Look at the other side. Why should some groups of people get many more chances to win points vs. other areas based solely upon location/travel ability. We are trying to find the best players....not just the most traveled!

Sometimes those people are one and the same.

With that being said, I wish that every Regional was on the same day. (I understand why they're not, but that would be my preference.)

i will point out my dislike of the 1 day regionals. Karl of PT&E who runs the So. Cal regional, for the last 2 years has asked me to help out with his events, I have done So Cal regionals, NV states,

Last year, first weekend, I went to So Cal to help out with staffing (I was the deck judge) And i went to play in Nor Cal, Losing to Scizor in the T8 (That still was an amazing game Chad!!!)

This year may be a tad different if Karl asks me to help out, which I will accept to do, but then that means no Regionals for Duke.

I like the idea of trying to limit regionals, but maybe implement a system, where you can only attend 1 regional. Have regionals over 2 weekends so that staff can play also. States have been that way for NV and CA. One week, then the other. Karl gives us time to go to CA, and he goves CA time to come to us.

I just thought id chime in on this.

(1) I play for fun. I am not smug in this. I say this to begin. Can we still play Pokemon and have a good time, knowing we're playing premier players in sanctioned events? Or, does there have to be a separation between "fun" games and "serious" games? I'm as serious as anyone else when I play, because I play to win, but when it stops being fun, I'm done. Quote me.

(2) I'm not happy about the reduction of uber-important Premier Events, especially the loss over the years of Nationals and World's invites and packages. Part of the fun is in the prize package.

(3) Regionals might not be as important if Nationals becomes the venue to prove one's mettle and gain extraordinary points. Perhaps the strategy will be to win many Battle Roads, and a few Cities and States, and avoid the brutality of Regionals.

Just my thoughts.

Some of the most fun I've had over the last 4 years is due to the POP program, but since I first started in 2004 where I was able to play in 7 events, I imagined OP growing more and more every year so that I would eventually be playing in a tournament every Saturday of the year. Looks like POP has a different idea, which I do understand their point of view, but I think people rather have the ranking system taken out and have 4 dates for Regionals and 10 for States rather than having to limit it to 1 and 2 respectively.

Idk nintendos always made good calls of producing the game. Its been growing every year since they took it back from WOTC. So whatever they do to progress the game you might think is a bad call but honestly its been crunchin numbers together to progress the game.

If your gonna complain about events being too far away to travel ta play in, name one TCG that you dont have to travel to play. If you play a professional sport your teams traveling almost everyweek. With worlds being so exclusive it kinda makes sense to travel to become the best.

If you cant travel, you cant pay the toll! Idc how good u are. Traveling=Worlds. You might think i'll get my invite at nationals when theres 600 other participants thinking the same thing. So dish out dat money to start travelin.

I wish they'd cut the amount of PreRelease dates instead. My local PreReleases are always on the last available day. The Mysterious Treasures Prerelease, was AFTER the set was released officially. It wasn't nice of them to mess things up for many people and reduce the tournaments that actually matter.

Nooooooo................

Keep the pre-Release tourneys, they are fun, bring in new players, and actually level the playing ground for newbies like me.

I think the States dates were changed to take away the opportunity for some players to have the opp to play in 4, and most players only have the opp to play in 2.

Regionals, have been actually turned into Regionals, and not Regionals plus travellers and Regionals plus travellers.

I give kudos to PUI for the decision on Regionals. It forces Regions to actually depend on players from their region, and not depend on travelling players to support their numbers.

It also will maximize the number of individuals who win. No longer will individuals have the opportunity to smack 2 Regionals. PUI is best served with the most number of different players winning prizes. I say that being the parent of a kid who won 2 Regionals last year.

The 2 States dates will actually spread the wealth as well. More different kids winning trophies and prizes is ALWAYS a good thing for the game as a whole.

Talk to you all soon!

I completly agree wit ya vince! If your gonna produce the game and make it more exclusive. Less states and regionals will make the game grow. It really makes you not wanna travel and just play in the states cloest to you. It kinda makes you wanna represent your state or region.

