So, you would say you're sure they wont give trips to worlds?

I still don't understand that move...
No trips to Worlds at Regionals = More trips to Worlds at Nationals

Just a thought.

Not everyone can "travel" to Nat's since it is always in Ohio. The date can be a problem also bc many family trips fall around the 4th of July and sometimes not all family members "want" to travel to pokemon tourneys on vacation! (Read as non playing family members LOL) Most every seroius Pokemon player is close enough to a Regioanl though! JMHO that the regional winners and runners-ups get trip and invites.

If you only play Pokemon and no other TCGs, board games, non-collectible cards games, etc, then I suppose going to Origins might not be for you. Nevertheless, the Pokemon US National Championships during 2005 put all other TCGs at Origins to shame! US Nationals AND the Professor Cup are second only to Pokemon Worlds, and NOT a very distant second, I might add!

Personally, I hope this is the LAST year Pokemon is at Origins for their Nationals Event.

Rumour has it that there will be a lot fewer games there this year (No Magic YGO, VS)

Anyway, with the group Pokemon is trying to attract - Origins is a ... ummm.. bad choice for the same reason that most parents of young kids do not like bringing them to gaming stores

"Scary Magic (style) players"

I would be a lot more pumped if Pokemon Nationals went to a different - Pokeonly location (like a mini Worlds), but less done up, and spent the $70 or so per badge on other cool items for the players.

Let's face it...most younger Pokemon players just play Pokemon.

PUI is supporting ONE game - it has no urge to get players to branch into other games.

WOTC - they have more than one game to expose people to...

Upper Deck - they have more than one game to expose people to...

Pokemon...one game, and at Origins their "corporate" table is crammed in the back area with the people selling T-shirts and knives, not at the front.

OK, enough of my rant....

Thanks!

I agree a lot with Keith (Lawman). In my eyes, Regionals is the third biggest event. Worlds-Nationals-Regionals-so on, and it doesn't make any sense for them not to give out trips to worlds at Regionals and yet give out trips to worlds at a smaller tournament, Gym Challenges. Sure, I'm all up for trips to be given out at Gym Challenges, but I feel Regionals should give them out too.

But personally, I am happy with just having any kind of trip on the line.

I can't afford to go to Nationals. It's a 10-hour trip one way, and speeding too I might add just to make it to the place. I do feel the place should be changed every year, the same with Worlds IMHO.

I don't know. I guess to sum up what i'm saying, I feel Regionals should have trips to worlds as I feel they are big enough to have them.

But then again, if we have to lose some trips so that international countries get more, I'm all for that.

I'm fine with International Countries getting more invites, but not at the expense of the U.S. I agree with some of what has been said here, and I posted a couple weeks back about Nationals always being in Ohio. You can't tell me it's fair if California only gets 3 invites to Worlds. Just because we "HAVE" Worlds here, doesn't mean you are automatically qualified by living here, don't forget that.

However, I will say that if Regionals give the Top 4 Nationals Packages, that would somewhat make up for the lack of Worlds Invites, especially for the West Coast. Still, I look at last year like this, whether it's a fair comparisson or not, I don't care: Since Nationals was AFTER GC's and Regionals, there were a bunch of passdowns, which happened to go to the Top 16. Nationals had 8 Rounds of Swiss and a cut to a Top 32. The GRINDER, kind of like California's Nationals, gave away 8 invites with a 5 round Swiss and a little bit more players than NATIONALS. Just think about that. /end rant\

Origins is so much more for me than just Pokemon. But like I said before, Pokemon-only gamers will find Origins to be a burden.

It's funny that you find some Magic players to be "scary." I heard the same from my Decipher LOTR buddies about the Pokemon adults -- players (they said) who love winning against little kids. To me, gamers come in all varieties, but we're all mostly geeks of some kind or another.

IYO, will the number of trips go down?
IMO there will be at least as many invites/trips, but the way those are distributed seems to be changing. The reason I don't think the number of trips/invites will decrease is because I don't see them wanting to decrease the size of the player base at Worlds, but that's only my opinion.

Remember folks, it is up the the LDs of their respective Int'l countries on how many invites they give out. Trust me, POP will not turn down the Int'l players if their LDs set up to the plate and bring a few more players. The US will not "help" the Int'l players GET more invites IF we lose some. LDs pay for their trips, POP pays for the US trips. Just some food for thought.

I'm confused - my info says Easter 2006 is Sunday, 16 April - so what exactly are you saying? The closest thing is your just-announced 18 April event...

Northern California, Saturday April 8th, Santa Clara, will post details on another thread after my cities this weekend
