Magmortar Lv.X
Such a great pokemon

Has a mad power to BURN when active

130HP is good

100dmg bench snipe attack is awesome but wait a turn is bad.

Still do good in a deck

Combos well with Delcatty.

Use it well.

Rates... 8.5/10.

Cya.

Magmortar itself right now is a great card and has lots of potential and players just dont see it. The fact that you can automatically burn a pokemon is pretty sweet and burning a pokemon would mean that you can cancel their pokemon power right there. I love the fact that you can use its attacks from its previous stage so you wouldnt have to wait so many turns to use its flame burster. The only downfall's that i see of this card is having the water weakness. Which means Empoleon and Feraligatr can easily take him down. His retreat cost is pretty high but you have switch or warp point to take care of that i suppose. His HP is pretty low IMO considering that its a stage 3 pokemon but i guess your opponent drawing one prize card, makes up it's bad side effect.

Modified- When Magmortar SW comes out, its going to be a powerful card to deal with. Having a body and a power on one card is simply amazing and being able to survive longer by removing 2 damage counters is pretty sick. Like i said above, the only problem with him is the water weakness 8/10

Limited- If you pull this card from the pack, play it and its one of the most powerful cards in the set. Next to electivire LV X of course. Only problem is you have to get really lucky to pull this card from the pack. 4/10

Unlimited- So many cards outspeed this deck its not even funny. Magmortar is too slow in unlimited format. 1/10

Magmotar Lv X has the potential to be a great card. Auto-Burn, decent HP, and Flame Buster, which does 100 to any of your opponent's Pokemon. Combined with Blaziken PK or Typlosion MT, ths can give you the feel of a BLEX deck, even if it's a bit more awkward. However, Magmotar Lv X is weighed down by both a nasty weakness to a common type (2x against Water) and a so-so Retreat Cost.

Modified - 7/10 (Weakness plus lack of a really great regular Magmotar weigh it down. Wait till Empoleon and Feraligatr take a rest before playing)
Limited - 7/10 (If you can pull this and Magmar + Magmotar [Magby also prefered), you're in good shape should you ever draw it)
Unlimited - L-0-L/10 (No reason to play it here at all)

Since I posted the first magmortar list, I think I'll defend my baby.

Magmortar LV x is a pretty nice card. As said by the previous reviewers, the stats are pretty nice. 130 is fairly nice. The Magmar and Magmortar line have good cost effective attacks. The pokepower is ridiculously good. Sniping for 100 is nice. But the attack cannot be lone energy-scrambled.

The water weakness is fine. That's how weakness worked for the longest time before DP. The weakness can be mitigated in a number of ways. Also, the high retreat cost balances the card out because of its other great stats. This too can be dealt with if you make a Magmortar deck correctly.

Magmortar Lv X
since he is a level x, we must also review his lower form to deem his playability (a lv x isnt worth playing if its lower form is bad IMO)
looking at magmortar, i like what i see. 80 for three and discarding two energy from your hand (you probably dont want to add in magby, it makes it complicated) is pretty good
the only thing i dont like about magmortar is the +30 weakness combined with 100 hp
that means he is a one shot for empoleon
other than that, magmortar is a solid card

lets look at the lv x now
a very nice power, we can start off with
not useful so much for the damage, but the fact that is also shut off your opponents power as well
the damage more adds as a bonus, and since it is a flip, not one to be relied on

his attack, however, is what catches my eye
100. to anyone. steelix and blaziken ex anyone?
sure, he cant use it next turn, but since you discard two energy, unless you drop a DRE, you couldnt use it again anyway
snipe, use magmortars attack (hence why the non lv x is crucial), then snipe again if you want next turn)

the weakness, despite what everyone thinks, isnt that bad
seriously, lets analyze
100 hp-30 (weakness)=70 from a water to ko him
130 hp/2 (weakness)=65, or 70 from a water to kill him
no difference at all
and whats more, the +30 can actually be worse
if you have 40 hp left, and a water type hits you for 10, you die (ive had that happen, its annoying)
if you have 40 left with double weakness, they need to deal 20 minimum to kill you
and take my word for it, there is a big difference between 10 and 20 damage
in short, weakness isnt that big a deal

Modified 7.8/10 weakness is the only reason this guy doesnt get an 8.5 (the highest i would give a stage one lv x)
Unlimited 1/10 do i even need to explain?
Limited 1/10 if you manage to pull magmortar, magmar, and the lv x, you run them
but seeing as how diffucult that is...

