO is just a waste of 22 minutes of live. So what's your opinion of the shows "health"?

From Hoenn onward it began to bite. Just the same repetitive cycle of the same episode starring a different pokemon every time. It's thoroughly ridiculous. If they would get some good writers like they had in season one, then I might watch it again, but not in it's current state.

It doesn't help that I'm a better writer than the show's actual writers.

I'm not joking. Read SS and then watch the animé and tell me which one's better—the one with an original plot that doesn't patronize its readers, or the one that recycles the exact same thing season after season because it sees its viewers as a bunch of brainless little kids that have a turnover rate of about a season?

Seriously, that is why the show sucks.

I read a couple chapters of SS once. It really is pretty good.

I agree that most of the Johto episodes where like that, but we at least had a few creative episodes. Like the one with the pilot who took them back to Olivine on the plane, that was an interesting one. You're right though, the best episodes were all first season. the one with the S.S. Anne, Island of the Giant Pokemon, the one with the fossil Pokemon, the one with the seaport and the ghosts, the one in Lavender Town, there were a ton of original plots, and a lot less 4Kids censored ones too (Ash died once for Pete's sake).

Punchy Pokemon is great!

SS Anne was insane! Now pokemon sems to be less violent, imo less violent = less action =/. The health of the series is poor. But look at the bright side, the TCG is much improved aswell as the video games, and that is what really counts! The show is for kiddies, and were not kiddies anymore, so we don't see its greatness anymore. I miss the original character voices!

I never did bother watching much after Johto I think. Ash is still the perenial loser and n00b and lucksac all in one package. Then he travels around often with ditzy female companions (except Misty, she was actually competent) and then either a "love-at-first-sight" companion in Brock (which requires the female or associate of the female to grab his ear) or a gender-confused artist named Tracy.

Brock's actions toward women go old pretty fast. He's still at it, eight years later

=/

Yeah, we know you are Marril and are better at everything than everybody, but they're getting paid for it, so they win this round.

The show is getting a little better, but not much. It's still far to bland. They really need to up the budget a notch or two. God knows they can afford it. Hire some better writers and animators. Watching Digimon Savers made me sad that Pokemon is as bad as it is. Why can't Pokemon be that awesome? =( Well, actually, I know why. It's because it doesn't need to be.

... No, seriously. SS really is better than the actual Pokémon animé. It doesn't hurt, though, that SS has a coherent, overarching plot, the "i r wnat 2 b teh pogeymanz masta" thing is a secondary plot used more as a plot device than the plot itself, the antagonists pose a real threat instead of being cheap and ineffectual comic relief, and the elite trainers actually use final-evolution, powerful Pokémon with plausible strategies.

These are all things the animé lacks.

It's pretty much dead. D:

I thought some of the new episodes were pretty good though, mostly with May. >_>; just 'cause I thought the Pokemon Contests were neat. ;o; And that one... durh. Season. That wasn't circling around Ash? Dx Gah, don't remember what it was called. >_>;

Butyeah.

They can do so much more with Pokemon and they don't. D: It kinda sucks.

I think we see it as dead since we've seen it for years. But the new generation of kids don't realize how repetitive it is.

  • Ash and his little friends meet some cool people with an interesting poke on his journey 2 B A Master
  • Team Rocket finds 'em
  • Team Rocket exibits some weird gaget
  • They seal the interesting poke
  • Pika gets grabed by da gaget
  • Ash use one of his new pokes to free him
  • Then pika finishes the gaget with a thunder bolt
  • The stolen pokes fall safely from the sky into ash and frinends hands
  • Ash is thanked and leaves to do the exact same thing the next day

Ok, first off, I'm speaking relative to the show's target audience (which most of the PokeGym community is not) IMO, the nadir of the show was Johto (would it ever end??). Episodes were recycled, rote, and so predictable that any viewer with a brain could predict the exact minute that TR would "blast off". Hoenn seemed marginally (only) better and I had just about decided that it was really the beginning of the end. (The last movie that was anything above terrible was Jirachi). But then, DP came along. Ash did much more than change his clothes. The show is actually marginally entertaining again. Is it great? No. But, there is at least some variety in the episode structure unequaled since season 1. Dawn is a neat character (she's no Misty, but MUCH better than other females we've seen since), and TR (gasp) doesn't always blast off (!) I miss Veronica Taylor, but I'll take that change if it means goodbye to 4Kids. The theme music is abysmal--hello, Pokemon is not about "changing the world" and if I could sit in on a PUI focus group and tell them how to improve the dub, well that would be a great start! Still, compared to much on Nick and CN, I'll put the latest incarnation of Pokemon in the "above average" category.

I think this was called the... "Rule of Seven" (?) in the comic books world. The theory is that, basically, after a while, you can assume a high enough turnover rate in your viewer/reader base, and thus start recycling entire plotlines because the audience at that point wouldn't have seen it before.

The Pokémon animé does this on a seasonal basis. The depressing part is that it's working.

Forgot last one.

Team rocket flies away(if they have a pokemon that they have stolen instead of flying away they fall near ash.

And how do the police in the animie not arrest ash because he is using his pġokemon to hurt people...lol

the only good thing about the anime is the movies by far.
I liked the old episodes better, I watched the Bulbasaurs Mysterious Garden one the other day. Now they make too many fillers.
It's kinds like Ash has to see all the pokemon for some reason