Can you imagine the number of people in regionals or states this year as well? Since theres not that many SC or RC people will travel to like the same one and not go far for another. So I think this will affect attendance being at least 40% better than last years!

Also prize support should be 100% better for SC & RC. The millions of BR, Cities, Prereleases, and More Battle Roads should make the game gain more in numbers and its gonna be so much more fun cuz of K value not hurting you so much. So the new seasons lineup looks beastly!

i disagree gino i think that the less events the more cut throat those events will be with people vieing for the same points and/or top cut status

Um, I can see some events being more competitive, and some events being less competitive.

People keep saying "cut throat" when really they mean competitive. OP is MEANT to be competitive. It is just not meant to give all of the prizes to one player.

Let's face it...if Chicago, Indiana and Missouri all hold their Regional on the same day, Chuck and Ness can't get to all 3 can they? I can see a scenario where players flee a certain region to another not wanting to run into a "top gun". It will happen.

Although we will see some travel, it will be much easier for a Missouri player to get a Missouri State Trophy, and not simply be slammed by all the IL and TN players that are coming our way. Other states have the same issues.

I can see "divide and conquer" being a strategy this year...with our area still shooting people to 7 different states to bring those ever valuable points home.

There may be more points invites, but remember, the goal is we "gotta catch 'em all!"

Talk to you soon!

Idk theres alot of ups and downs of having 2 states and 1 regional. I mean if your lets say in a place that isnt popular and you cant travel your gonna have to look forward to BR/Cities/Prereleases/ and league. Imo that progresses the game a little by gaining numbers. Becuz theres so many little things and stuff happening weekly people will start to notice.

POP is taking the approach of traveling. In ea. region of the US there should be 1/2 states in that region. So the traveling approach really isnt an issue. Catch a ride with friends, parents, yourself, or even a bus if you have to. I mean if your from upper california and the SC is at bottom CA you better travel.

I mean where all used to lots of events. POP has pretty much made the lots of events to be CCs,BRs,Leagues, and Pre-Releases. Although if I was from lets say NH and the SCs were at RI/MA id want one in NH. I can say if im from NE and my SC is on the 1st while NY is on the 1st. Only expect New Englander players to be at the NE SC and the NY players at the NY SC. This could make more or less attendance then eva b4.

From a player/parent perspective I like the idea of less travel being needed. Compressing the dates does that.

However I worry about it from a staffing perspective. My gut is that we will end up with fewer events overall (with good staffing) or nearly the same number of events (but with far less staff). Either way I sense a bit of trouble coming there.

Staffing will be an issue, no doubt.

I have already solicited HJs for the Regional I am anticipating, and want to present that as a part of my proposal to PUI.

Staff lists, this year, more than ANY other I feel will be crucial!

Vince

I see staffing being the main issue here too Vince. Many states use the same core set of Judges/PTOs. Some of those states may have issues even being set up. Regionals are in the same boat. You co-produced 2 reg's last yr Vince....which one you gonna do this year?? I have a feeling I know which one

That may turn out to be a good thing. Hopefully more people will step up and become better informed.

I agree with Vince with my head.

My heart is telling me another story.

I SO wanted to see whether or not Rockford could top 200 this year for Regionals. Now, we've got to compete with St Louis / Memphis and Eastern Indiana for people.

Do you think that 150+ is still possible for the larger Regionals from last year?

I see 150 being possible at any Regional that has a great local player base!

For Regionals...150 is the "new" 100!

Gotta hit it to sit on the porch!

Vince

Oh, and I don't think Memphis will get a Regional this year...the conclave is planning to move North again to a "different" part of the Region (heck, it is a "Regional" it should move!)

Vince

Staffing WILL be an issue, and thats where the mercenary international judges come into the picture ! lets start the bidding for Ives and his gang of merry buccaneers at a box of reeses cups, lol. I havent staffed a non-PUI, non-mexican premiere event well since... 2004 was it Vince? and I do still regret I was not allowed to rap :p

I usually put a bag of Reese cups in my FREE candy bowl at my Sevierville TN PRs. I always wondered when you might float in, caught up in the smell!