Its gut ja, gut bien.
Volcanic Ash GG.

Just a lot harder to get multiples out. 1 of these w/Typhlosion and lotsa Night Maintenance is neat-o. DRE compatible is really nice too and the power can be a bit useful. Best played w/ the new Magmortar that isn't even out yet but the current one is decent enough too.

Out of the 3 Lv. X's in MT, I personally thought this one is the best, though others might disagree. 100 Damage to any of your opponent's Pokemon is nice enough, and the 130 HP is pretty good for it. The Weakness, however, isn't the best in the world, so watch out for Water Pokemon. Though the retreat cost is high, just get Switch, or Warp Point out and you will be fine. Though you may not be able to use the attack twice in a row, you can still use the normal Magmortar's attack's with it.

Modified: 8/10, It would of been perfect, if it wasn't for the Weakness, waiting every other turn to use Flame Buster, and the fact that it's a Lv. X
Limited: 10/10 - If you get the whole line, Perfect!
Unlimited: 0/10 - Heh.

Magmortar Lvl X
Good card, but having the same problem as all other Lvl X pokemon, it takes an extra turn to get it in play. However the attack is great, 100 damage to one of your opponents Pokemon gives me a deja vu of Steelix EX. And even if you can use that attack of that Pokemon the next turn, the Magmortar below also has good attacks.
The water weakness is the old fashioned double amount, which hurts when you face a water deck.
The power is very good, without any additional requirements you can burn your opponent's active pokemon and if that is not enough it will get the burned Pokemon 3 damage counters i.s.o 2. It's almost a combined Flareon EX (DS) and Full Flame (LM). "both out of the modified format".

Modified (HP-DP1): 8/10

I have seen this card played already in league games.

Limited-w/o full line 0/10,with full line 8/10,with a full line+search 9.5/10

Magmortar's line is okay. In order to use the normal magmortar's 2nd attack without a drawback, you need to play magby. Not a big deal to get out with magmar with mentor, so not a big deal. Magby is not a great pokemon, with only a 50% chance of giving the opponet's active a burn condition. Magmar is a nice rush pokemon. 20 for 1 is a nice amound of damage and 50 for 3 on a basic is not that bad, even with the discard. 70 hp gives magmar a good chance of not getting koed that early in the game. The regular magmortor is a nice peice of work. Its first attack is just like fossil magmar's attack, which was used back in the day. 80 for 3 is amazing for a stage 1, but the force discard of 2 energy from your hand if you don't have the magby makes it so you need to get out magby or else you need to have a large number of cards in your hand often. Onto the Lv. X. It gives the normal magmortor a relatively decent hp boost (to 130 over 100), which is about average for a stage 2 (this being the 3rd time you "evolved" it). It does gain the X2 weakness to water, but since most water pokemon can do 70 pretty easy, this doesn't make a big difference. What I like most about this card is its power. Auto-burn is a nice ablity to have, espically uping it to 3 counters instead of 2 in-between turns. Its attack is a great attack, easily erasing something like a delcatty or an alakazam the opponet spent alot of effort on getting out.
Scores
Modified: 8/10-Its line is very stable and powerfull, and overall covers a bunch of different things (special conditions, sniping, heavy hitting for low amounts of damage, ect.).
Limited: 10/10-Not a great card to play (unless you get lucky enough to pull the entire line), but its a Lv. X, so it doesn't matter if you can play it or not. :)
Unlimited: 1/10-Too slow in this format to do anything.
